Description

Dec. 30,1941. P, MAYE 2,268,294
ATTACHMENT FOR HAIR DRIERS Filed 'Feb. 5, i941 Patented Dec. 30, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ATTACHMENT FOR HAIR DRIERS Peggie Mayer, Washington, D. 0.
Application February 5, 1941, Serial No. 377,555
Claims. (Cl. 34-96) This invention relates to hair driers and the object of the invention is to provide an attachment for hair driers which will support the head of the person during the drying operation, thus permitting her to relax and sleep while the hair is being dried.
It is a well known fact that women often go to a beauty parlor for a shampoo or a wave after a shopping tour or a days work. Consequently, they are tired and find it difficult at times to keep their heads properly positioned within the drier. Sometimes, the head will droop forward, with the result that the front part of the hair will not dry, or the head will fall backward against the drier and the back of the hair will not dry.
It is therefore an object of my invention to provide a support for the head which can be inexpensively manufactured and which may be attached to a hair drier by incorporating only a slight change in the drier by the manufacturer thereof.
I accomplish the above, and other objects of the invention, which will be apparent as the description proceeds, by means of the construction shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. l is a side elevation of a drier having my invention applied therto; and
Fig. 2 is a perspective of the device constitu ing my invention.
On the drawing, in which like reference characters indicate like parts on all the views thereof, indicates a hair drier of conventional form. 2 indicates the support for the head, which is formed from flexible material, and which constitutes my invention. The support 2 is preferably formed of two layers of leather 3, 4, the outer layer 3 being of dark leather and the inner layer 4 of soft, white leather. The support is wide enough in the center to fit under and support the chin of the user and is narrow at the ends as shown. A plurality of apertures 5 are provided in each end of the support and metal grommets are secured therein.
On the head piece of the drier, riveted, or welded or otherwise secured thereto, are small projections 65, one on each side over which fit the apertures 5 of the support, thus holding it in operative position. An additional projection I may also be provided on the top of the head piece for an aperture on one end of the support in the event that the customer desires to remove the band from under her chin and put it out of the way.
While I have shown and described apertures and projections for detachably connecting the support with a hair drier hood, it is apparent that it is within the purview of my invention to provide other cooperating detachable elements on the hood and support, instances of which may be found in snap hooks and snap fasteners.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a simple and effective means for supporting the head of a persion whose hair is being dried and one which is adjustable to fit the heads of various persons.
It is also apparent that the use of my invention will permit the customer to relax and sleep while her hair is being dried.
It is also apparent that the only change neces sary in order to adapt a hair drier for use with my invention is to provide small buttons or projections on the hood, which the manufacturer can provide at a minimum of expense.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A head support for hair driers comprising a chin band for supporting the chin of the user, and means for connecting said band to the hair drier.
2. A head support for hair driers comprising a chin band of flexible material having a portion constructed and arranged to be placed beneath the chin of the user, and means for detachably connecting said band to the head piece of the drier.
3. A head support for hair driers comprising a chin band of flexible material, said band having a wide central portion and narrow ends, and means for detachably connecting the ends of the band to the head piece of the drier.
4. A device as claimed in claim 3 wherein the band is made of laminated material.
5. The combination with the head piece of a hair drier of a chin support, cooperating means on the head piece and the chin support for detachably connecting said support to said head piece for operatively supporting the head of the user under the head piece, and means on said head piece for supporting the chin support in inoperative position.
