5 Claims. (im. ,G6-iin) f This -invention 'is yfor improvements in Cottons patent and other Vstraiglfit barfknitting machines, and is concerned with the draw or Coul-ier mechanism therein. Its -cbjecti'sl to provide draw Aor Coul-ier mechanism* which :is morev robust and smooth in operation than the mechanisms heretofore used. l
'This invention provides vin -a Cottons patentv or lother straight bar knitting fmachine, Coulier or 'draw A'mechanism vcomprising the draw cam, a
member guided for rectilinear movement -vand lre-y fversa, and Acomprising an element 'occupyinga liixed locationon the one par't but :reciprocating -in or on a "suitable guide org-uides in or on'the other part In `the preferred Yconstruction the ysaid element comprises a p'ivotally mounted slide block capable of 4'reci-procati-ng onrsuitable` .guide ing means in a direction which is transverse to the 'direction of reciprocation of the two members aforesaid.
Preferably theaforesaid element or guide block i-s, in eael-i vclevice,lsecured to the draw lever :and is arranged 'to reciprocate in or on suitable. guide means provided on the associated.reciprocatable member.
In order that the invention maybe ,better understood .a vpreferred construction embodying it Will now be described in detail by way of example, With reference to the accompanying drawings, in which v Figures 1 and lA together show an elevation of the mechanism;
Figure 2 is a cross sectional View, partly in elevation, taken approximately on the plane indicated by the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 3 isa section of a'detail thereof, taken on the line 3-3 in Fig. 2; While Figure 4 is a sectional elevation of a further detail.
The accompanying drawings show only the Coulier or draw mechanism, since it is only with 55 in the reciprocatable box 24. The guide bar25 (iii) "this" mechanism that thefinvention is concerned and the remainderof the machine .is'well under-y stood in the art.
in the illustrated 'construction the drawcani' I8 fis, as uSuaLmOun-ted on a horizontal cam shaft II which extendstransversely lof the length of `the machine; yit 'reciprocates'a'horizontalpdraw bar I2 which extends lengthwise of the machine, and is so designed vas to impart'lcons'tant 'acceleration anddeceleration to' said draw bar.
-The latter is guided .nearer each lend kbetween -upper 4and' lower rollersl 3; I4 vwhich are kadjust-- able'bymeans indicated` at 3l 'to take up wear -and Vto 4prevent playgand it is provided with-twoother rollers or cam trucks I5,rv lr6 whichL engage #the periphery of the ydraw 'cam I0 at vdiametrically opposed points, the' axis .of Arotation .of :said .cam llilland the axes ofl the `said :trucks: I5, I6 being f in ione. Aand the same horizontal vplane.:v These trucks l5,v .-IB are. adjustable by ymeans indicated Iatf3ll :towards and-away. `Vfrom each otherron the draw barIZfto take ,upy wear and to obviateplay. .Pivotally mountedona horizontal pivot spindle .I l1 .there is r'an' upstanding draw. .iever I8.; t This pivot, Vspindle Ii] is ,fsecu-relyrmounted :in a robust vbracket :i9 Aattached vtoyone of theflongitudinal frame members or beams 20 of the machine'gand 'its axis' --is.imm,ediately'.below. and in theisameV vertical plane asv'the axis of the :draw cam I0, vi ,"Thegdrawilever ,I8 is kdriven from the drawrbar :I 2 byza'across-head,device. Thisjdevice comprises a slideblockl which isfpivotallymounted upon ahorizontal pivot pin L22 secured ,toA and projecting fromone face of the draw lever I8 towards the. draw .bar 1I2,k and this-slide. block 2| is re-'- l,ceived .and guided ,in a vertical guide slot123 ,p ro# vided midway in thejength of ,the ldraw, bar ,|2-.
Thus asfthe'draw bar I2 ,reiprocates ,the draw lever I 8Z=is l.caused fto oscillate, in which mover' mentsfthe ,slide block` *,2-Il`v rocks -upon iSkpVOt 22 and slides up and down in they guide slot 23. The rubbing faces of theslide block 2 I, or ofthe slot 23, are provided with brasses or friction means. f
At its upper end the draw lever I8 is connected by means of a similar cross-head device (com-v other anti- I is supported from a longitudinal frame member 26.
As a result of this mechanism the constant acceleration reciprocatory movements of the draw bar l2 are converted into like movements `of the box 24. This box 24 is connected to the :slur cock tie bar or to a thread carrier driving rod, or to both, and in a multi-division machine such for example as a multi-division full-fashioned stocking machine, there may be one draw mechanism as hereinbefore described for driving the slur cocks and another similar mechanism for driving thread carriers. Thus inrFig. -2 the block 24 of one draw mechanism is connected both to the slur cock tie bar 29 and to a driving rod or friction bar 2'!v for the splicing or plating carriers, while in Fig. 4 the block 24 of a like draw mechanism is shown as connected to the main carrier driving bar 28 only.
Alternatively there may be a single draw mechlanism for driving the slur cock or cocks, a plating -carrier or carriers, and the main carrier or carriers.
.. vIn a further alternative there are three of the ,drawgmechanisma one for driving the slur cock iorcocks, a second for driving the main carrier or carriers, and a third for driving a plating ,carrier or carriers.
