My invention relates to a portable booth and I declare the following to be a full, clear, concise and exact description thereof suiiicient to enable anyone skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a portable booth within which work can be carried on without interfering with other operations. It will be found useful especially in factories to allow painters to paint or spray the walls, ceiling or other parts of the interior of the factory while the employees of the factory are engaged in other gainful operations.
Furthermore, the booth has a knock down frame that is adjustable which can be altered quickly and easily to allow for clearing obstructions or fixtures of the factory or other building in which the booth has been set up.
Moreover, the booth is provided with an air suction device, whereby the air within the booth including particles of dirt, dust or paint fumes or mist will be sucked therein and discharge only pure air to the outside of the booth preferably towards the ceiling of the building. The suction device has a screen or filter to collect the particles of dust, dirt or paint or paint fumes within the booth and thereby expel only pure air from said booth. The expelling of pure air from the booth will cause an inflow of air through the openings and over the top of the side walls of the booth, whereby to prevent any dirt, paint fumes or other foreign matter from collecting on any objects outside of the booth.
The floor of the booth is made adjustable for length or width to accommodate the same for different objects to be worked upon.
The booth is also equipped with a platform which catches any dropping of paint, dirt or tools that may fall from the hands of the painter.

Referring more particularly to the drawings the device embodies a frame work which is held together by bolts, whereby it can be easily and quickly taken apart and again set up in any building or any location. The frame comprises four upright corner posts I, I, I, I which serve both as standards for the frame and to aid in supporting the platform or flooring 2 in elevated position above the floor of the building. Side rails 3 are fastened by plates 4 to the upper por tion of posts I.
An auxiliary post 5 is bolted at 8 to each of the posts I. A cross bar I is mounted on the upper ends of the pair of auxiliary posts 5, 5 and secured by bolts 8 to posts I. A platform III consisting of narrow planks or boards II is supported on cross bars I, I2 and attached by. screw 9.
Intermediate of cross bars I is a cross bar I2 and another at the end attached by hanger plates I4 to side bars it which are in turn bolted at I6 to post I.
Bracing bars 2t, 2!] used in pairs of each end of the frame are fastened to cross bar I at their upper ends by plates ZI and at their lower ends to post i and contiguous auxiliary posts 5 by a plate 22. Plate 22 projects down between said post I and the contiguous auxiliary post 5. A bolt 23 projects through all three to hold the same in place.
Bracing rails 2 are bolted to side rails 3 and side bars 55 to strengthen the same.
The means for extending platform 2 contemplates short auxiliary boards 25 that are slidably mounted on every other board I! and adjacent the respective ends thereof. To this end each alternate board I i has its opposite sides reduced at 3| to form a groove 32 between itself and the next board I I.
U shaped braces 35 partially surround board II and the auxiliary or extension board 25 mounted to slide thereon. Each of said U-shaped braces 35 is attached to auxiliary boards 25 by screws 35. Each of said U-shaped braces moves with said auxiliary board 25. A u-shaped guide member is used, in each instance, to aid in limiting the sliding motion of each auxiliary board 25 axially along its corresponding board II. Furthermore, each of the U-shaped guide members 45 is held to the contiguous board II by screws 4|, whereby it does not move with said auxiliary board 25.
The means for enclosing the booth embodies curtains 55 supported above the platform 2. Moreover the means for supporting the curtains contemplates a plurality of sleeve members 5i that are attached at convenient locations to side rails 3 by means of U-shaped hooks 52. The free ends of hooks 52 are bent at right angles at 53, whereby to engage in a removable manner the far side of side rails 3, whereas the middle portions of each of the said hooks 52 is welded'or otherwise fastened to sleeve 5!.
A vertically adjustable rod 55 is slidably mounted in each of the sleeves 5|. It is held in vertical adjusted position by a winged set bolt 55 that is mounted in a threaded aperture in sleeve 5|. The inner end of bolt 55 is adapted to engage rod 55. As a further means for holding rod 55 in adjusted vertical position, auxiliary sleeve 58 is slidingly mounted on rod 55 above sleeve 5! and held at any given vertical position therealong by a winged set bolt 65 mounted in a threaded. aperture in sleeve 58. The inner end of Winged bolt 60 is adapted to engage rod 55. Auxiliary sleeve 58 will be found useful particularly when lowering rods 55 to limit the downward movement thereof. I Rings or eyes 61, 61 are formed on opposite sides of each of said sleeves 58. Hooks 58 attached to curtain rods 55 engage said eyes 61, whereby to hold the curtains 55 in folded back or gathered in position as illustrated in Fig. 2.
T joints I5 are attached in a rigid manner to the top of each of the adjustable rods 55. The upper portion II forms a sleeve for the sliding of adjustable tube I2 which is held in given position by a winged set bolt I3 mounted in a threaded aperture I4 formed in portion II. The inner end of bolt I3 is adapted to engage tube I2, whereby to hold it in given position.
Removable short rods I5 are mounted at either end in contiguous adjustable tubes I2, I2, where- Each of the curtains 55 is provided with slide 7 fasteners or other closing means I5, whereby they can be connected to each other to form a continuous wall if desired. Curtains 55 will allow for the clearing of steam pipes 55 or other Obstructions in the building. Said curtains 55 can be drawn or gathered around the adjacent rod 55 by cords 55 having hooks 65 that engage eyes 5! on sleeves 58 as above mentioned. Said rings I?! will hold the curtains 55 to rods I5.
The means for supporting curtains 55, 55 on the end of the booth contemplates sleeves 5i, 5! carrying vertical adjustable rods 55 having T shaped joints I5, as above described. Rods 52 are carried in the horizontal hollow parts IIi of T joints I5. To this end set bolts I3 are mounted in threaded apertures in part II, whereby the inner ends of said bolts I3 will engage said rods 82. The outer end of rods 82 support vertically disposed sleeves 85. Vertically adjustable rods 81 are carried in sleeves 85 and held therein by set bolts 88.
The upper free ends of rods 81 are provided with open recesses 89 for the resting of a removable horizontally disposed curtain rod 95.
Furthermore, each of the end curtains 55 has a split at 5I from the bottom upward located adjacent its end which can be closed by a slide fastener I8. The several curtains 55 will allow for the projection of different obstructions or fixtures annexed to the factory building such as pipes 85. Moreover, curtains 55 will vary in width, if desired, whereby to adapt the curtains to the different obstructions of the building that would otherwise interfere.
The means for creating a suction of air, whereby to collect the fumes, dust, dirt, paint or paint mist in the booth and expel only pure air to the exterior embodies a fan 53 mounted to rotate with the power shaft 54 of an electric motor 55 connected by wires 95, 55 to socket 51 secured to some part of the frame at flooring 2. Socket 57 can be connected by an electric circuit to any electric source of supply. Motor 55 is mounted in a hollow cylindrical casing 58 and is held in suspension therein by brackets 55, 55 attached at one end to casing 55 and at the other to the casing I55 of motor 55.
Cylindrical casing 58 projects down through a suitable aperture 7 in platform 2. Angle iron brackets I5I are welded to casing 58 at one end and at the other are fastened by screws I52 to the boards I I of platform 2.
The lower end of cylindrical casing 58 projects down into a rectangular air conduit I53. Conduit I 53 has its upper lateral edges bent at right angles into horizontal position to form flanges I54, I54 which rest against the lower surface of platform 2. It is held in given relation to platform 2 by a metal strap I55 secured at one end to one of the cross bars I and at the other to intermediate bar I2. A screen I55 is disposed on the top of conduit I53, whereby to collect the fumes, dust, dirt, paint or paint mists. It is held by wire I58.
Conduit I55 is made in sections that are telescoped together to conform to the width of platform 2. Elbows I51, I51 have a sliding fit with the respective ends of conduit I53, whereby to direct the outgoing pur air towards the ceiling of the room. I
The suction fan 53 will reduce the air pressur within the booth and thereby cause a flow of air through the openings and over the top of the walls of the booth which has no covering. This inward flow of air will not allow the escape of dirt, paint mist or other foreign matter from the booth, which would otherwise have a harmful result on the fixturesor other parts of the building or merchandise stored therein.
Brackets I I I are attached to the lower ends of each of the posts I and its contiguous auxiliary posts 5. Each of said brackets I I I carries a shaft I I2 forming a bearing for rollers II3 mounted to turn freely on said shaft I I2.
The operation of the booth is effected by setting up the frame work within the building or other desirable location in which it is to be used in painting or spraying certain portions thereof. In setting up the frame work the cross bars I, I are mounted on auxiliary posts 5, 5 and then bolted at 5 to posts I.
The platform consisting of boards II and auxiliary or extension boards 25 is placed across cross bars I, I, intermediate cross bar I2 and end cross bar I2.
Sleeve members will be mounted on side rails 3 and the rods 55 adjusted as to the proper height to reach near the ceiling of the building or rafters II8. Curtains 5B of the proper width to avoid obstructions 80 of building will be hung on rods I5 by rings 11. The end curtain 50 is hung to rod 90 by said rings TI. The slide fasteners I8 will be used to close the several curtains 50 about the obstruction such as pipes 80 of the building.
Suction fan 93 will be started, whereby to draw all the fumes, dust, dirt, paint or paint mist into conduit I 03 where they will collect on screen I06. The pure air only will be allowed to escape from the interior of the booth, whereby to prevent any of the paint or paint mist or other foreign substance from injuring other parts of the building, machinery or merchandise outside of the booth. There being no top to the booth the inrushing air to replace that which is expelled will aid also in preventing the aforesaid paint or paint mists or other foreign matter from reaching the exterior of the booth.
The framework can be pushed into place on its rollers I I3 mounted to turn on shafts II2 carried in metal brackets III fastened to the lower end of each of the posts I and its contiguous auxiliary post 5.
A canvas sheet II9 will be spread on the floor of platform 2 to prevent any paint or foreign matter from escaping downward on the floor of the building. There will be an aperture H6 formed in the canvas sheet H5 to encircle the conduit I03.
Fig. 1 shows the portable booth in connection with the rafters I I8 of the building and. other parts including the window frame I20 and stationary seat I2I attached to the building. It also shows the booth moved over an obstacle such as container I22.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:
1. In a portable booth, uprights for supporting a platform and side bars, sleeve members attached to said side bars, adjustable rods mounted in said sleeves, horizontally disposed rods carried by said last named rods, curtains carried on said horizontal bars, a hollow casing mounted in said booth and a fan mounted in said hollow casing to cause an outflow of air from the booth to said hollow casing, whereby it will prevent fumes and particles of dust from progressing outward from said booth.
2. In a portable booth, uprights having wheels attached thereto, a platform mounted on said uprights, extending members movably mounted on said platform, bars secured to said uprights, adjustable sleeves carried by said bars, rods mounted in said sleeves, other rods carried by said last named rods to support curtains and allow for obstructions thereto, an air conduit mounted in said booth and a fan mounted in said conduit to cause an outflow of air from the booth through the said conduit, whereby to prevent fumes and particles of dust from progressing outward from said booth.
3. In a portable booth, a frame, wheels mount ed to said frame, a platform carried by said frame, side bars mounted in said frame above said platform, sleeves mounted to said side bars, rods carried by said sleeves, sleeves carried by said last named rods and other rods mounted in said last named sleeves for supporting curtains and to allow for obstructions thereto, an air conduit mounted in said conduit and a fan mounted in said conduit to cause an outflow of air from said booth through said conduit, whereby to prevent fumes and particles of dust from progressing outward from said booth.
4. In a portable booth, a frame, an extensible platform, carried by said frame sides formed on said platform, members mounted to said sides, adjustable rods mounted in said members, couplings carried by said rods, sleeves carried in said couplings, adjustable rods mounted in said last named sleeves, whereby to support curtains, openings in said curtains to allow for the .projection of obstructions, zipper fasteners for closing said curtains and a conduit having a fan therein mounted in said booth to cause an outflow of air from the booth through the said conduit, whereby it will prevent fumes and particles of dust from progressing outward from said booth.
5. In a portable booth, a frame mounted on wheels, an elevated floor comprising boards, other boards mounted to slide on said first named boards for extending the length of said floor, sleeves mounted on said frame, rods mounted to slide in said sleeves, other rods mounted on said first named rods, curtains carried by said last named rods, whereby to form a enclosure for said conduit, a hollow cylindrical conduit mounted in said booth, a conduit mounted in said booth, a fan mounted in said conduit, whereby to collect dust, dirt, paint and paint mist carried in the air within said conduit.
