Description

March Z4, ESM-2 V. vra-iREu-WIAFT l A y ADVERTISING STRAP HANGER Filed July 23,' 1940 ATTORNEY.
Patented Mar. 24, 1942 UNITED STATES TENT @ENCE Application July 23, 1940, Serial No. 347,018 In Germany August 7, 1939 3 Claims.
The present invention relates to a grip device for use in tram-cars, motor busses, subways and the like, the gripping yoke part of which, according to the invention, is connected to an advertising device comprising translucent and replaceable advertising disks or ribbons and whose sources of light are switched on by means of the gripping yoke. Pulling on the said gripping yoke will operate the switch, and the pull having stopped, the sources of light are switched off by fitted-in springs.
Where the feed to the said illuminated advertising device of the power current at disposal within the Vehicle, is to be avoided, a replaceable dry cell battery or storage battery may be fitted within the advertising device.
Instead of fixed advertising disks, translucent advertising ribbons or lms may be arranged to travel within the said device.
In the drawing, a preferred embodiment of the invention is represented by way of example,
Fig. 1 showing a perspective view of the gripping support according to the invention;
Fig. 2 i's a iront View of the same, the front advertising `plate being removed for the sake of clarity;
Fig. 3 is a side View of a section of the gripping support, and
Fig, 4 shows the connection of the. upper portion, which serves advertising purposes, and the handle or support proper comprising a switch fitted in between the two portions.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the advertising strap hanger of the invention comprises an upper metal frame generally indicated at I and a handle or grip I I. Grip I I is mounted to reciprocate a certain distance in the vertical direction, as will be explained hereinafter. Upper frame I0 is provided with two advertising plates I2 and I3 which are .preferably transparent and bear advertising inscriptions or pictures. A plurality of light sources or incandescent lamps I4 are arranged in the interior of frame I0. Electric storage battery I5 is supported by horizontal strip I6. `Strip IB is provided with a flange I1 passed through a slot in frame I0. By means of flange Il strip IB may be pulled out to exchange storage battery I5.
One pole of electric battery I5 is connected by means of cable I8 with metal frame II) and, hence, is in electric :contact with incandescent lamps I4. The other pole of battery I5 is connected by cable with a single pole switch shown in Fig. 4. Cable 20 connects dry battery I5 with the upper contact 2| of the switch. Stationary contact 22 is connected with cable 23 which in turn connects bulbs I4 in series and with the metal frame I0 of the advertising device.
Upper frame I0 has a loop 25 by means of which it may be supported on the ceiling, for instance, of a railroad car. Spring 2B is interposed between U-shaped Iportion 21 on grip II and a similar U-shaped "portion 28 of frame I0. When grip II is pulled down, spring 8 is compressed and contacts 2| and 22 touch each other, thus closing the electric circuit, whereupon bulbs I4 flash up and the advertising matter on plate I2 and I3 is illuminated. When grip II is released, contacts ZI and 22 are separated again due to the action of spring 2E and the electric circuit is interrupted.
It is, of course, feasible to connect electric bulbs I4 with a main current source instead of a dry battery.
What I claim is:
1. An advertising strap hanger comprising a frame having an upper stationary section and a lower section formed with a loop and slidably mounted in said upper frame section, a spring interposed between said upper and said lower frame section for normally spacing them apart, translucent advertising plates removably secured to the surfaces of said upper frame section, a plurality of electric light bulbs in said upper frame section, an electric circuit including a current source, said bulbs and a switch including a stationary contact in said upper frame section and a movable contact in sai-d lower frame section, whereby when said lower frame section is pulled downwards said switch is closed and said light bulbs are energized.
2. An advertising strap hanger comprising a frame having an upper stationary section and a lower section :formed with a loop and slidably mounted in said upper frame section, a spring interposed between said upper and said lower frame section for normally spacing them apart, translucent advertising plates removably secured to the surfaces of said upper frame section, a plurality of electric light bulbs in said upper frame section, a dry battery in said upper frame section, an electric circuit including said Idry battery, said bulbs and a switch having a stationary contact in said upper frame section and a movable contact in said lower frame section, whereby a downward pull of said lower frame section closes said switch and energizes said light bulbs.
3. An advertising strap hanger comprising a frame having an upper stationary section and a lower section formed with a grip, said upper upper frame section, an electric circuit including said dry battery, said light bulbs and a switch Icomprising a stationary contact on the U-shaped end portion of said upper frame section and a movable contact on the U-shaped end portion of said lower frame section, whereby when a pull is exerted on said grip said contacts are closed to energize said light bulbs.
