3 Claims.
This invention relates to dispensing attachments for receptacles particularly adapted for dispensing viscid liquids, such as ketchup.
One object of the invention is to provide a device of this character having a dispensing cylinder and piston adapted to facilitate dispensing pre-determined quantities of viscid liquid from a receptacle.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character having a combined closure and spout seal for the dispensing cylinder.
A'further object is to provide a screw cap for connecting the dispensing cylinder to the receptacle and suspending the cylinder therein so as to be readily filled from the receptacle.
A still further object is to provide apparatus of this character which will be formed of a few strong, simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture, and which will not easilyget out of order.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Figure l is a side elevation, with parts broken away, and illustrates the device in closed position and associated with a bottle.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of the device in dispensing position.
Figure 3 is a vertical section of a modified form of the invention, in closed position and applied to a bottle.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the adapter collar to be locked to a bottle for threadedly receiving the cap of the form of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view taken approximately on line 5-'-5 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing in detail and particularly to the form of Figures 1 and 2, the reference numeral l designates a tubular dispensing cylinder, open at its lower end and primarily adapted to dispense viscid liquid from an integral spout ll disposed laterally of and below its reduced upper end. The upper end is formed with a guide sleeve I2 having a chamber l3 at its upper end, which houses packing material l4 for a piston rod i5 that is slidably mounted in the sleeve and of greater length than the cylinder l0,

On theend of the rod [5 remote from the piston i6, a knob i8 ismounted and immediately below the knob, a bell-shaped cap 19 is mounted on the rod and is provided with a flared peripheral edge 2']. The flared edge 2%], when the rod I5 is pushed to extend into the cylinder Ill, overlies and seals the mouth of the spout I l while the cap houses the reduced end of the cylinder it, as shown in Figure l.
For application of the preferred form of the invention to the bottle A, or the like, a screw cap 21 is secured to the cylinder l0 intermediate its ends, and extends along the exterior wall of the cylinder l0, terminating short of the lower end The wall of the cap 2| is pressed to form screw threads 22 for engagement with the threaded neck of the bottle A, to suspend the lower open end of the cylinder H3 within the neck of the bottle.
In operation, the knob 18 is pushed to project the piston it beyond the lower open end of the cylinder Hi, as shown in Figure 1, to permit viscid liquid, such as ketchup, contained within the bottle A to flow into the cylinder when the bottle is inverted, as shown in Figure 2. The knob 18 is then pulled outwardly to cause the piston It to enter the lower end of the cylinder Ill and eXpel a predetermined quantity of the contents of the cylinder from the spout II, the quantity being regulated by the distance the piston is moved by a pull exerted on the rod I5, as will be apparent upon inspection of Figure 2.
A modified form of the invention shown in Figures 3 to 5 inclusive is suitable for use in connection with a bottle 23 having a bead 24 formed on its neck. A closure cap 25 for the bottle 23 is provided with a depending peripheral skirt 26 pressed to form interior threads 21. A hollow guide member 28 formed on the central portion of the cap 25 is provided with an oval opening 29 and provides a chamber 30 for housing packing material 3| for a piston rod 32, that is oval in cross section to fit the guide opening 29 t for slidable movement therethrough.
A spout 33 is disposed on the cap 25 and inclines upwardly and outwardly from the cap. A flattened knob like handle 34 having depressions 35 to accommodate the grip of the fingers of the operator thereon is mounted on the outer end of the piston rod which extends above the cap 25.
Formed on and extending outwardly and at a downward inclination from adjacent the outer end of the piston rod 32 is an arm 36 having a recessed closure lid 31 formed thereon, for the spout 33, and the lid has a disk gasket 38 mounted in the recess thereof to provide a leakproof connection with the spout, when the piston rod is in its lowermost position of Figure 3. r A piston 39 and brace arms 40 identical to th piston I6 and brace arms shown in Figure 1 are carried by the piston rod 32. A tubular tapered collar like adapter 4| formed of spring material is provided with a plurality of longitudinal splits 42 uniformly spaced throughout the wall thereof to permit the adapter to expand when mounted on the neck of the bottle 23, and grip the neck immediately below the bead 24 through the spring tendency of the adapter. The adapter 4| is provided with exterior threads 43 adapted to threadedly engage the interior threads of the skirt to secure the'cap on the bottle 23 and compress'a ring gasket 44 between the top of the bottle 23 and the cap 25.
A circumferential knurled flange 45 is formed on and extends outwardly from the lower end of the adapter. When the adapter is gripped by the operator while the cap 25 is being applied, relative rotation of the adapter 4| is prevented on the neck of the bottle 23. The piston rod 32 suspends the piston 39 a material distance below the cap to lift the contents of the bottle 23 to be expelled from the spout 33.
From the above description it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further explanation.
What is claimed is:
1. A dispensing attachment for a bottle having a neck, and'said device comprising a cap for threaded association with the neck, an outlet spout formed on and rising from the cap at an outward inclination, a piston rod mounted for slidable movement through the cap for disposal within the bottle, an arm formed on the outer end portion of the rod and extending at an outward and downward inclination therefrom, a lid for closing the spout and formed on the outer end of the arm, a knob like handle formed on the outer end of the rod, and a piston secured to the inner end of the rod to force the contents of the bottle through the neck for disposal through the outlet spout.
2. A dispensing attachment for a bottle having a neck, and said device comprising a cap for threaded association with the neck, an outlet spoutformed on and rising from the cap at an outward inclination, a, piston rod mounted for slidable movement through the cap for disposal within the bottle, hollow guiding means formed on the cap and having an oval shaped opening therein for passage of the rod therethrough,
. packing within the guiding means and surrounding the rod, said rod being oval shape in cross section to fit said opening to prevent rotation of 7 said rod, an arm formed on the outer end portion of the rod and extending at an outward and downward inclination therefrom, a recessed lid for closing the spout and formed on the outer end of the arm, a gasket in the recess of the lid to provide a leakproof connection with the spout, and a piston secured to the inner end of the rod to force the contentsof the latter through the neck for disposal through the outlet spout.
3. A dispensing attachment for a bottle having a neck with an exterior annular bead at the outer end thereof, and said device comprising a cap including a threaded skirt, a resilient collar like member for threadedly receiving the skirt and adapted to be sleeved on the neck with its upper end abutting the bead, said collar like member being split longitudinally to allow expansion thereof about the head for application to the neck and to set up a gripping engagement therewith for cooperation with the bead to prevent casual removal of said member from the neck, an outlet spout formed on and rising from the cap at an outward inclination, a handled piston rod mounted for slidable movementthrough the cap for disposal within the bottle, a lid for closing the outlet spout and carried by the rod, and a piston secured to the inner end of the rod to force the contents of the bottle through the neck for disposal through the outlet spout.
