Description

Sept. 2, 1941. s. M.' LEVINE MEDICINE CABINET Filed May 22, 1940 In ventor v famue/ Marcus Zev/he A iiomeys Patented Sept. 2, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MEDICINE CABINET Samuel Marcus Levine, Hollywood, Calif. Application May 22, 1940, Serial No. 336,677 1 Claim. (01. 312-175) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in medicine cabinets and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character comprising novel means for receiving and concealing a hot water bottle or bag and accessories.
' Another very important object of the invention is to provide a medicine cabinet of the aforementioned character wherein access to the hot water bottle or bag may be conveniently had when desired.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a medicine cabinet of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, highly efiicient and reliable in use, compact, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a medicine cabinet constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the slidable support for the hot water bottle and accessories in extended or open position.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the device.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises an open front box-like case I of wood, metal or other suitable material, said case being of any desired dimensions. The case I has mounted therein the usual shelves (not shown). Hingedly mounted at 2 on the front of the case I is a door which is designated generally by the reference numeral 3. Mounted on the free end of the door 3 is a handle 4. A suitable latch 5 is provided for releasably securing the door 3 in closed position.
The door 3 is of hollow construction for providing a chamber or compartment 6. The compartment 6 is open at the hinged end of the door 3. Mounted for lateral sliding movement in the rear portion of the compartment 6 is a vertical panel I of suitable material. 0n the upper end of the panel I is a flange 8 which is slidably engaged in a guide 9 which is provided therefor on the top of the door 3. A guide It! is provided on the bottom of the door 3 for the lower end of the panel 1. Mounted on one of the vertical edges of the panel I is a plate I I for closing the open end of the door 3. A handle I2 is provided on the closure plate ll.
A hook i3 is provided on the panel I for suspending a conventional hot water bottle ll thereon. Removably mounted on the panel I beneath the hot water bottle I4 is a drip cup IS.
The reference numeral l6 designates a hose for the hot water bottle M which i removably mounted on the panel I. A portion of the hose I6 is looped over an arcuate flanged shelf ll which is mounted on the upper portion of the panel 1. A lower portion of the hose it rests on a flanged shelf l8 which is secured on the panel I beneath the drip (up l5. Resilient clips or clamps I 9 constitute means for further securing the hose IS in position. Mounted on the panel I beneath the shelf I1 is a rack 20 for holding a plurality of nozzles 2| for the hose [6.
It is thought that the manner of using the device will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. With the panel I located in the compartment 6 said compartment is closed by the plate ll thus concealing the hot water bottle I and the accessories therefor. With the panel 1 in closed position the door 3 may be readily swung open on its hinges 2 when access to the case i is desired. When the hot water bottle I! is to be used the panel I is pulled out through the medium of the handle I2 to substantially the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing thus exposing said hot water bottle, the hose l6, etc. A suitable stop 22 is provided on one end of the flange 8 for engagement with the guide 9 for preventing the panel 'I from being pulled all the way out of the compartment 6.
It is believed that the many advantages of a medicine cabinet constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
A medicine cabinet of the character described comprising a case, a door hingedly mounted at one end on the case for swinging movement in a horizontal plane, said door having a compartment therein open at the hinged end of the door, guides mounted on the top and bottom walls of the compartment, a vertical panel mounted for lateral sliding movement in the compartment and adapted to be pulled outwardly therefrom at the open end thereof, a flange on the. upper end of said panel slidably engaged with the uppermost guide, the lower end portion of the panel being slidably engaged with the lowermost guide, a
closure for the compartment on one of the ver-,
tical edges of the panel, and article supporting means mounted on said panel.
