The general object of my invention is to provide an improved portable, readily operable means, enabling two ends of awire, suchas might be usedin concrete forms or about bales or bundles and in other places, to be readily stretched and twisted so that the wire will remai in position.
A-further object of my invention is to provide a, wire tightening and twisting device, including a pair of pivoted arms having wire engaging members thereon and operable to tighten and twist 'the'ends of a Wire.
Another object of the invention is to provide aywire tightening and twisting device, including a pair-ofarms, each having an arcuate cam member thereon provided with a Wire engaging portion for engaging an end of a wire. 1

A-further object of the invention'is to provide a wire tightening and twisting device, including a pair'of pivoted arms with each arm having a curved plate thereon and each curved plateyhaving a'wire engaging post thereon. Other objects andadvantages of my invention will be apparent from the following description At the forward end each of the arms I I is provided with an arcuate engaging member H! which is welded to the end 20 of the associated arm. Each engaging member is hown as provided with a reinforcing strip 2| which is welded theretoas at 22. Each reinforcing strip is also welded as at 23 to the adjacent arm.

Fig. 6 shows the device after the handles are the wire stretching and twisting device which is indicated generally at H). As shown the devic includes a pair of arms or handles II which are suitably pivoted together by a fastening member such as a threaded button l2 which passes through holes i3 at the forward end of the arms.
Other holes l4 and 15 in the arms provide for adjustment of the pivoted mounting.
."I'he arms at their forward ends (Fig. 2) are parallel and adjacent as at IB'while at the rear .ends at I! they preferably diverge to provide a space l8 to receive the fingers of the operator.
Each engaging member i9 is further provided with a wireengaging post 26 and with a wire securing post 21. These posts 26 and 21 are suitably welded as at 28 and 29 to the engaging members. The post 26 is preferably provided with a wire receiving slot 30. r
In the use of my device the handle members I I are moved from the position shownin Fig. -1 to the position shown in Fig. 5. The ends 3| and 32 of awire 33, arranged loosely about form members or other members 34, are inserted in the notches 24. The ends 3! and 32 are then twisted about'the tongue 25 as indicated at 35. The engaging members l9 are positioned against one .of the form or other members while this is being done;
The handles l I are then brought together to the position shown in Fig. 6 and the handles are then rotated thus twisting the wire as at 36 to secur nthe ends together. The handles Il may then be slightly spread apart permitting the tongues 25 to pass fromthe twist 36 in the wire ends so that the handles may be readily removed.
When the posts 26' and 21 are employed the wire ends 3T as shown in Fig. '7 run. through the notches 24 to the post 26 into the notches 30 and then to the post 21 about which they may be bent as at 38. The handles l I are then rotated to form a lock twist 39v after which the device may be removed.
In Figs. 8 and 9,.I show a modification of my invention. In this modification, a pair of handle members I l are pivoted together as at l2. Each handle has, a cylindrical, engaging member 19 secured thereto with the end of the'handle welded at 40 to the inner periphery of the member l9, and with the handle passing through a slot 4| in the member I9 and welded in the slot as at 42. The members l9 are the same size and bear upon each other as shown in Fig. 9, and each member has a notch 43 in its periphery with a tongue 44 bent up from the notch. The notches are V shaped, as shown, so that the ends of wires may be passed through the notches and twisted around the tongues 44. The front of each member I9 is knurled as at 45 to provide a rough, ripping surface. The operation of the modification is substantially the same as that previously described and a further description thereof is believed unnecessary.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that I have invented a novel wire stretching and wire twisting device which can be economically manufactured and which is highly efficient for its intended purpose. 7
Having thus described my invention I claim:
1. In a wire stretching and twistingdevice, a pair of arms, means to pivotally connect said arms, the arms including adjacent portions at the forward ends and spaced portions at the rear ends thereof, an arcuate engaging member arranged transverse to and secured upon the forward end of each arm, the engaging members being disposed in side by side relation, one of said engaging members having a notch therein at one end and having a tongue projecting beyond the notch and the other engaging member at the end remote from said one end having a second notch therein and having a second tongue projecting beyond the second notch."
2. In a wire stretching and twisting device, a pair'of arms, means to pivotally connect said arms, the arms including adjacent portions at the forward ends and spaced portions at the rear ends thereof, an arcuate engaging member arranged transverse to and secured upon the forward end of each arm, the engaging members being disposed in side by side relation, one of said engaging members having a notch therein at one end and the other engaging member at the end remote from said one end having a notch therein, said engaging member adjacent the notch and thereof having a wire engaging post projecting rearwardly therefrom, each wire engaging post having a slot in the end thereof remote from the engaging member.
3. In a wire stretching and twisting device, a pair of arms, means to pivotally connect said arms, the arms including adjacent portions at.
the forward ends and spaced portions at the rear ends thereof, an arcuate engaging member arranged transverse to and secured upon the forward end of each arm, the engaging members being arranged in side by side relation, each engaging member having an arcuate reinforcing strip secured to the rear thereof, each reinforcing strip being secured to the adjacent arm, one of said'engaging members having a notch therein at one end and having a tongue projecting beyond the notch and the other engaging member at the end remote from said one end having a notch therein and having a tongue projecting beyond the notch.
4. In a wire stretching and twisting device, a pair of arms, means to pivotally connect said arms, the arms including adjacent portions at the forward ends and spaced portions at the rear ends thereof, an arcuate engaging member arranged transverse to and secured upon the forward end of each arm, the engaging members being disposed in side by side relation, one of said engaging members having a notch therein at one end and having a tongue projecting beyond the notch and the other engaging member at the end remote from said one end having a notch therein and having a tongue pro ecting beyond the notch, said engaging member adjacent the notch end thereof having a wire engaging post projecting rearwardly therefrom, each wire engaging post having a slot in the end thereof remote from the engaging member.
5. In a wire stretching and twisting device, a pair of arms, means to pivotally connect said arms, the arms including adjacent portions at the forward ends and spaced portions at the rear ends thereof, an arcuate engaging member arranged transverse to and secured upon the forward end of each arm, the engaging members being arranged in side by side relation, each engaging member having an arcuate reinforcing strip secured to the rear thereof, each reinforcing strip being secured to the adjacent arm, one of said engaging members having a notch therein at one end and the other engaging member at the end remote from said one end having a notch therein, each engaging member adjacent the notch end thereof having a wire engaging post projecting rearwardly therefrom, each wire engaging post having a slot in the end thereof remote from the associated engaging member.
6. In a wire stretching and twisting device, a pair of arms, means to pivotally connect said arms, the arms including adjacent portions at the forward ends and spaced portions at the rear ends thereof, an arcuate engaging member arranged transverse to and secured upon the forward end of each arm, the engaging members being disposed in side by side re1ation, one of said engaging members having a notch therein at one end and having a tongue projecting beyond the notch and the other engaging member at the end remote from said one end having a notch therein and having a tongue projecting beyond the notch, Said engaging member adjacent the notch end thereof having a wire engaging post projecting rearwardly therefrom, each wire engaging post having a slot in the end thereof remote from the engaging member and each engaging member at the end thereof remote from the tongue thereon having a wire securing post thereon.
7. In a wire stretching and twisting device, a pair of arms, means to pivotally connect said arms, the arms including adjacent portions at the forward ends and spaced portions at the rear ends thereof, an arcuate engaging member arranged transverse to and secured upon the forward end of each arm, the engaging members being arranged in side by side relation, each engaging member having an arcuate reinforcing strip secured to the rear thereof, each reinforcing strip being secured to the adjacent arm, one of said engaging members having a notch therein at one end and having a tongue projecting beyond the notch and the other engaging member at the end remote from said one end having a notch therein and having a tongue projecting beyond the notch, said engaging member adjacent the notch end thereof having a wire engaging post projecting rearwardly therefrom, each wire engaging post having a slot in the end thereof remote from the associated engaging member and each engaging member at the end thereof remote from the tongue thereon having a wire securing post thereon.
8. In a wire stretching and twisting device, a pair of overlapping arms, means to pivotally connect said arms, said arms including spaced portion at the rear ends thereof, an engaging member secured upon the forward end of each arm, the engaging members being disposed one above the other in superimposed relation, each engaging member having an arcuate outer end surface adapted to be engaged by a wire, the arcuate ends being aligned, and wire anchoring means for securing a wire to each engaging member.
