Description
"Z. T. PARKER.
Churn-Power;
Patented Feb. I7, 1880.
wivve/ssess: Zg 6M0] 02, 4M W L Qv UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ZAOHARIAH T. PARKER, OF NEVADA, MISSOURI.
CHURN-POWER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 224,602, dated February 17, 1880. A
Application filed December 17, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ZAGHARIAH '1. PARKER, of Nevada, in the county of Vernon and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Churn-Powers; and I 1 do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to I which it appertains tomake and use the same,
reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a side view. Fig. 2is a top view;
, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line as w,
I Fig. 2. I 5
I are denoted by like letters of reference.
Corresponding parts in the several figures This invention relates to an improved churnoperating mechanism, the construction of which will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the annexed drawin 's, A A represent two uprights, fixed in a base, B, and supporting cross-pieces (J C, in which bearings are formed for the main operating-shaft D. The
latter is provided with a crank, E, and a drivewheel, F, from which motion iscommunicated through a belt, G, to admin or pulley, H, upon a shaft, 1, having its hearings in the cross-pieces 0 0, near the front end of the latter.
J is a cover, hinged to the front ends of the cross-pieces O O, and secured to the latter by hooksK K. The said cover is provided with I a spindle, L, upon which is join-baled a lever,
M, the front end of which is connected by a pitman, N, with a crank, 0, upon shaft I. The rear end of leverM is provided with a vertical slot or mortise, P, to receive the upper end of the dasher-staff Q, which is securedin said mortise by a transverse pin, R, adjusted in one of a series of perforations, S S.
The churn T rests upon the base B, and is secured by a pivoted clamp, U, which is made adjustable by a pin, V, fitting in'one of a se ries of perforations in the base B.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed, the
operation of my invention willbe readily understood.
When the churning is completed the pin R is removed, thus enabling the cover carrying. the operating mechanism to be thrown back, thereby enabling the cover and churn-dasher to be readily removed.
1 am aware of .the patent to Appleton, No. 21,176, August 17, 1858, in which a somewhat similar arrangement of levers is shown. This,
therefore, I -do not claim. In my invention,
by raising the hinged cover the entire operating mechanism may be thrown out of the way of the churn, which is, therefore, easily accessible. The said cover also protects the band-wheels and belt from displacement and injury.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The herein-described improved churn-open ating mechanism, consisting of the base B, having uprights A A, cross-pieces G O, crankshafts D E I O, hinged cover J, having lever M, pitman N, and belt G, all combined, arranged, and operating substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto at'fixed my signature in presence of twowitnesses. I
ZAGHARIAH T. PARKER.
Witnesses:
JONATHAN R, SUMNER, J OHIEL H. RINEHART.
