MATCH-LIGHTING ATTACHMENT TO HATS, 8w.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 224,878, dated February 24, 1880.

.Toall whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANKLIN L. CLARK, of Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and .State of Pennsylvania, have invented'certain new and useful Improvements in Match-Lightin g Attachments to Hats, 8tc.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and
to the letters of reference marked thereon,
which form a part of thisspecitication.
This invention relates to an improved attachment forhats, caps, and other. like arti- ,cles; and it consists in the construct-ion and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, and pointed out by the claim.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 2 is abottom View,
in lighting a match for the purpose of igniting a cigar, cigarette, or pipe in the open air, and in some instances it is impossible. By my arrangement of providing a piece of roughened material upon the inside of a hatthe match may be lighted upon it and the wind kept off by the sides of the hat, thereby allowing the cigar, 850., to be ignited without further trouble.
The device is very simple in arrangement, but it provides a means that has long been needed of igniting the articles mentioned, and one that is always ready for use and not liable to get out of repair.
