An object of this invention is to providea strong, rugged and durable pipe bending malchine, which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, easy to operate, and yet practical and emcient to a high degree in use.
Other objects of this invention will in part obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the feai tures of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplitled in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of applicationwill be indicated in the following claim.'y l5 the plate 2| passing through opposite corners In the accompanying drawings, in which' is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments oi this invention,
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a machine embodying the invention, with parts broken. away. and in cross-section;
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the machine shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged, @SS-sectional view taken onlinel-IofFlg. 1; v i 25 Fis. 4 is a cross-sectional view-taken on line Reiemng now in detail to the drawings, it
y'designates a p ipe bending machine embodying the invention. The. same comprises a frame support Il. provided' with front and rear parallel 35 base members i2V andy i2, to which there are tlxed, as by screws |2a and |2a,parallel, symmetrically angle shaped members I4 aind I5 having upstanding walls |4a and |5a.
Fixed -to the upstanding wall 1.4 oiv angle 0 shaped member I4, are a pair of vertical, parallel, similar, symmetrically disposed posts Il of angle shaped cross-section. "The posts I5 have side` walls I5 and `front walls 25.
Fixed tothe iipiitanding` wan or flange isa of 4t angl haped member I5 area pair of rear posts 2| d ving parallel sidewalls 22and aligned rear walls 22. i
Fixed to the posts I5 and 2|. and mounted on the bases I2 and l2; are parallel walls 24 having 50 at their Vupper ends inwardlyextending, hori` zontal 'iianges- 25. "Mounted on the iianges 25, and adjacent the rear posts 2|, is a horizontal,
transverse plate 2l camina a `block 21 formed at its upper end with a 'groove 25 of It thus be seeny that there is provided a curved transverse Vcross-section and inclined downwardly and forwardly.
Fixed to the flanges 25, as by rivets 2li, and located in advance of the plate 25, is a horizontal plate 2| formed with two parallel rows of openings 22, for. the purpose hereinafter appearin 8. v -.Fixed to the upper surface of plate 2|, is a member 24 of inverted V-shaped cross-section,
located between the rows of openings 22. Fixed 'to the underside of plate 2|, is a member 25, similar and symmetrically disposed with respect tothe member 24.
.Itwill be noted that the members 24 and 25 together form substantially a square tube, with of the tube. Wound around the tube 24, 55. and
'passing through the openings 22, is a cable 21, said cable being wound continuously in the mani ner of numeral 5 a number of times, the lower loop of the numeral 5 ypassing around the tube 24, 25 and the upper loop of the numeral 5 being located above said tube to form a strap n. A'
any suitable construction.
The front posts I5 extend to a higher level than the rear posts 2|. The upper ends of `the rear posts 2| may be connected to the upper ends of the front posts l5 by forwardly and upwardly inclined'beams 55. At thejuncture of the posts Ilwith the beams 55," are bearings 5| supporting a winch 52, The winch 52 comprises a drum 53. On the drum 52 is a doubled cable 54 having a loopedend 55. On the axle 5 of the drum is a worm wheel 51. Journalled o n brackets 55 which support the bearings 5|, is a worm 59 meshing with the worm, wheel 51. A crank handle 55 is provided to rotate the worm 59. The operation of the device I0 for bending pipe 55 .will now be described:
I l in contact with the groove 25. The pipe is also passed through the strap 28. The forward end of the pipe is passed through the looped end 55 of the cable 54. The crank handlell` is then turned to pullup the` end of the pipe,
to bend the pipe.
. Any suitable markings 15 may be made on the posts I5 to indicate the degree of bending achieved.
'The pipe is passed between the posts 2| and device in which the' Severn objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be V made .ofy the above invention, and as 'various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and inot in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A pipe bendingmachine comprising a pair of yparallel front and rear base members, a pair of I posts and extending from front to rear, a block mounted on the rear ends of said parallel plates and formed with a longitudinal groove of inclined, curved, transverse cross-section, inclined 5 forwardly and downwardly, .a horizontal plate .i
mounted on'said parallel plates in advance of said block and formed with twoV parallel rows of openings, a cable wound continuously through said openings in the form of a numeral 8, the
l0 upper loop of the numeral 8 comprising a strap located in advance of the groove and aligned therewith and substantially at the same level, -a
winch at the upper end of the front posts, said y strap being adapted to receive the pipeI to be 15 bent, with a portion of the pipe in the groove,
and said winch having means to engage another portion of the pipe, means on the front post to v indicate the degree to which the pipe has been bent, and means on theupper and lower sides 2do of vsaid horizontal plate about' which the lower loop of the numeral 3 is wound.
