Application March 7, 1941, Serial No. 382,257
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a closure for a hand opening of a box oiiice employed in the sale of tickets for amusement establishments or for a cashier in a store orvbank, etc.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be easily installed and will provide a neat and attractive appearance as well as reinforcing the glass of the box ofce about the hand opening and will provide a complete closure for the hand opening and one which cannot be opened from the outside of the box ofce.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the inventon consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation illustrating the application of a closure to a box oiflce window and constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation illustrating the device in an applied position.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary rear elevation illustrating the closure in hand-opening closing position but free to be moved into an open position either from the inside or outside of the oiice.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view illustrating the present invention in applied position with the door thereof in a closed position.
Figure 5 isa view similar to Figure 4 showing the door in an open position.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 5 indicates a fragmentary portion of a box oice, 6 the window thereof having the usual hand opening for the passing into the box oice monies for the purchase of tickets or the payment of bills, etc. Further the box office includes the usual shelf I arranged at the lower edge of the hand opening. This is a common construction and is shown to be illustrative of how the present invention is easily adaptable thereto.
A metallic frame 8 is shaped to conform to the contour or shape of the hand opening of the box oice with the walls of the opening contacting the outer edges of the frame. A face plate 9 is secured onto the frame 8 and projects beyond opposite edges thereof and overlies a portion of the glass of the box oice in the vicinity of the hand opening and also provides a stop for a door I0 hinged on the frame, as shown at Il. The
shape of the door is in accordance with the shape of the frame 8 to form a complete closure therefor and is provided upon its inner face with a hand piece I2 to permit a person to readily swing theA door either intoan open or closed position.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the door swings upwardly to assume an open position and downwardly to assume a closed po-V sition. In either of these positions the door will be self-sustaining through the use of springs I3 secured to the door upon the inner face thereof, as shown at I4, and to links I5 pivoted' on the frame 8. The springs I3 are of the coil type and theY door is provided with grooves IB to partly receive the springs when the door is in closed position. 'Ihe frame 8 is also provided with grooves to receive the links I5 when the door is in closed position.
It is preferable that the inner face of the face plate 9 be equipped with a Soft facing material I 'I to contact the glass 6.
A plurality of buttons I8 are pivoted on the inner face of the frame and may be positioned to overlie the glass 6 and coact with the face plate 9 in securing the frame to the glass 6 of the box ofce. I
At opposite edges of the door the latter is provided with offsets I9, the frame being cut away to accommodate the offsets when the door is in a closed position. yA pair of the buttons I8 are pivoted on the frame where the latter is reduced in width to accommodate the offsets I9 of the door so that said latter-named buttons may be positioned to overlie the offsets of the door to secure the door in a closed position and still overlie the glass. By this arrangement the latter-named buttons may be positioned to free the door by being moved out of the path of the offsets IS of the door and still overlie the glass assisting the other buttons in securing the frame on the glass.
At any time when it is desired to remove the device from the box office, it is only necessary to turn the buttons I8 into a position of completely overlying the frame and the latter then may be moved out of the hand opening in the Y a box oilice may be manufactured at a lowcost and will provide an extremely neat and finished appearance to the hand opening of the box oce besides providing a complete closure therefor Which cannot be opened from the outside of the box oce When desired.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim is:
In a device of the character described, a
frame, a face plate secured on said frame and projecting beyond opposite edges thereof, turn 15 buttons pivoted on said frame and coactive with the fact plate in securing the frame in a hand opening of a box office, a door hinged on said frame for opening and closing the latter and having oiset portions, said frame being recessed to receive the offset portions of the door when the latter is in closed position, said turn buttonsv being located on the frame adjacent the recesses and adapted to be turned to a position for engaging the offset portions of the door for holding the door in closed position and said buttons holding the frame in position when in door holding position and when in door releasing position.
