METHOD OF PREPARING ABSQRBENT COTTON.

' two quarts of certain Compound culled AlrsorbentUotton, tobe u ed in dressing wounds zpid for all surgieul puryumes, of which the following is a specilitflition.
:lhis invention consists in a. composition l'o'tmed usfollows, to wit:
To prepare the cotton, take four pounds clean row (5()tt0ll,l)1'0tll and card it. Then dissolve two pounds otchlorlde of lime in thirtyboiling water, (in at vessel of wood or stone.) After dissolving well putthe cotton in the solution and stir it for twenty minutes, so as to haveit. well saturated. Then tulte out. the cotton and rinse it thoroughly in hot \vuter, changing the \voter three times. Then dissolve two pounds of'anl-sodu. in tort-5;
quarts of hot water. Put the cotton in the solution, stir it. well, let it stand ten minutes, then rinse thoroughly in hot water, changing the water four times; then dry it and card it, and it is ready for use.
