Fig. 14 is an elevation of the standard or up right folded; and f Y Fig. 15 .is an enlarged `section of the hinge joint or connection between the sections of the standard.
Referring to the drawings, the costumer comprises a base made up of two sections consisting of a bottom section 2| and a top section 22 simulating two opposed animals arranged back to back and shown in the form of elephants 23 cut from sections of composite board, ply wood, veneer wood or other suitable material. Connecting VVthe two opposed animals facing in opposite directions in a unitary piece is an: intermediate, narrow, connecting portionA or section 24 having a recess 25at thebottom and a recess 26 at the top. vExtending from the center and bottom edge of .the recess 26- is a vertical slot 21 which is provided in the bottom section 2|. The top section is correspondingly formed except-that the slot 28 extends vertically and upwardly from the center of the bottom recess 25 so that the sec-.
tion 22Awil1 accommodate the 4lower portion of the wall 24 of the section 2| in the slot 28 while the upper portion of the wall 424 of vthesection 22 willvbev accommodated in the slot 21 when the sections arejoined by moving them relatively one over the other in sliding telescopic fashion normalto each other so as to form a cross-shaped piece. Each section 2| and 22 is provided with a hole 29 adjacent `its slot.
Astandard 30 forms an upright for the costurner and is of Aa foldable or collapsible -struc-V ture including a lower section 3| and an upper section 32 which may be of rectangular or other cross section. .These sections have ytheir ends abutting as shown at 33 :and are joined by oppositely disposed hinges 34fsecured by screws 35 so that by removing the screws of one hinge leaf, the sections` may be folded on eachother as shown in Fig. 14.. of the drawings. Obviously a rigid `plate may be substitutedfor one 'hinge or any other desired form .of .connection-between the standard-v sections provided. The lower end of the standard or section 3| is provided with slots 36 and 31 runninglong-itudinally between opposite sides and intersecting each other atvright angles. Holes 38v are provided at one side and near .the upper end of the slot 131 and'near 'the lower. end of the slot -35 adapted to take bolts l4|) when these slotted ends are fitted over the sections 2| and 22 asshown -in Figs. 1-4, inclusive, of
the'drawingsK-so .as rto pass through the holes 29 and rigidlysecure the base sections to the standard or vice versa andperpe'ndicul'arly to each other to` form'a'substantial support for "the costumer. Cap nuts 4|-are applied to ,the ends'of the lbolts to clamp the parts in position.
Corresponding, but slightly longer intersecting slots 42 and 43 are provided in the upper ends of the-'upper section 32 of theV standard with holes 44 at each side of one slot shown as the slot 42 and parallel to each other to take similar bolts 40 for clamping the upper or suspension section of per portion 46 formed in the same manner as the sections 2| and 22 but shown simulating other animals such as monkeys, as shown at 41 so that the heads 48 form hat racks and the tails 49 form hooks while the bodies of the animals are connected by the fore and hind legs, portions thereof constituting parts of narrow connecting portions 5I) between the tWo animals Which, in this instance, are disposed to face each other with their legs outstretched and their paws together. The section 45 is provided with an upper slot vertically and centrally as indicated at 5| and the section 46 is provided with a corresponding bottom slot 52 whereby these sections may be telescopically fitted one over the other, the same as the base forming sections with the ends of the slots limiting the relative displacement or sliding movement of one section on the other also the same as with the base sections and withv the ends of the slots in contact. The section 46 is pro-` vided with two holes 53 to register With the holes 44 and the section 46 is provided with a top extension 54 on the central section or connecting .portion 50 also representing an animal and shown as a monkey. The bottom section 45 has a slot 55 communicating with and intersecting the slot I severing the fore legs from the central section 50 and a corresponding slot 56 is provided in the section 46 separating the hind legs from the corresponding connecting or central section 55 thereof and intersecting or communicating with i the slot 52. When the sections and 46 are assembled in the manner described, they are slid down into the intersecting slots 42 and 43 which are disposed at right angles to each other in the upper end of the section 32 of the standard and connected by the bolts 40 disposed through the registering holes 44 and 53 to rigidly connect these parts. The bolts prevent the displacement of the upper section 46 and the lower section 45 is held by the interlocking engagement withthe section 46 from upward displacement. However, the parts may be readily disconnected as well as set up for use and when disassembled, all of the sections 2l, 22, 45 and 46 being nat, may be compactly stored together with the foldable or collapsible standard forming the upright portion of the costumer.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into ciect, this is capable of variation and modication without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modiiications as come Within the scope of the appended claims.
