Description

TOILET DEVICE Filed Aug. 19, 1941 IN VEN TOR.
WITNESSES:
' is disposed to open position.
- Patented Feb. 17, 1942 UNITED STATES EPATENT OFFICE 2,273,601 I d i rse xfixmmnc. d ,Application Allin 19, 19*1, Serial No. 407,;09 4 Claims. (Cl-132-79) This invention relates to toilet devices, and its general object is to provide adevice that includes a carrying case for toilet articles, particularly of the shaving type, and also means forsupporting the case in open position with respect to a wash basin or the like, for the articles to be in convenient reach of the user, the case acting in the capacity of a shelf when in open position, and the supporting mean being in the form of-a clamp fixed to the case and designed to set up a clamping engagementwith afaucet for detachable asmy device is extremely useful while travelling, in that the articles can be conveniently-carried in the case and when it isdesired to use the same,
the clamp is attached to the faucet and the case sociation therewith, therefore it will be seen that the latter to support the case with respect to a wash basin or the like.
The case in the form shown is of the foldable book type generally used for a shaving or toilet kit, and includes a substantially rigid main wall creased or constructed in any manner to provide 1 foldable sections I and 2, that are movable toward A further object is to provide a toilet device that includes a clamp for fastening and supporting the case with respect to and elevated above a faucet, and the clamp is foldable in compact form relative to the case, so that the device in its entirety will take up minimum space when not character set forth, that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and extremely efficient in operation, use and service.
This invention also consists in certain other and away from each other for disposal of the case to open or closed position. Formed on or otherwise secured to each of the sections adjacent to and about the edges thereof is a flexible wall 3, and the walls 3 have the companionelements 4 ofa slide fastener secured thereto about their edges forsecuring the case in closed position. However, the case may be of any suitable construction and. any type of fastening means may be provided for securing the same in closed position.
The clamp includes an elongated attaching a plate 5 of sheetmetal or the like, and it is of a length substantially coextensive with that of the main' wall, to terminate short of opposed edges thereof, as the clamp-is riveted or otherwise fixed to and along the center of the main wall to allow free folding of the case, as will be apparent.
Struck transversely of and from the plate 5 adjacent to and upon the opposite sides of the transverse center thereof are two pairs of cars 6 that are curved outwardly from the plate, but
*are directed toward each other, as best shown features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appendedclaims.
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view, with the clamp in folded position.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that I have illustrated my device as being in Figure 4. Each pair of ears provide bearings '9 from substantially midway their ends-toward their outer ends, fora portion of their length,
and 'the undulations formed by the crimped portions provide seats II fora purpose which will be later apparent. The limbs 8 are curved at their outerends and those portions of the limbs between the outermost seats I0 and the curved outer ends provide companion clamping jaws II which cooperate with each other to engage the outer side faces pf the spout A to set up a clamping engagement therewith, as best shown applied to the outlet spout of a double or mixing.
faucet, but it will be obvious that the device can be applied to any type of faucet or fixture, ap-
use, as shown, to prevent any possibility of casual The band I! is receivable in removal or displacement of the jaws from the spout.
By that construction, it will be seen that the U-shaped members coact with each other to support the case in an elevated open position above the handles of the faucet, for the case to act in the capacity of a shelf, and so that the contents of the case will be in convenient reach of the user, the contents shown being shaving articles. that is a razor and a tube of shaving cream. but any type of articles can be placed and carried in the case, as will be apparent.
In order to urge and hold the U-shaped or supporting and clamping members in folded position against and in parallelism with the attaching plate, as shown in Figure 3, so that the device in its entirety will take up minimum space when not in use, such for example when placed in a travelling bag or medicine cabinet, I provide a spring for each U-shaped member and each spring is formed from a single strand of resilient wire, the strand being looped midway its ends to provide a free portion ll engaged with the plate between the pairs of ears. From the free portion i3 the strand is coiled about the bight portion of its member. between the ears t, as at H, and thence extends from the coiled portions into diverging portions it that terminate in hooks i6 engaged with the limbs L, It will be noted as best shown in Figure 4 that the limbs 8 are curved adjacent their juncture with the bight portion thereof to provide seats H for the band II, to allow the limbs to lie flat against the attaching plate 5, as will be apparent upon inspection of Figure 4. i
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
WhatI claim is:
1. A toilet device comprising a carrying case for toilet articles, a pair of elongated members pivotally connected at one of their ends to said case, clamping jaws formed on said members, means slidably mounted on said members for disposing the jaws in clamping engagement'with a faucet for said members to support the case in open position above said faucet, and said members being foldable in parallelism with said case when not in use.
2. A toilet device comprising a carrying case for toilet articles, a'pair ofelongated substantially U-shaped members having their bight portions pivotally connected to said case, clamping laws formed on the outer end portions of the limbs of said members, a band slidably mounted on said limbs for disposing the jaws in clamping engagement with a faucet for said members .to support the case in open position above said faucet, and springs bearing against said limbs for urging and holding the same in parallelism with said case when not in use.
3. A toilet device comprising a foldable case for toilet articles, a slide fastener for securing the case in closed position, a plate fixed to said case, ears struck from said plate and providing bearings, a pair of elongated U-shaped members having their bight portions mounted in the bearings for movement of the limbs of said members toward and away from each other, said limbs being crimped along portions of the length thereof to provide seats, clamping jaws formed on the outer end portions of, said limbs, a band surrounding and slidably mounted on said limbs for disposing the jaws in clamping engagementv with a faucet for said members to support the case in an open position above said faucet, said band being receivable in any of the seats to prevent removal of the jaws from their clamped position, springs mounted on the bight portions and bearing against the limbs for urging and holding said members in folded position with said limbs in parallelism with said plate, and said limbs being curved at their juncture with the bight portions to provide seats receiving theband therein when said members are in folded position to allow the limbs to bear against said plate.
4. A device comprising a carrying case, a pair of elongated members pivotally connected at one of their ends to said case, clamping Jaws formed on said members, means mounted onsaid members for disposing the jaws in clamping engagement with suitable supporting means for said members to support the case in open position above said supporting means for the open portion of the case to form a shelf, and said members being foldable in parallelism with said case when not in use.
