Description

J. C. COVERT. Hitohing-Strap.
No. 228,322. Patented June 1, 1880.
' ATTORNEYS n which is intended to pass around the neck of iUNiTED STATES PATENT OEEicEa JAMES C. OOVER'I, OF TROY, NEW YORK.
l-il'roi-lInc-STRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,322, dated June 1, 1880, Application led July 25, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JAMEs G. OovERT, of rlroy, in the county of Rensselaer, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Hitching-Straps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a halter for l animals, the peculiarities of which will be herel inafter more particularly set forth.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its 'construction and operation.
In the accompanying' drawings, making part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective; Fig. 2, a section, and Fig. 3 a detached portion of the fastening'.
In the figures, A represents a leather strap,
the animal to be held. To one end of this strap is secured, by rivets or in any other suitable manner, a snap-hook, B.
D represents the main or hitching portion ofthe strap.
O represents a metallic plate7 which is provided along its body with rivet-holes and at one end with a loop or ring.
The inner ends of the straps A and D are overlapped, and then, the plate C being placed upon them, the three are secured rmly together by rivets. Ihe looped end of plate O is bent outward, so that it stands away from the leather, in order that the snap-hook may end of plate O, The strap D is then passed through the bridle-bit, and then made fast to the hitching-post.
I do not claim, broadly, a hitchingstrap provided with a snap-hook and a ring or other device for said hook to engage with, as I am aware that such is not new.
I am aware that a bitching-strap and halter provided with an adjustable slide having an eye for the reception of a snap-hook on the end of the fastening-strap have heretofore been employed, and I therefore lay no claim to such invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture, a hitchinghalter havingsecured to it a snap-hook, and composed of two pieces of leather spliced to gether by means of a metal plate, said plate being provided with rivet-holes in its body and an outwardly-turned looped end, as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 7th day of July, 1878.
