Patented May 13, 1941 ijbiil l' STATES FATE??? 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a holding device for soft collars, and it consists in the constructions, arrangements and combinations herein described and claimed.
It is the cardinal object of the invention to provide a soft collar holder in which the collar engaging means tends to move toward each other, under spring tension, and thereby draw the collar Wings into neat and orderly fashion upon the neck of a wearer.
It is a still further object of the invention to provide a holder of novel construction in assembly of the collar engaging means and in the incorporation of spring means whereby the engaging means will be yieldingly retained, permitting all necessary movements of the wings of a collar which are often subjected to strains dur ing the wearing of such apparel.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a collar holder which can be manufactured at a low cost, be efficient and positive in operation, and readily applied and removed from a collar.
Additional objects, advantages and features of invention will be apparent from the following description and accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective View of the invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Figure 3 is a cross section on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a view illustrating the parts of the holder in a separated relation.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the tubular bar of the device.
There is illustrated a tubular bar l0, substantially rectangular in cross section, the ends of which are open for reception of respective collar gripping means generally indicated at l l and I2.
Each end of the bar II] is provided upon each of the flat faces of the bar with short slits l3, extending longitudinally of the bar, forming respective tongues M, which function for retention of the gripping means, as will presently be explained.
The gripping means are identical in construction and assembly within the tubular bar I 0, and as shown consist of a rectangular shaped metal strap, bent intermediate its length to form a bight portion l5 from which parallel leg members l6 and I! extend. The leg members l6 will be given a slight angular bend, as at IS in a direction away from the longitudinal axis of the leg and the legs ll will each include a portion recurved in the direction of and contacting the leg 16, as indicated at I8.
The spacing of the legs 16 and IT is such that the gripping means may be freely slidable in respective ends of the tubular bar ID, the bight portions I5 being housed within the bar In, as clearly shown in Figure 2. g
In order that a tension means may be incorporated in the gripping devices, a small helical spring [9 is provided, of a diameter readily fitting between the legs IB and I1, one end thereof seating in the bight portion I5. With the gripping devices enclosed within the bar I0, the tongues M are struck inwardly toward each other so as to extend across the open ends of the bar, thus forming an abutment for the other end of the spring as well as retaining the spring and gripping device within the bar. Normally, the bight portions I5 of the gripping devices will abut, limiting inward movement of the gripping devices.
The angular bend l6 and the recurved portion l8 function to grip the wings of a collar therebetween and when applied to a collar, it will be seen that a constant, resilient pull will be exerted upon the collar wings in a direction toward each other and thereby hold the collar in an orderly fashion. Obviously by the provision of the yieldable mounting of the gripping means, the collar wings may partake of movements such as is necessary under ordinary wear, without liability of release of the gripping means from the collar wings.
While the invention has been specifically shown and described, this is by way of illustration only,
and I consider as my own all such modifications in structure as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A soft collar holder comprising a tubular open-ended bar, a collar gripping means slidably engaged through respective ends of the bar, and including a bight portion, a helical spring seated in each bight portion, and extended in the direction of respective open ends, and tongue members on the ends of the bar extended across the path of the springs.
2. A soft collar holder comprising a tubular open ended bar, a collar gripping means slidably engaged through respective ends of the bar, said gripping means each consisting of a bar member bent intermediate its length to define a bight
