LOCK-NUT.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 226,263, dated April 6, 188-C Application filed November 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES BjATwooD, of
Three Rivers, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement 5 in Lock-Nuts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of refer- IO ence marked thereon.
The object of my invention is to cause nuts to gripe bolts so as to prevent dislodgnient. To effect this I provide each nut with one or more oblique slots, which extend inward from I 5 the face or faces at a point or points between the center of the nut and one or more of its sides to a point near the middle of the nut.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I represents a perspective view of a nut provided with the said slots according to my i11- vention, and Fig. II represents a transverse vertical section of the same through its axis.
A designates a nut of hexagonal form, with flat faces D and threaded central hole, 0, which receives the bolt. From each face D a slot, B, 2 5
will gripe and hold the bolt so as to prevent dislodgrnent.
Instead of two slots, there may be but one, or there may be more than two. In any case the action will be the same.
