My invention relates to garments, and has among its objects and advantages the provision of an improved shirt of the detachable collar type.

Shirts of the detachable collar type arecharacterized by a neckband to which the collar is attached, with the front ends of the collar overlapping the overlapping ends of the neckband. The four overlapping elements are secured through the medium of the usual collar button. Such an arrangement of parts results in a bulky mass and it is frequently difilcult to insert the collar button through at least one button hole in the neckband and the two button holes of the collar. The back collar button frequently interferes with proper adjustment of the tie, and the two-point connection between the collar and the neckband does not always hold the collar in properly assembled relation with the neckba-nd.

Accordingly, an object of my invention is to provide a shirt and detachable collar wherein novel means are incorporated for effectively connecting the collar with the shirt throughout the entire length of the neckband and the collar. Another object is to. provide a shirt and detachable collar wherein a slide fastener is utilized for detachably connecting the collar with the neckband of the shirt, in which the slide element of the fastener is utilized as a mount for the collar button so'that the latter will efiective- 1y restrain the slide element from accidental shifting, and in which the button is inserted through one button hole in one end of the collar only for efiectively connecting the two ends of the neckband and the two ends of the collar in assembled relation.

In the embodiment selected to illustrate my invention, the shirt 86 includes a collar band it which is stitched to the shirt along the line 98,

and the neckband preferably comprises pieces l8 and between the upper marginal edges of which is secured the tape or strap 22 of aconventional slide fastener 24. Tape 22 is stitched to the pieces l8 and 20 along the line 26, and the tape extends the full length of the neckband M.

The second strap or tape 28 of the slide fastener 24 is secured between the inner wall 30 of the collar 32 and a cloth strip 34, as by stitching 36, with the strip 34 and the inner wall 30 sewed to the outer wall 38 of the collar by stitching 60. Fig. 2 illustrates the strip 3t as being coextensive in length with the neckband It, as well as the collar 32, and the strip is so arranged as to overlie the slide fastener 21 to provide an. enclosure therefor so that the necktie will slide freely when being shifted within the collar for tying purposes. Fig. 2 also illustrates the collar 32 when fully attached to the shirt ill, with the 32 is effectively connected with the neckband of slide element located at one end of the neckband and the collar. I

Slide element 62 is provided with a button 4t, and the button aligns with a button hole is in the strip 3d. The button is inserted through the button hole 68 and through a button hole 138 in the other end of the collar, which secures the ends of theneckband It as well as the collar 32. Fig. 6 illustrates the slide 52, which is conventional, as being provided with a loop at to which the button it is attached through the medium of a ring 52. It will thus be seen that thecollar the shirt and that the connection is such as to prevent any separation between the collar and the neckband. At the same time, the collar is provided with one button hole as and the button hole as merely accommodates projection of the button through th strip it, which strip functions to provide a covering for the slide fastener 26 to permit easy adjustment of the tie, which tie is positioned between the strip 345 and the wall 38 of the collar. Strip 3 5 is provided with a concaved edge 5 which narrows the strip intermediate its ends. I have found that such configuration of the strip 3e causes the latter to draw down tightly against the slide fastener 2t and to maintain its position.

Fig. 3 illustrates the collar 32 partly disconnected from the neclrband it, and the collar may be completely detached from the neckband. Fig.

3 also illustrates the neckband it as being tapered slightly from the end 5% in the direction of its opposite end 58, and the collar 32 is similarly angled for connection with the tape 2% of the slide fastener. Thus the slide fastener 26 at the end 58 of the neckband will lie beneath the button hole 48, but the other end of the slide fastener, when closed, will lie higher than at the end 58 so as to bring the slide element 42 into proper alignment with the button hole 48 when the ends said button hole, said slide fastener being angled with respect to the neckband and the collar to bring said slide element directly underneath said button hole in the buttoned condition of of the collar are overlapped preparatory tobelngx buttoned. The buttoned connection between the slide element 42 and the collar effectively anchors the slide element against accidental shifting so that the collar will remain effectively connected with the neckband.

My invention provides a shirt and detachable collar combination in which the slide fastener; provides continuous connection between the collar and the neckband and in which one button hole 48 coacts with the button 44 in such manner as to effectively connect the ends of the neckband l4 as well as the overlapping ends of the collar. The collar 32 may easily be connected and disconnected with respect to the neckband the collar and the slide fastener to one side of the button hole at the end of the collar opposite the slide element thereof when positioned for insertion of said button through said button 'hole.

2. The combination of a shirt having a neckband, a detachable collar having a button hole at one end, a slide fastener connection between the I4, and the slide fastener constitutes an effective connecting medium which facilitates interchangeability of the detachable collars. My invention eliminates the necessity for separate collar buttons such as are employed in connection with detachable collars and the strip 34 protects the tie from engagement with the slide fastener so that the tie may be shifted easily inside the collar.

Having thus described certain embodiments of my invention in detail, it is, of course, understood that I do not desire-to limit the scope thereof to the exact details set forth except insofar as those details may be defined in the appended claims. a

I claim: 1. The combination of a shirt having a neckband, a detachable collar having a single button hole located at one end thereof, a slide fastener collar and the neckband for detachably connecting the collar with the neckband, a button carried by the slide element of said slide fastener for insertion through said button hole, said slide fastener being so angularly related to the neckband and the collar as to bring the slide element thereof directly underneath said button hole in the buttoned condition of the collar, with the button hole located to one side of-the slide fastener at the end opposite the slide element thereof, and a strip secured to the collar for covering the slide fastener, said strip having a button hole for reception of said button.

3. The combination of a shirt having a neckband, a detachable collar having a button hole at one end, said collar having an outer wall, a

slide fastener connection between the collar and 4 the neckband for detachably connecting the collar with the neckband, a button carried by the slide element of said slide fastener for insertion through said button hole, said slide fastener being angled to bring the slide element thereof directly underneath said button hole in the .buttoned condition of the collar, with the button hole located to one side of the slide fastenerat the end opposite the slide element thereof, and a strip secured to the collar for extending over the slide fastener between the latter and the outer wall of the collar, said strip having a button hole for reception of said button.
