Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
.LOUIS A. EmER," OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
OVEN-SLIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 224,255, dated February 3, 1880.
Application filed December 19,1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS A. WEINER, of Boston, in the county of Sufi'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain newand useful lmprovements in Oven-Slides; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, refer consists in forming a groove in the under side i of the shelf in the oven, at one or both ends, and in which groove the outer endot' a pivoted lever is made to catch, thelever being attached to the oven-door bya suitable connecting-rod, whereby, when the door is opened, the shelf is drawn partly out, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
Figure 1 represents a horizontal inverted section taken through the oven, showing the doors Shut. Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing one door open.
(t represents ,an oven of any suitable kind; b, the shelf placed therein, and c the hinged oven-doors. Upon the under side of this shelf, at each of its corners, is made a guide, 0, which catches under the flange g, on which the shelf moves and rests, for the purpose of making the shelf always move straight and the oven, at any suitable distance beyond the door, is a lever, l,which has a projection orroller,
a, on its free end, to catch in the groove or guide on the shelf as the door is beingopened, and which lever has anu mber of holes through it, so as to regulate the distance the shelf shall be drawn outwhen the door is opened. This lever is attached to the oven-door by neans of the connecting-rod 0, which is pivoted to the door at one end and to the lever at the other. The inner end of this rod can be adjusted from one end to the other on the rod, and the farther it is moved outward on the lever the farther out the shelf will be drawn as the door is opened, and vice versa.
By these means, as above described, it is only necessary to open the oven-door. and the shelf will be drawn outward with it far enough to allow what is placed on the shelf to be freely inspected, without first having to open the door and thenpull the article or shelf out at the risk of burning the hands.
I am aware that the shelf ofan oven has 7 claim The combination of the slide or shelf 12, provided with the grooves or guides t, levers l o, and door 0, whereby the Shelf can be drawn out from either end by the door, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 10th day of December, 1879.
LOUIS A. WEINER. .[L. 8.]
