UNITED "STATES PATENT OFFICE SHOE CONSTRUCTION BertinoDutra da Silva, New York, N. Y. Application April 2, 1941, Serial No. 386,532 1 Claim. (01, 3s 3e) This invention relates to new and useful im provements in shoe constructions and more particularly to a detachable heel for shoes.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a shoe construction in which the heel may be easily detached from the shoe and replaced by a new one with'but a minimum of effort on the part of the repairer.
Anotherimportant object of the invention is to provide a shoe construction which includes a readily detachable heel which can be replaced when it becomes'worn Without the necessity of employing a skilled shoe repairer.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a perspective bottom view of a shoe showing the improved heel construction inpartly applied position.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary side elevational view with the heel portion in section.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the heel and its plate.
Figure 4 is a cross sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view taken substantially on the line 55 of Figure 6.
Figure 6 is a bottom plan view showing the seat heel plate and heel plate in connected relation.
Figure '7 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 'I--I of Figure 6.
Figure 8 is a section taken substantially on the line 8--8 of Figure 6.
Figure 9 is a plan view of the heel attached plate.
Figure 10 is a cross section on the line Ill-ID of Figure 9.
Figure 11 is a section taken substantially on i the line II--II of Figure 9.
Figure 12 is a plan view of the seat heel attached plate.
Figure 13 is a section on the line I3l3 of Figure 12.
Figure 14 is a section on the line I l-44 of Figure 12.
Referring to the drawings wherein lik numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the structure represented in the drawings consists of four main parts, namely, the shoe proper 5, a detachable heel 6, a plate I carried by the heel 6 and a plate 8 carried by the seat heel 9 of the shoe 5.
The heel may be leather. rubber or any other material and has its forward edge portion stepped off as at ID to accommodate the shoe sole II. The plate I coincides with the configuration of the heel 6 and is secured upon the heel 6 by nails or the lik I2. It being preferable that the top of the heel have a basin therein upon the bottom of which the plate 1 is disposed and secured so that this plate Will not be visible from the side of the shoe. This is also true of the plate 8 which is secured to the seat heel 9 of the shaped opening I4 at its intermediate portion.
As shown in Figure 4, the heel 6 just below the slot IS in the plate 'I is formed with channels I5, while just below the rectangular-shaped opening I4 in the plate 1, a pocket It is formedin the heel B.
The seat heel plate 8 coincides with the-configuration of the plate I and has a pair of parallel disposed struck-out L-shaped members I! which ride in the slots I3 and grooves I5 and also a struck-out tongue I8 having an upwardly curved lip I9. This plate 8 also has a downwardly struck-out cleat 20. The plate 8 is secured to the seat heel by sewing or tacking.
As is suggested in Figure 1, by registering the slot I3 with the member I1 of the plate 8, the heel 6' can be slid into position with the cleat 2|] and the spring tongue, I8 in substantial abutting relation with the ends of the pocket I4.
The heel 6 is formed with a vertically disposed opening 22 through which an elongated nail or other implement can be disposed in orderto flex the tongue I8 and dislodge the same from the pocket I6 and opening I4, to the end that the heel 6 can be slid off of the plate 8 conveniently. While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is: In a shoe construction, a seat heel, a heel, a plate secured to the heel, said plate being formed with a pair of spaced guide slots extending inwardly from the inneredge thereof, said plate having a substantially rectangular opening, said heel being formed with recesses over which portions of the plate at the slots and opening overhang, a second plate attached to the seat heel, said second plate being provided with a pair of L-shaped members extending inwardly from the inner edge thereof and adapted to be received by certain of the recesses and the slots, said second plate being struck out to provide a spring tongue for disposition through the opening of the first plate and into the corresponding recess and a cleat depending from the second plate and adapted to engage under the first plate at the rear edge of the opening therein when the plates are in connected relation.
