Description

March 17, 1942. w. WHEELER 2,276,678
COMBINATION TOP AND MEDICINE CONTAINER FOR MEDICINE GLASSES Filed July 5, 1940 I I W ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 17, 1942 COMBINATION TOP AND MEDICINE CON- TAINER FOR MEDICINE GLASSES Louis W. Wheeler, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as-
signor to Ingram & Bell, Limited, Toronto, County of York, Province of Ontario, Canada, a company of Canada Application July 5, 1940, Serial No. 343,946
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a new article of manufacture, namely, a combination' top and medicine container for medicine glasses.
In institutions such as hospitals, the medicine is given at the same time a dry medicine in the form of pills, etc.
In order to ensure that each patient will receive his or her proper medicine, it is necessary to have some means of indicating on the container the name of the patient. Heretofore, so far as I am aware, no suitable or convenient means has been provided.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a combination top and medicine container for medicine glasses which will keep dust or other foreign matter out of the liquid medicine prior to and during its delivery to the patient and which will also provide a receptacle or container for any dry medicine or ointment for such patient and, further, which will also provide a means for designating the patient who is to receive the same.
For an understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following specification and the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my combination top and medicine container;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of my combination top showing' it mounted on the top of a medicine glass; and
Figure 3 is a vertical cross-section.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts throughout the specification and drawing.
The reference number Ill indicates the usual medicine glass which has marked on the sides thereof graduations which indicate quantities in the terms usually employed in prescribing the amount of each dose of medicine. The top which is the feature of the present invention consists of a dish-shaped circular body I I, slightly smaller in diameter than the top portion of the medicine glass. The rim of the body'is rolledor turned outwardly to form an external flange I! which provides a means for supporting the body on the top of the medicine glass It]. Adjacent the top edge of the body II is formed an interior'flange l3 which is adapted to support a disposable cover l4. When the cover It is in place, a space is formed between the bottom l5 of the body and the cover H which serves as a receptacle for dry medicine or ointment. The disposable cover is made of cardboard and is provided with a tab l6 so that the cover can be easily removed. The
cover I4 is also provided with a space in which may be written the name and room number of the patient.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A combined cover and medicine container for a medicine glass consisting of a hollow body adapted to fit into the upper part of a medicine glass, the upper rim of the walls of said cover extending outwardly and downwardly to form a groove adapted to receive the upper rim of the medicine glass, and an interior annular flange extending from the upper part of the wall of the cover, and a disposable top seated on said annular flange and retained thereon by frictional en-- gagement with the walls of said cover.
