7 Claims. (01. 4010') This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a galley identification holding device and a blank for the manufacturing thereof.

More specifically the invention proposes a galley identification device which is formed from one sheet of metal bent into a certain shape so as to have several operative portions. One of these portions comprises a jaw device for gripping the side wall of the galley tank and an other one of these portions comprises an arm for engaging against the type slugs in the galley to hold the type slugs in position.

Still further the invention proposes to so construct the metal body that it is of a rigid shape capable of securely holding the type in position.

Still further the invention contemplates providing the body with several openings to facilitate the fingers gripping the body so that it may be easily removed.

Another object of the invention resides in a novel construction of the body to adapt it to hold a slug or individual pieces of type to identify the galley.

Still further an arrangement is proposed wherebythe operative length of the body may be extended to extend across more than one column of type in the galley when this is required.

Still further the invention proposes the construction of a device as mentioned which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

The galley identification holding device in accordance with this invention includes a sheet metal body of substantially U-shape, with its arms indicated by reference numerals Iii and II, and its joining bottom wall by numeral i2. The

' bottom I2 is formed with an opening Iii which extends substantially from end to end. Lug portions I4 are bent upwards from the end portions of the opening l3 and extend upwards to approximately the top edges of the arms l9 and i I. The arms i0 and II are formed with small cutouts l5 at the sides extended inwards from the bottom edges thereof forming finger grips by which the body may readily be gripped when it is desired to remove the device from a galley.

The identification device is provided with an integral jaw gripping portion adapted to grip the side wall 16* of a galley tray IS. The gripping device is characterized by a jaw portion IT which extends laterally from one of the arms of the U- shaped body, more specifically from the arm 19. This jaw portion extends substantially at right angles across the rear end of the other arm ll of the U-shaped body. Its outer end is formed with a rearwardly turned edge portion ll which is adapted to engage the inner face of the wall I6 of the galley to grip the wall as hereinafter more fully explained. An inverted U-shaped portion l8 continues from the rear end of the bottom wall 12 of the U-shaped body. More specifically this U-shaped portion I8 has a front arm I8 whichis connected at its bottom edge with the rear end of the bottom wall l2 of said U- shaped body. The arm I8 extends upwards and connects with a downwardly extending arm I8 These arms I8 and l8 sandwich the jaw portion l1 forming a complementary jaw portion for engaging the other face of the side wall H5 of the galley.

In Fig. 1 the identification device is shown mounted on the galley. It should be noted that it is engaged on the side wall H5 of the galley inv such a fashion that the jaw portion ll extends along the inner face of the wall lfi and so that the complementary jaw portion l8 engages over The arm 18 of the jaw portion 18 engages the outer face of the wall l6 and cooperates with the arm I! for firmly holding the identification device in position. The

vice may be forced forwardsor rearwards along the wall l6 to any desired position. Consequently it may be placed so that the arm I engages against the top of a galley of type mounted in the galley tray. It serves to hold the galley of type in position. An identification slug, or type it may be placed between the arms l0 and H and through the opening E3 to identify the galley of type.

In Fig. a blank has been illustrated which is used for constructing the identification device. This blank comprises a rectangular sheet of metal which has been stamped with certain openings, and certain slots and which thereafter may be bent in a certain way to produce the identification device. The blank shown in Fig. 5 has a side portion III, another side portion H and an opening it between these side portions; The blank has areas i2 at the ends ofthe opening i3 which will form the bottom wall of the U-shaped body when the identification device is formed. Lugs l4, extend inwards from the inner ends of the wall portions i2. The opening I3 has several semi-circular cutout portions I5 along its sides. A portion i1 continues from one of the ends of the arm portion it for forming the jaw ll of the device. The blank shown in Fig. 5 may be formed into In Figs. 6 to 8 inclusive, 2. modified form of the invention has been disclosed which distinguishes from the prior form in the provision of a U- shaped slide 28 which is set into the U-shaped body of the holder. This slide 29 has an opening 2! in its bottom wall. The side walls of the slide 20 are indicated by reference numerals 23 and 29 The bottom wall is indicated by numeral 2G This bottom wall 20 is located only at the front end of the U-shaped slide. A lug portion 22 is bent upwards from the inner end of the bottom wall 29 and is adapted to engage against the front face of the lug portion M when the slide 20 is in its retracted position as illustrated in Fig. 6.

The bottom edge portions of the side arms Ill and'l i of the U-shaped body are formed with outwardly bulged portions 21 forming grooves on the inner faces thereof. The identification holding device in accordance with this form of the invention is used substantially in the same way as the prior form. It is mounted upon one of the side walls of the galley and may be moved forwards and rearwards along this wall as desired. However, when it is necessary to extend the length of the holding device so as to extend over extra longslug or over two rows of slugs in the galley, it is merely necessary to grip the U-shaped slide 20 and move it to an extended position as desired. It is shown partially extended in Fig. '7. The slide 20 may be removed from the U-shaped body of the holding device by first removing the joiner 2 3. Then the slide 23 may be pulled out frontwards from the end of the body.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as'defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is: 1. A galley identification holding device, com

prising a sheet metal body of substantially U-.

shape having its bottom formed with an opening extending to a short distance of the ends thereof, one of the ends of the arms of said U-shape continuing into a laterally extending jaw portion for engaging one face of the side wall of av galley tray, and the bottom of said Ushape continuing into an inverted U-shaped portion the arms of which straddle said jaw portion forming a complementary jaw portion for engaging the other face of the side wall of said galley tray.

2. A galley identification holding device, comprising a sheet metal body of substantially U- shape having its bottom formed with an opening extending to a short distance of the ends thereof, one of the ends of the arms of said U-shape continuing into a laterally extending jaw portion for engaging one face of the side wall of a galley tray, the bottom of said U-shape continuing into an inverted U-shaped portion the arms of which straddle said jaw portion forming a complementary jaw portion for engaging the other face of the side wall of said galleytray, and end lugs upon the ends of the opening in the bottom of said U-shape body and extending upwards to substantially the top edge of theside arms of the body.

A galley identification holding device, comprising a sheet metal body of substantially U- shape having its bottom formed with an opening extending to a short distance of the ends thereof, one of the ends of the arms of said U-shape continuing into a' laterally extending jaw portion for engaging one'face. of the side wall of a galley tray, and the bottom of said U-shape continuing into an inverted u-sh'a'ped portion the'arm's of openings formed in the side armsiof said 'U-' shape having its bottom formed with an opening extending to a short distance of the ends thereof, one of the ends of the arms of said U-shape continuing into a laterally extending jaw portion for engaging one face of the side wall of a galley tray, and the bottom of said U-shape continuing into an inverted U-shaped portion the arms of which straddle said jaw portion forming a complementary jaw portion for engaging the other face of the side wall of said galley tray, said first mentioned jaw having its outer end turned inwards to facilitate the gripping operation thereof.

A gallery identification holding device, comprising a sheet metal body of substantially U- shape having its bottom formed with an opening extending to a short distance of the ends thereof, one of the ends of the arms of said U-shape continuing into a laterally extending jaw portion for engaging one face of the side wall of a galley tray, the bottom of said U-shape continuing into an inverted U-shaped portion the arms of which straddle said jaw portion forming a complementary jaw portion for engaging the other face of the side wall of said galley tray, a U-shaped slide set into said U-shape body and having an open bottom through which said lugs project, and removable joiner connecting the side arms of said slide.

A galley identification holding device, comprising a sheet metal body of substantially U- shape having its bottom formed with an opening extending to a short distance of the ends thereof, one of the ends of the arms of said U-shape continuing into a laterally extending jaw portion for engaging one face of the side Wall of a galley tray,

the bottom of said U-shape continuing into an inverted U-shaped portion the arms of which straddle said jaw portion forming a complementary jaw portion for engaging the other face of the side wall of said galley tray, a U-shapecl slide set into said U-shape body and having an open bottom through which said lugs project, andremovable joiner connecting the side arms of said slide, the bottom edge portions of the side arms of said body and slide being provided with a projecting portion forming a slide connection be tween these parts,

7. A galley identification holding device, comprising a sheet metal body of substantially U- shape having its bottom formed with an opening extending to a short distance of the ends thereof, one of the ends of the arms of said U-shape continuing into a laterally extending jaw portion for engaging one face of the side wall of a galley tray, the bottom of said U-shape continuing into an inverted U-shaped portion the arms of which straddle said jaw portion forming a complementary jaw portion for engaging the other face of the side wall of said galley tray, a U-shaped slide set into said U-shape body and having an open bottom through which said lugs project, and removable joiner connecting the side arms of said slide, and comprising a strip of material having tongue portions along its edges and engaging complementary grooves formedupn the inner sides of the side arms of said U-shaped body.
