'a drawing table of the above describedcharacter equipped with means whereby drawings on the paper may be readily displayed. 1
A further object of my invention is to provide a drawing table of the above described character which is simple in construction, durable in use, efficient in operation and economical in manufacture. v
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawings.
Referring to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure l.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of my novel form of drawing table.
Figure 4 is a side elevation of the upper portion of the drawing table and illustrating, partly in section, the means for displaying the drawings upon removal of the roll from beneath the top of the table.
Figure 5 is a rear elevation, partly in section, of Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 66 of Figure 4.
Figure 7 is a detail sectional view taken on the line '|-T of Figure 2. I
Figure 8 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 8-8 of Figure 7. 7
Figure 9 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 9-9 of Figure 4.
My novel form of drawing table, as illustrated in the drawings, 4 comprises an inclined top 6 formed with front and rear transversely extending slots I and 8 respectively and a pair of side walls 9 below said top and disposed between front and rear legs l8. Subjacent the top 6 and extending between the side walls 9, I provide a pair of vertical and spaced partitions H and I2 respectively and which partitions are dis- I posed in proximity to the front legs and interjacent the latter and the rear legs respectively. The opposed faces of the partitions II and 12 are provided with guides IS on which I are slidably mounted drawers l4 operable to open positions through openings formed in the side walls. The drawers are equipped with partitions and receptacles respectively whereby paint brushes and paints may be conveniently stored therein.
Subjacent the top 6 and extending between the front legs, I provide a tiltable drawer IS, the latter being pivoted at its lower front end to said front legs as at l6. Said drawer I5 is adapted to contain drawing materials or the like. Subjacent the top 6 and extending between the rear legs is a vertical partition H, the latter coacting with the partition l2 to define a rear compartment l8 disposed under said top while the partition l2 coacts with the partition H to define a front compartment l9 subjacent said top. Between the rear ends of the drawers M, the under face of the top has fixed thereto an abutment 28 to limit the inward movement of the drawers when being operated to closed position, thus enabling the front faces of the drawers to be readily positioned in flush relation with the front faces of the side walls 9.
Secured tothe side walls 9 within the rear compartment l8 are a pair of oppositely disposed bars 2| formed with aligned bayonet slots 22 having inner ends 23 constituting bearings in which are detachably journaled trunnions 24 of a roller 25 on which is wound a supply of drawing paper 26, the latter being trained through the slots 1 and 8 and connected to a roller 21 subjacent the drawers I4 to dispose a portion of said paper in appressed relation on the upper face of the top 6. The roller 21 is provided with a pair of trunnions 28 and 29 with the trunnion 28 journaled in a bearing 28 formedin one of the side walls 9. e
The trunnion 29 extends through a slot 30 formed in the other side wall 9 and is fashioned with a squared end 3| extending an appreciable distance beyond the outer face of the respective side wall and has connected thereto a crank 32 by which the roller 21 may be rotated to wind the drawing paper thereon; Secured to the outer face of'the last mentioned side wall are a pair of brackets 33, onedisposed on each side of the trunnion 29 and through which slidably extends a latch for supporting the trumiion 29. Obviously, by moving the latch from under the trunnion 29, the latter may be lowered through the slot 30 and the trunnion 28 disengaged from its bearing 28', thereby enabling the roller 21 and the paper thereon to be removed from under the top 6 for a purpose hereinafter set forth.
. trations.
Forwardly of the rear slot 8; the top is provided with a transverse bar 34 for normally clamping the paper to said top, the ends of the bar 34 having extending therethrough the upper ends of bolts 35 with the heads disposed over the upper face of the bar. The bolts extend downwardly through openings formed in the top 6 and have sleeved thereon coil springs 36, the upper ends of whichengage the under face of the top iwhile the lower ends engage washers 31 secured on the lower ends ofthe bolts by means of nuts 38. The springs coact" with the roller whereby the various illustratlonsmay be successively displayed. By providing the roller '21 with a crankand rotating said roller 21 the illustrations may be successively displayed in the opposite order.
In instances where it is not desired to'wind the paper 26 "about the roller 21 that portion of the paper disposed on the top and prejacent the bar 21 may be severed from the remaining paper through the medium of the. bar 34, the latter constituting a cutter,
bolts to normally-maintain the bar 34 in clamped I relation with the paper. 7
One end of the bar 34 has hingedtheretoia finger piece 39 slidably disposed over a member,
Ml carried by said top, whereby'upon downward pressure being applied to the finger piec'e39 thebar 34 will be raised with respect to the. paper to permit the paper to be moved over the top by the roller 21. r
Secured" to the top'nfi, postjacent the slot 8, is
apair of upwardly extending'standardsjl provided with a cross .bar '42. subjacentftheir-upper ends for mainta'ining said'standardsin spatiality Adjacent their upper and lower ends, the standards are provided with the upper and lower'horizontal slots 53 and ,44 respectively for receiving therein trunnions of the roller 21 and an auxiliary roller 45 as hereinafter more fullyset forth. The standards are formed with vertical, bores 46 Without further elaboration, the foregoing will so fully explain the invention that others may, "by applying current knowledge, readily adapt the isame for use under various conditions of service.
Moreover, it is not indispensable that all the features of the invention be used conjointly since theymay' be employed advantageously in various combinations and sub-combinations.
It'is obvious that the invention is not confined to the ;herein described use'therefor as it may be utilized for anypurposeto which it is adaptable: It is therefore to be understood that the invention, is not limited to the specific constructiornas illustrated and described as the sameis only, illustrative of-the principles of operation,
which are capable of' extended application in transversing the slots 43 and; 44 whilethe lower 7 ends of.:said standards, superjacent the lower slots 44; are' fashion'edwithviinverted ell-shaped recesses communicating ;with the bores'4B.
Demountable upper and lower pins 48 and 49 respectively are inserted. inthe bores; '46 :and coact with the-end walls defining the slots 43 and 44 to maintain thetrunnio'ns of the rollers rotatablyand detachably .mountedin the slots 43 various forms, andthat the invention compreandsall-constructionwithin the scope of the pe laims .1 Y
