Description
(NorModeL) F. H. BROWN. Ghildrens Cribs.
No. 228,596. Patented June 8, 1880.
I. l d
l b'besses 4 40M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED HARVEY BROWN, OF DALLAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF OF HIS RIGHT TO CARRIE D. BROWN, OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS.
CHILDS CRIB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 228,596, dated June 8, 1880.
' Application filed March 1c, 1880.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED HARVEY BROWN, of Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Cribs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- 7 Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is an end view, and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts in all the figures.
My invention relates to suspended cribs or cradles for the use of children, and has for its object to construct a childs crib or cradle that may be easily operated, and in which means are provided for attracting the attention of the child occupying the crib while resting or preparing for sleep, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the drawings, Ais a suitably-constructed frame or support, in which the swinging crib B is suspended by the rods or wires 0, of which one is attached to each corner of the crib.
In the top of theframe, at one end, is journaled a rock-shaft, D, which is provided with two strap-iron hangers or stirrups, E E, connected at their lower ends with the forward suspension-wires O O.
The shaft D has a crank, F, which is connected by a pitman, G, with the operating lever or handle H, that is pivoted upon one of the standards of frame A.
One or more cords, I, are passed from each of the suspension-wiresO through screw-eyes J in the upper middle cross piece or brace of the supporting-frame, and have gaily painted (No model.)
Projecting downward from the bottom of the crib is a piece of whalebone or other suitable material, N, which plays upon the strings L L during the oscillations of the crib. This is operated by working the handle H, which is at a convcnient height from the floor, and it will be seen that the crib vibrates in the long arc of an ellipse, so that it is always in a horizontal position. During the vibrations or rocking the painted or gilded balls K will alternately play up and down in sight of the child, so as to engage its attention.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The combination, with the supporting-frame A, having screw-eyes J, and swinging crib B, suspended in said frame by rods 0 O, of the cords I, inserted through said eyes and provided each with one or more balls or weights, K, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have'hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRED HARVEY BROWN.
