s claims. (ci. ca -232) The invention relates to laundry units and more particularly to means for supporting a single tub or a plurality of tubs in a set.
The object of the improvement is to provide a standard for supporting one or more tubs comprising a plurality of identically similar legs and cooperating clips for supporting a single tub or two or more tubs connected together as a unit.
'Another object is to provide a wringer support for clamping the rim edges of two adjacent tubs together and arranged to cooperate with the improved'legs and clips for clamping and supporting the tubs.'
The above objects together with others which will be apparent from the drawings and following description or which may be hereinafter referred to may be attained by constructing the improved laundry unit in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective View showing two tubs connected together as a unit by means of the improved legs, clips andwringer support;

The invention is an improvement upon the application for Tub sets, filed February '1, 1939, by William C. McClaskey, Serial No. 255,107, and contemplates an improved form of leg and clip for supporting a single tub or a plurality of connected tubs and so constructed and arranged that when attached together in one position a plurality of these legs and clips will support a single tub or the outer sides of adjacent tubs, and 'when attached together in another position they will cooperate with an improved wringer support for joining and clamping two tubs together and supporting the tubs at the point of connection.
The improved tub supporting devices are adapted for supporting and connecting together any well-known type of wash tub, and for the purpose of illustration a conventional type of sheet metal tub is indicated at I 0 having the usual rim bead Ii at its upper open edge and x conventional chime I2 around its bottom The improved leg forming a part of the invention is preferably stamped from fairly heavy gauge sheet metal and is indicated generally at I3, and as shown in the drawings, the legs are preferably of channel or V-cross sectional shape from a point near their lower ends throughout the greater 'part of their length.
The lower end of each leg may terminate in the tubular end It for the attachment of a caster I5 by means of which the laundry unit may be easily moved upon the floor to any desired location. l
The upper portion of each leg may be substantially flat as indicated at I8 and provided with the central, upwardlyv tapered corrugation or rib I1 which is a continuation of the channel portion of the leg.
The upper end of each leg isl bent outwardly as at I8 and terminates in the forwardly and downwardly extending hook .I9 adapted to engage over the rim bead oi' the tub or over the end ofthe wringer support as will be later described in detail.
An angularly o set boss 20 is stamped in each leg at a point spaced below its upper end and provided with an aperture 2| adapted to receive a bolt 22 for attaching a clip rto each leg in a manner to be later described.
Each of the clips is indicated generally at 23 and may be stamped from a single sheet of heavy gauge sheet metal of the general shapeV as best shown in Fig. 2.
The body portion 24 of each clip is substantially ilat and is provided at each side with the channel shape arcuate flanges 25 adapted to receive the chimes I2 of two adjacent tubs in the manner shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5.
A central opening 26 is formed in the body portion to receive the bolt 22 when the clip is located in the position best shown in Fig. 6 for supporting a single tub or supporting the outer sides of two joined tubs as shown in Fig. 1.
One end of the body portion of the clip is preferably tapered as at 29 and terminates in the substantially half-round off set hook 29 the end portion of which is bent down and located below the normal plane of the body portion 2l as indicated at 30.
The body portion 24 of the clip is cut out at 3|, directly adjacent to the hook 29 in order to receive the oifset portion of a. similar hook of another similar clip when the clips are arranged in the position shown in Figs. 3, 4` and 5 for clamping the chime portions of two adjacent tubs together in a manner to be later described in detail.
A wing 32 extends outwardly at an angle from the other end of the body portion 24 and is provided with a central aperture 33 to receive the boit 22 when the clip is located in the position shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5 to cooperate with the legs to clamp the chime portions of two adjacent tubs together.
This wing terminates in a substantially right angular ange 34 having an edge 35 shaped to nt the curvature of the chime of a tub when the clip and leg are positioned as shown in Fig. 6 for supporting a single tub or the outer sides of two adjacent tubs as indicated in Fig. l.
To support a single tub, three of the legs I3 and three of the clips 23 may be connected to the tub at equally spaced points in the manner shown in Fig. 6, the hooked upper end I9 of each leg being engaged over the rim bead II of the tub.
Each clip is positioned as shown in said figure with the flange 34 thereof against the bottom of the tub and the edge 35 thereof contacting the inside of the chime I2, while the hook portion 29 of the clip is received within the channel shaped leg I3, the bolt 22 being located through the aperture 2| in the angular boss 20 of the leg and through the aperture 26 inthe body portion 24 of the clip, a nut 36 being placed upon the threaded end of the bolt and tightened so as to draw the clip tightly against the leg and the bottom of the tub forcing the arcuate edge 35 of the clip tightly against the inside of the chime I2 of the tub.
Where two tubs are to be connected together as a unit, in the manner illustrated in Fig. l, two legs and clips may be attached to the outer side of each tub in the manner above described.
'Ihe two tubs may be connected together by means of two of the legs and two of the clips and a. wringer support as indicated generally at 31.
For this purpose two of the clips 23 are located in the position shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5 and interlocked by means of the hooked portions 29, and if desired, a bolt as indicated at 40 may be located through the two interlocking hooked end portions of the clips for binding them more rigidly together. i
In this position the body portions 24 of the clips are located in a horizontal plane and the channel flanges 25 thereof receive the chimes I2 of the two adjacent tubs when the tubs are positioned as shown in Figs. 1 and 4 with their rim beads II in contact with each other, and the located between the inverted channel shaped wringer support 31 is located over said beads as shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4, the depending arcuate flanges 38 of said wringer support engaging the inner walls of the tubs.
A transversely disposed depression or opening 39 is formed in each end of the wringer support to receive the hooked upper ends I9 of a pair of oppositely disposed legs I3 which are located at opposite ends of the wringer support and clips, and between the two adjacent tubs and connected to the clips by bolts 22 as shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5, these bolts extending through the apertures 33 in the wings 32 of the clips, the nuts 36 being tightened upon the threaded portions of the bolts for clamping the several parts tightly together, drawing the wringer support tightly down over the rim beads of the two tubs and drawing the clips tightly up with the channel flanges 25 thereof tightly against the chimes I2 of the two tubs.
It will thus be seen that the same legs and clips, located in either one of the two positions above described, may be used for supporting the outer sides of the tubs as well as for supporting the adjoining sides thereof and for cooperating with the wringer support for locking the tubs together.
It should be understood that although only two tubs are shown connected together by the legs and clips and wringer support, any desired number of tubs may be connected together in the same manner,
By substituting the wringer support 31 for the notched upper ends of the McClaskey application above referred to, a stronger and more rigid structure is provided and at the same time a smoother hooked upper end is provided upOn the legs, thus preventing the possibility of catching any clothing therein.
Furthermore, the channel flanges 25 receive and position the chime portions of the tub more positively than the form of clips shown in the McClaskey application and thus hold the two tubs more rigidly locked together.
We claim:
1. A support for two adjacent tubs including a channel shape wringer support engaged over the rims of the two tubs, two clips having flanges engaged under the chimes of the two tubs, two legs located between the two tubs and having hooked upper ends engaged over the ends of the wringersupport, and means for connecting each leg to the adjacent clip.
2. A support for two adjacent tubs including a channel shape wringer support engaged over the rims of the two tubs, two clips having flanges engaged under the chimes of the two tubs, two legs located between the two tubs and having hooked upper ends engaged over the ends of the wringer support, a downwardly inclined bolt for connecting each leg to the adjacent clip, and drawing the hooked upper end of the leg into tight engagement with the wringer support.
3. A support for two adjacent tubs including a channel shape wringer support engaged over the rims of the two tubs, and having depressions near its ends, two clips having ilanges engaged under the chimes of the two tubs, two legs two tubs and having hooked upper ends engaged over the ends of the wringer support and received in said depressions, and

4. A support for two adjacent tubs including a clip having flanges engaging under the chimes of the two tubs. a channel shape wringer support engaged over the rims of the two tubs, and having a depression therein, a leg having a hooked upper end engaged in the depression of said wringer support, and means for connecting the leg to said clip.
5. A support for two adjacent tubs including a channel shape wringer support engaged over the rims of the two tubs, a plurality of legs having hooked upper ends, a plurality of clips, means forv detachably connecting each leg to one of the clips, two of the clips being engaged under the chimes of both tubs, means for connecting said two last named clips together, and two of the legs connected to said two clips and having their hooked upper ends engaged over said wringer support.
