Patented Sept. 2, 1941 Unito sfr GARMET 4sraeroismo. VAND DRYING FRAMEY J ane VanCleve Dime/low, New York, N. Y. u Application January 6, 1940, serial No. 312,641
3 Claims. (Cl. 223-469) provide a device of the character specied which includes a pair of correspondingly-shaped frame members .whose joint outline or contour corresponds to the shape of the garment to. be
treated.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a device of the character specified which includes a pair of similarly-shaped frame members which are movable relative to each other and capable of adjustment in order Yto increase or vary either the waist measurement or the hip measurement separately, or to vary or change both the hip and waist measurements in accordance with the size of the garment to be stretched and dried.
Further, said invention yhas for its object to provide a device of the character specified which includes two similarly-,shaped frame members which are so connected at their upper and lower ends that the frame members may be adjusted or partially rotated, either at their upper or lower ends, in the arc of a circle having its pivotal point at the opposite ends of said frame members, and then be severally secured to adjusted positions.
Other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out hereinafter.
To the attainment of the aforesaid objects and ends my invention consists in the novel features of construction, and in the combination, connection and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and then pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a face view showing one form of stretching and drying frame constructed according to and embodyngmysaidinvention; the parts being shown in full lines in normal or retracted position, and in broken lines in uniformly eX- tended position;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail face View showing the lower corresponding ends of the frame members, and the means for connecting and securing the same ,to adjusted positions;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged horizontal section on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2;
.. Fig. 4 is a face view showing the frame members spread apart at their upper ends to provide forY an increased waistmeasurement only, and. u
V Fig. 5 is a facev View similar to Fig. 4, showing only the lower ends of the frame membersy spread apart to provide for an increasedhip` measurement. Y
; In said drawing Indesignates the device comprising a pair of flat, similarly-shaped open work frame members II, II2L having-straight registering, vertical inneredges I2, |25, and reverselycurvedI outerk edges I3,A I3a which correspond in general to the waist and hip contours of the female gure. The Vsaid frame members are preferably made of laminated wood and painted or otherwise suitably treated to render thesame impervious to moisture.
I5, I5,a denote nat, longitudinal link members uniting the frame members II, II2L vat their upper and lower ends. The said link members are preferably ,formed of metal, and each comprises a solid portion I6, and a longitudinallyslottedv portion I6@ extending therefrom. The solid portion I6 is pivotally xed adjacent the inner end ofits slotted portion ,Ilia` to the lframe member llbya bolt I8 and nut I9, and adjacent theeend of its Ysolid portion said link is provided with a short, curved slot 20 arranged trans-v versely of the link member through which eX- tends a bolt 2I secured in the frame member II. The bolt 2l is provided with a wing nut 22, and the cooperating frame member IIa is provided with a similar bolt Zie which passes through the slotted portion I6a of the link member I5 and is provided with a wing nut 22a. The said bolts 2| and 2Ia serve to maintain the lower ends of the frame members II, IIa adjustably secured together.
The upper ends of the frame members II, IIa are secured together by a link construction similar to that above described, except that the positions of the parts are reversed, i. e. the solid portion Ilia of the link I5 is pivotally fixed to the frame member IIa, and the slotted portion I6a is adjustably secured to the frame member Il.
To facilitate the spreading apart of the upper ends of the frame members relative to the lower ends thereof, or vice versa, the said frame members have their inner contiguous upper and lower corners rounded at 24 to permit of a limited circular movement of the frame members without causing any undue binding or straining of the parts.
The upper, outer corner of each frame member Il, Ila is provided with an aperture in which is disposed a ring 25, to facilitate the hanging of the frame with the garment thereon.
The operation of my device will be largely obvious from the foregoing description. It should be noted, however, that an important feature of the construction of the frame is that it permits of the movement of the two frame members with their inner, Vertical edges in parallelism, and it also permits either the upper or lower ends of the frame members to be spread apart radially relative to the opposite ends in order to adapt the frame to garments having a proportionately larger waist measurement or a proportionately larger hip measurement without disturbing the adjustment of the other ends of the frame members.
Having thus described my said invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A device of the character described comprising a pair of closely-associated at frame members having straight, registering inner edges and reversely-curved outer edges, and means arranged wholly within the outlines of said frame members for maintaining said frame members operatively associated; said means includingrflat link members arranged adjacent the upper and lower edges of said associated frame members; each of said link members including a solid intermediate portion and slotted end portions extending therefrom, one of said link members being pivotally secured at its intermediate portion to one of said frame members with one of its slotted end portions extending over the other of said frame members, and the other of said link members having its intermediate portion pivotally secured to said last-named frame member and one of its slotted ends extending over said first-named frame member to permit of either end of either frame member to be partially rotated about the pivotal connection at the other end thereof whereby to vary the transverse dimension of the device at either end Without change of dimension at the other end, and clamping screws on each of said frame members severally engaging with the slotted ends of said link members for securing the same in position and said frame members in adjusted relation.
2. A device of the character described comprising a pair of closely-associated iiat frame members having conforming vertical inner edges and reversely-curved outer edges corresponding generally to the contour of the waist and hips of the female figure, and means arranged wholly Within the outline of said frame members for maintaining said frame members in parallelism and operatively associated; said means including flat link members arranged adjacent the upper and lower edges of said associated frame members; said link members each including a solid intermediate portion, a longitudinally-slotted end portion, and a transversely-slotted end portion, and one of said link members having its intermediate portion pivotally xed to its respective frame member and its longitudinally-slotted end portion extending over the other of said frame members, and the other of said link members having its intermediate portion secured to said last-named frame member and its longitudinally slotted end portion extending over said rst-named frame member to permit of either end of said frame members to be partially rotated about the pivotal connection at the other end thereof whereby to vary the transverse dimension of the device at either end without change of dimension at the other end, and clamping screws fixed in said frames and severally engaging the slotted end portions of said link members for permitting the adjustment of either pair of frame ends independently of the other pair of frame ends.
3. A device of the character described comprising a pair of closely-associated corresponding1y shaped frame members having conforming adjacent edges and reversely-curved opposite edges, and connecting means for securing said frame members in adjusted relation, said connecting means each including a link member pivotally secured intermediate its ends to one end of one of said frame members by a pivot having xed position on said frame member, said link member having rotary movement only on said pivot and having one of its ends extending over the other of said frame members, and means on said frame members severally engaging the opposite ends of said link members for securing said frame members to adjusted position.
