Description

IINTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEONIDAS ADAMS, 0F BIGKNELL, INDIANA.v
VEHICLE-AXLE LUBRICATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,242, dated June 1, 1880,
Application led February 26, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatLLEoNIDAs ADAMS, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Bicknell, in the county of Knox and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Lubricators for Axles and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to that class of lubricators which are made use of to supply oil to thimble-skeins or the conical metallic sheath which envelops the axle of avehicle; and the nature thereof consists in certain improvements in the details ofthe construction of the same, hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a longitudinal vertical section of a thimbleskein for axles having my improvements applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section taken through the center of the oilcup. Fig. 3 represents the jointed rod for forcing the oil.
The thimble-skein A is tted to the axle by 3o means of a bolt passing through a hole.
D represents a longitudinal duct or passage, having openings a, aI communicating with the exterior surface of the thimble-skein.
B is a rod with joint so as to not come in Contact With the hound in drawing same, and of such size as to it neatly within the said duct or passage, by means of which the oil is forced through the same and out upon the surface of the thimble or axle skein through the openings a a. y
C is the oil-cup, which communicates with the said duct, and is provided with a screwplug, E.
I am aware that rods have heretofore been used for forcing the oil through passages ont upon the surface of the thimble-skein.
Having th us described my invention, Ielailn 'and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the thimble-skein A, having a longitudinal duct or passage, D, and openings a a, the jointed rod B, the oil-cup C, and screw-plug E, as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I afx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEONIDAS ADAMS.
