LIGHT ATTACHMENT FOR ELECTRIC RAZORS Filed Jan. 27, 1938 lhctor J Molnar INVENTOR A TTORNEY Patented May 27, 1941 UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE LIGHT ATTACHMENT FOR ELECTRIC RAZOBS Victor J. Molnar, Youngstown, Ohio Application January 27, 1938, Serial No. 187,195
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a light attachment for electric razors.
The principal object of this invention is the provision of a light attachment forelectric razors comprising a replacement section of a. standard electric razor.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a light attachment for electric razors, the wiring connections for the light being formed as a part of the replacement section.
The light attachment for electric razors shown and described herein has been designed in the form of an accessory and replacement part for standard electric razors, or for the application to new razors at the point of manufacture. The light attachment, when attached to an ordinary electric razor, will provide adequate illumination of the area being shaved, and is so formed as to be light in weight and pleasing in appearance. The light attachment and replacement unit is designed to replace the usual bottom lid portion of an electric razor and so designed that when in use the razor is started with the light attachment on the bottom thereof and then turned over and used for shaving with the light attachment on top.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device attached to an electric razor.
Figure 2 is a top view of the device with parts broken away showing the interior arrangement.
Figure 3 is a front end elevation of the device showing the electrical connections for the light.
By referring to the drawing, and Figure 1 in particular, it will be seen that the light attachment comprises a replacement lid and light housing I, preferably formed of molded plastic, and
is shown attached to an electric razor 2 having a shearing head 3 and an electric connection plug 4. The electric connection plug 4 is provided with a pair of receptacles adapted to receive a pair of prongs 5 which constitute the electrical connections for the razor. The light attachment and replacement ,part has provided therein an electric bulb socket 6 which in turn has electrical connections I and 8. These elecment portion and are guided to the proper position by means of flanges ll formed on the replacement section. In order that adequate light may be provided, a tubular shaped bulb I2 is used and extends forwardly to a point just within.
an opening I3 in the light housing. This light housing may be lined with any suitable reflecting material.
It will be seen that the usual openings are provided in this replacement unit so that it may be bolted to the electric razor in the same manner as the lid portion it replaces. It is also obvious that due to its novel construction, the electrical connections necessary for lighting the bulb l2 are established as soon as the replacement unit is placed upon an electric razor. The clips 9 and I0 contact the prongs 5 of the razor and establish satisfactory connections.
The location of these clips 9 and ID does not interfere with the insertion of the plug 4 as they are thin and placed in the rear of the opening adapted to receive the plug 4.
What I claim is:
1. A light attachment for electric razors adapted to illuminate the area being shaved and comprising a replacement lid section aflixed to the said razor, th said replacement lid section having a light housing formed as a part thereof, an electric socket suitably positioned within said housing and adapted to receive a bulb, together with electrical connections comprising metal strips having clips formed on the extremities thereof and depending from the said replacement section and adapted to engage the electrical connection prongs of the said razor, flanges formed on the said replacement section adapted to engage portions of the said razor so as to definitely locate the said metal strips in relation to the electrical connection prongs of the razor.
2. An attachment for an electric razor having an elongated body with one side open and with a cutter at one end and connector prongs at the other end, said attachment comprising a cover member adapted to be secured to the body to close the open side, light means carried by said cover member to illuminate an area adjacent the cutter, clips carried by said cover member and projecting therefrom for detachable engagement with said prongs, and electric connections in the cover member from said clips to the light means.
