WARD H. BLAOKLER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WlNDOW-CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 226,156, dated April 6, 1880.
Application filed March 10, 1850. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WARD H. BLACKLER,
of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Seats or Chairs for 'Washing WVindows and other purposes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to furnish a seat or chair for washing windows, which can be used with perfect safety by persons when thus employed, and thus avoid the frequent accidents which happen to persons when using the ordinary appliances for this purpose and it may also be used as an ordinary chair. I therefore provide my seat with arms and back to prevent people from falling.
Figures 1 and 2 show side elevations of the chair.
A is the back of the chair; J, the arms; J, the seat; B, the hind legs, brace, or support; L, the front legs; H, metal bands; 0, screwrod furnished with thumb-nut D. O is section of a window-sill and wall of the building.
The arms J and seat J are both furnished with slots,in which the supports B move freely. The supports B are pivoted at their upper extremities to the arms J. The screw-rods O and thumb-nuts D are employed to hold the legs B firmly in any position in which they may be placed.
The upper ends of the legs L are made a good deal wider than is usual in ordinary chairs, and provided with a shoulder, E, to give additional strength.
When used for washing windows the seatis placed on the window-sill and the braces B are drawn forward, so that their lower ends rest against the wall of the building and hold thechair firmly in position by the screws 0 and thumb-nuts D, as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 1.
Instead of the rods 0, with screws and thumb-nuts D, a flat plate with holes and furnished with pins could be used, as shown in Fig. 2.
What I claim as my invention is-- 1. A chair provided with hind legs pivoted to the arms J, and with fastening devices, so that when extended backward they form the hind legs of the chair, and when brought forward against the outer wall of a building, and secured in that position by said fastening devices, they act as braces to hold the chair in position, as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
2. The combination, in a chair for washing windows, of braces B, arms J, attached thereto by pivots, and rods 0, provided with fastening mechanism and attached above the seat of the chair, as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
WARD H. BLAGKLER.
