Description
RAZOR Filed July 5, 1940 y fwanu 5773072 er l`9 l l .l `l INVENTOR /6 e BY ATTORNEYS WITNESS Patented Oct. 14, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE RAZOR v Emanuel Bricher, Sugar City, Idaho Application July 3, 1940, Serial No. 343,893
4 Claims.
This invention relates to razors which may be foldedy or used in a plurality of positions.
One` of the objects of this invention is to provide a compact razor which is adapted to be folded in a minimum space when carried or stored.
Another object of this invention is to provide a razor adapted to be used either as a safety or straight type razor.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a guard for razor blades adapted to be secured to a support in a number of dierent positions.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawing.
Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention in folded position.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the invention in position for use as a straight type razor for shaving the users left side of the face.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the reverse side of Figure 2.
position as clearly illustrated in Figure 9, said end of the wall I3 constituting a stop I6. The arm I5 is rof a channel construction defining a substantially U-shaped configuration in cross section and includes a top I1 and sides I8. One of the sides is fashioned with a flange I9 disposed toward the adjacent side and spaced therefrom. The outer ends lof the sides are formed with aligned slots 28 each having a wall of a substantially C-shaped configuration defining arcuate seats through which extends a C-shaped head 2| formed on a bar 22. The head of the bar 22 is fashioned with a reduced portion extending transversely between the closely spaced ends of the Walls dening the slots and connecting the bar to the upper end of a razor blade guard 23 having mounted therein a safety razor blade 24 of an ordinary construction. When the head of the bar.22 is disposed through the slots 20, the
blade and guard are disposed transversely of the arm I5 and in position for permitting operation Figure 4 is a side elevation of the invention in position for use as a safety type razor.
Figure 5 is a top plan View of Figure 4. Figure 6 is a bottom plan view of Figure 5 and having the guard and blade removed.
Figure 7 is a rear view of the guard.
Figure 8 is a sectional view taken on the line 8-8 of Figure 3. Figure 9 is a sectional view taken on the line 9-9 of Figure 5.
Figure 10 is a fragmentary side elevation of the invention in a position for use as a straight type razor for shaving the users right side of the face.
Figure 11 is a sectional view taken on the line I I-II of Figure 10.
As illustrated in the drawing, I provide a member I0 which constitutes a handle for the razor when in use and a case for the same when being carried or stored. The member is provided with sides II formed with aligned finger notches I2 and which are connected together by a wall I3 extending partially around the outer edges of the sides I I to dene an open front. One corner of the member I0 has extending therethrough a pin I4 on which is pivoted the end of an arm II adapted to be disposed within the member when in closed position and outwardly thereof when in open position, the end of the wall I3 coacting with the pivoted end of the arm I4 to limit the movement of the arm when actuated to open of the razor as a safety razor. One of the slots 20 is of a greater diameter than the other and the bar is of a lengthwise tapered construction to permit the same to be wedged against the walls of the seats and thus secure the guard and blade in a fixed position to thev arm. When it is desired to use a razor as a straight type razor, the bar 22 is inserted longitudinally Within the arm and between the sides I8. In order to effect shaving of the left side of the face, the bar is disposed between the sides and in seated engagement against the inner faces of the ange I9 and its side I8 as clearly illustrated in Figure 7 of the drawing. In order to effect the shaving of the right side of the face, the bar is disposed between the opposite side I8 and in engagement with the outer edge of the flange I9 whereby to dispose one face of the guard in appressed relation with the outer face of the flange I0 as clearly illustrated in Figure 11.
'I'he sides of the arm are of a suicient resiliency to effect a tight t with the guard and blade when the bar is inserted longitudinally within the arm as heretofore described. When the blade and guard are inserted in the arm for shaving the left side of the face, the arm may be folded into` razor during shaving and as a case for the blade and arm when th latter is actuated to closed position thereby enabling the razor to be easily comprehends all construction within the scope of the appended claims. What is claimed is:
1. A razor adapted to be foidedwithin itself' comprising a handle, a channeled arm having a longitudinal flange bent inwardly from one of the sides of the arm, a hingle pin to permit the arm to be swung to open and closed positions. a guard having teeth in one edge, a Asecuring elewith one another on opposite sides of the U- l shaped arm, a iiange bent inwardly from one of said sides, a guard of a cross section contour to i'lt said end slots and dispose the guard at an angle to the U-shaped arm, said guard also adapted to be longitudinally received in the arm at planes parallel to or at a right angle to the side of the U-shaped arm.
3. A razor comprising a handle, a channeled arm provided with a slot in one of its ends, a hinge means connecting the arm at the end remote from the slots with the handle, said ar'm being adapted to swing within the handle and also to a position parallel to and longitudinally ofthe handle, a razor blade, a guard including means to receive the end oi the blade, a tapered rod secured on the opposite side of the guard from the said receiving means, said cross secment on its rear face adjacent its opposite edge,
ears formed on the ends of the guard and overlying the front face of the same, a razor blade having a heel and sharpened edge secured to the rguard by the ears and limiting the travel of sharpened edge toward the extremities of the teeth in overlying relation thereto, and means to secure the guard in two positions on the U- shaped arm by said securing element at right angles to one another.
2. A razor adapted to be disposed in a plurality of positions to a support comprising a substantially U-shaped arm having end slots registering tional contour of the rod and guard being of the same contour as said end slots and being adapted to be received therein in angular position relative 'to the channeled arm.
4. In a razor construction, a combined handle and blade case, a channel-shaped arm pivoted to said handle, a guard, a blade detachably carried by said guard, and bar means detachably connecting said guard to the end of said arm and positioning the guard transverselyon the end of the arm, said means operable for positioning said guard in two different positions lengthwise of the arm toperniit Shaving of either sides oi the face with one of said last-mentioned positions and permitting said blade and guard to be disposed in said case upon pivoting movement of said arm to a position within said case.
