This invention relates to bed pan urinals particularly adapted for men.

One object of this invention is to provide a means whereby a patient confined to bed may alternately evacuate the bowels and urinate, thereby preventing withholding either while seated on the bed pan.

Another object of the invention is to provide a urinal attachment to bed pans of a particular design capable of longitudinal adjustment to suit the individual patient and clamping means to insure the adjustment of the urinal.

A further object of the invention is to provide a detachably connected urinal which may easily be sterilized and applied after its periodical use.

A still further object of the invention is to provide apparatus of the above described character which will be formed of a few strong simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture and which will not easily get out of order.

With the above and other objects in View, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims and without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention shown associated with a bed pan.

Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, designates a bed pan having a rectangular opening within the top wall thereof disposed to extend from the forward end wall rearwardly past the transverse median line of the bed pan, and II a urinal detachably connected to the bed pan l0 extended laterally across the rectangular opening.

A plate l2, rectangular in plan, is rolled on itself at one of the sides thereof to form a tubular guide member I3 disposed to underlie the plate l2. An elongated longitudinally channeled strip M of sheet metal or the like is secured to the under side of the plate I2, intermediate of and parallel in relation to the sides of the plate I 2. The channel strip upon its application to the plate l2 provides a second guide member. A pair of U-shaped members 5 and J6 preferably formed of wire each comprise arm portions H and I8 and an integral connecting base portion l9 and 20. The arm portions are bent laterally intermediate of their length to form jaw portions 2| and 22 disposed at an angle to the arm portions as best shown in Figure 2 of the drawing.

The free extremities of the arm portions l1 and I8 of the members l5 and I6 are extended, one extremity of each, into the channel of the strip l4 and into the longitudinal bore of the guide member I3. The arm portions I1 and I8 of the members I5 and I6 are slidably associated with and frictionally held within the guide members l3 and M for adjustment of the jaw portions 2| and 22 to and away from one another.

The plate I2 is placed laterally on the bed pan Ill across the rectangular opening to dispose the arm portions I1 and 18 to rest on the top wall ,of the bed pan It] to dispose the jaw portions 2| and 22 to depend adjacent the side walls of the bed pan l0. Upon movement of the jaw portions 2| and 22 toward one another, the sides of the bed pan are gripped between the jaw portions 2| and 22 at successive points throughout the length of the bed pan III for longitudinal adjustment of the plate l2 at any desired location above the rectangular opening in the bed pan l0.

A conical urinal tube 23 is fixed to and extends through the plate l2 at an inclination toward the forward end of the bed pan ID as shown in Figure 1, and terminates below the plate l2 in an elbow 24 directed downwardly and adjacent the bottom of the bed pan ID as more clearly shown in Figure 2. For application the urinal H is placed on the top wall of the bed pan H) as shown in Figure 1 and is adjusted longitudinally thereon, to suit the requirements of the individual patient, and is clamped at the longitudinal adjustment by the engagement of the jaw portions 2| and 22 on the side walls of the bed pan l0.

What I claim is:

1. A urinal for bed pans comprising a rectangular plate having parallel spaced longitudinally disposed tubular guides, a pair of U-shaped members slidably mounted within the guides at respective ends of the plate, said members bent laterally providing clamping jaws on the outer ends of the members, and a tubular means conducting urine through the plate.

2. A urinal attachment for bed pans comprising a plate, a pair of jaw members being carried by opposite ends'of the plate and adapted :for adjustment to and away from one another, and a conical urine tube extending through the plate at an angle having an inclination toward one side of the plate and terminating below the plate at substantially right angles to the plate.

3. A device of the character described comprising a plate having longitudinal guides, a pair of supporting U-shaped members frictionally received within said guides disposed at opposite ends of the plate, said members bent adjacent the base thereof forming gripping jaws adapted to travel to and away from one an-. other, and a flared urine conducting means extending through said plate.

4. A urinal for attachment for a bed pan comprising a rectangular plate of sheet material being rolled at one longitudinal edge forming a tubular guide and having an opening, a longitudinally grooved strip underlying and secured to the plate in parallel spaced relation to the rolled edge forming a second guide, a pair of substantially U-shaped clamp members slidably associated with the ends of the plate and frictionally received within the guide members at opposite ends of the plate, said clamp members being bent laterally. adjacent the base portion thereof forming gripping jaws slidably adjusted to and away from one another, and a conical urinal tube extending through the opening plate and terminating in an elbow depending and directed from the plate.
