Pattern pressers as heretofore known consist of a presser bar provided with teeth arranged in accordance with the'pattern to be. produced, saidteeth serving the purpose of pressing the needles required for the production of the desired patterns. For each pattern to be produced, thereiorepa special pattern bar is required.
According to' the present invention the pattern presser consists oi a presser bar provided with exchangeable presser teeth which maybe mounted upon the presser bar according to the pattern A to be produced. To obtainan easier handling of the presser teeth, each of such a width, that at least two needles may -be operated by thesame. To render the presser teeth useable for any pattern, the teeth may be so constructed that they have apresser edge at one side only, so that individual needles also may be pressed.
It is an object of the present invention to prolvide a pattern presser having the presser teeth connection with warp thereof capable of being rearranged thereon as desired, in order to present said lteeth in various positions, as required for ferent patterns.
Some constructions of pattern pressers according to the invention are shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings.

`Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings wherein like and correpresser teeth inserted in of them Vpreferably is upon an upper falce thereof with a presser edge- 9. 'I'hose of the presser teeth 5 which are re-l quired to be in an operative position, that is, in
a position for pressing against needles of a warp knitting machine, are positioned upon presser bar la with projections 'I 8 inserted within grooves 2a and 3a respectively, whereas, the presser teeth 5 which are to remain in an inoperative or non-.contacting position lhave the projections 6, 1 and 8 positioned within the grooves 2a, 3a and 4a respectively. The first of said tooth positions is disclosed inFigure 2 of the drawings, whereas, the second mentioned position is shown in Figure `3. With the teeth 5 thus mounted upon presser bar Ia,- a plate l0 is mounted upon the upper face of the teeth in both of said positions and a bolty I I passing through an opening thereof and being in threaded engagement with a corresponding opening in bar la, is caused to'be tightened for retaining Said teeth 5 between the plate I0 and presser bar la.

A modied form of presser `tooth 5a is shown in Figures 6 and I with a. second modied form inFigures 8 and 9. 'I'he ilrst modied form has Ithe usual projections 6, 'l and 8 upon the lower face thereof with a body being of a width substantially equal to the body of the presser tooth Nm disclosed in Figures 4` and 5, but havingthe portions thereof .forming thepresser edge-9a oi a width approximately one-half the width ot the body.v Such a modiiied' form of presser tooth may be positioned upon presser bar l next to a presser tooth as shown in Figures 4 and 5 and thereby ll in a space" substantially equal to' the space iilled by the principal form oftooth and yet, at the same time, present a presser edge 9a which will press a single needle.
'I'he second modification shown in Figures 8 and 9 is similar to that of the iirst mentioned modified formbut, as best` shown in Figure 9, has a presser edge 9b otl a single needle width but formed contiguous with and extending from a side of the tooth 5b opposite to the side thereof 9a of said iirst example as shown in Figure 10, can be obtained.
That is, four needles may be pressed, then one needle, two needles, one needle and three needles with respective spaces for causing one needle, then two needles, three needles and four needles to remain inoperative. The presser teeth a,
A 5b as shown in Figures 6 to 9 inclusive, will each press one needle and leave a needle therebeside inoperative or if the two modied forms of the needles are placed side by side, each will press a needle and leave a pair of needles between the pressed needles inoperative. thereof, the presser teeth may be positioned in any -desired arrangement, depending entirely upon the pattern to be formed. After the presser teeth 5, 5a and 5b are mounted upon the presser bar Ia as desired, plate I0 and bolt II are positioned thereon for retaining the presser teeth in their given position. ,Y
Presser teeth may also be made of a width suitable foracting upon more than two needles at a time and such presser teeth may be provided with a presser edge in amanner -as shown in V'Figures 6 and 'I or 8 land 9 respectively, so that,
for example, one needle or a plurality of needles may be pressed, depending upon the width and the shape ofthe presser edge of the presser tooth.-
'I'he numerals upon the drawings having no lead lines therefrom indicate the number of needles to be pressed or to remain inoperative, depending upon the width and position of the presser tooth therebeside.
Pattern pressers as hereinabove described, as best shown in Figure l1 of the drawings, are connected to a link 20 of a warp knitting machine and are slidably arranged upon a fiat portion of a plain presser I 3. Said plain presser I3 is AS a resultmounted upon a bearing Iz and adapted to be moved to and from the bearded needles Il.
Bearing I2 is fixed upon a holder I5 which is reciprocated by a cam shaft of the warp knitting machine to effect the above mentioned movements .of the presser I3. The plain presser Il is, by means of an intermediate link I6, connected to an eye I1 which is provided on a joint member nxed upon a shaft Il journalled in the holder I5. Due" to this construction, the plain presser may be reciprocated upon the bearing I2,

connected to the presser bar Ia of the patterny A presser according-to the present invention. Fixed upon the shaft I8 is a fork 2| carrying at the end of each prong a roller 22 and 23 respectively cooperating with a` double cone shiftably mounted upon a shaft 25 to alternately bring the two pressers I3 and Ia into their operative position. In this manner, presser teeth, which are mounted in said operative position, contact the bearded needles I4, whereas, the presser teeth, inthe inoperative position, remain out of-contact at all times 'with said needles and by changing the arrangement of the presser teeth, various of the bearded needles I4 will be obviously contacted, thereby forming various patterns as desired.
What I claim is: v
A pattern presser for use upon warp knitting machines comprising a presserbar providedwith a pluralityV of grooves, presser teeth each of a width suiiicientto press a plurality of needles at `a tinie being detachably carried by said presser bar and said presser teeth each having projections corresponding to said grooves carried-thereby in order that said presser teeth may be mounted upon said presser bar in various positions thereof.`
