This invention relates to a machine for manufacturing edible ices in which the mass of edible ice which is located in a rotating, externally cooled receptacle or freezer is constantly conveyed to the wall of the freezer and then stripped therefrom by means of a; stripper which is adapted to move up and down over the wall of the freezer.
According to the present invention the inside wall of the freezer co-operates with a guide vane arranged at a distance from the said wall, and the stripper is provided with two or more stripping knives arranged at a distance from one another corresponding to their height of stroke,
. and leaving between them a passage through this manner, the mass removed by the stripping knives from the wall of the freezer is caught by the guide vane and reconveyed to the wall of the freezer by means of the surface of the vane which is arched in the direction of rotation of the wall of the freezer.
As a further development of the inventive idea the guide vane is suspended in the freezer so as to be manually rotatable about its vertical longitudinal center axis; and the edge which is opposite the arched guide surface is, in the case of a modified form, provided with stripping knives. On the spindle of the guide vane there is provided a limiting arm provided with a set screw, said arm cooperating with a stationary f-ated about a pivot out of the track of the limiting arm, sothat when the abutment is thus the bearing of the guide vane.

The machine consists of an edible ice receptacle or freezer I, which is inserted in a doublewalled pail or casing 2, and a supporting bracket 3, which accommodates the motive driving elements. The entire drive is effected by means of the freezer shaft 4 which is driven from a motor I by the gearwheels 5, 6. The edible ice freezer I is keyed on and rotates with the freezer shaft 4,, in a step bearing 8. -For removal of the freezer I, the freezer shaft 4 itself is split into two lengthsand adapted to be locked together by means of a sleeve 9. The driving of the stripping arrangement is effected by means of a worm I0 fixedly carried on the freezer shaft and actuating a worm wheel II which is coupled to a shaft I2. On the shaft I2 is mounted a crank I3 which by means of a crank pin I4 imparts up-and-down movement to a connecting rod I 5. The connecting rod I 5 is rotatably attached at a second point to the pin I6 to which is attached an oscillating arm II, the latter being rotatably mounted on the bracket 3 by means of a pin I8. .A tripper arm I9 is adapted to be hung on and removed from the pin I6, the stripper 2| being pivotally carried by said stripper arm I9 by means of a pin 20. The stripper 2| carries two off-set and projecting knives 22. Owing to the upward movement during reciprocation of the connecting rod I5, the stripper arm I9 and the oscillating stripper" 2| are raised (Fig. 3). The requisite contact pressure of the stripper 2| upon the wall of the freezer is obtained by means of a spring 23, which acts upon a cam 24 which is carried on the stripper arm' I9. The spring 23 rests firmly upon an eyelet of the connecting rod I5. When the crank I3 and with it the connecting rod I5 move downaway from the wall of the freezer. During the upward movement of rod the stop 26 releases the cam 24 so that the force of the spring 23 is free to act and press the stripper knives 22 against the side-walls of the freezer.
For the purpose of gathering and reconveying the stripped mass of edible ice to the wall of the freezer a guide vane 21 is arranged within the freezer I. The vane 21 is rotatably adjustably smpended in the holder 29 by means of a carrier rod 28, and its rotatable adjustment is limited by engagement of the arm 39 fixedly carried on'rod 28, with the abutment 3| which is rotatably adjustable in-position. The abutment 31 is rotatable about a pin 32 on the carrier arm 29. For the purpose of regulating the adjustment of the vane 21 and its minimum spacing from the freezer wall, a set screw 33 is provided in the arm 30, said screw being. positioned to impinge upon the abutment. When the freezer l is to be emptied the abutment 3! is pivoted outwardly about the pin 32 so that the arm and with it the vane 21 may be rotated by means of the rotary lever 34. The rod 28 has one portion thereof reduced in diameter in such manner that after being raised in the slotted bearing 35 (Fig. 4) it can be removed therefrom.
The vane 21 possesses an arched portion 36 and a straight portion 31 extending beyond the spindle 28, the edge of said straight portion being provided over its entire length with strippers 39 held under pressure from the springs 38. The back of the arched portion 36 constitutes in one position of the vane 21 (Fig. 6) a guiding surface,
with the aid of which the mass of edible ice is conveyed to the wall of the freezer.
When the edible ice has been completely frozen the vane 21 is manually rotated so that the strippers 39 come into contact with the wall of the freezer. from the wall of the freezer and'is collected in the mold of the guide vane 21, which is provided with a bottom 40, so that the mass can be lifted from the freezer together with the vane 21.
The bottom ll of the freezer I is level so that the guide vane 21 can be rotated thereon without being raised therefrom. The freezer l rests upon an internal shoulder provided in a dish-shaped plate 42 in such a manner as to leave a hollow space 43 under the bottom of the freezer, so that only a slight freezing action occurs at the said bottom. The edge of the bottom plate acts as astripper for the purpose of collecting the mass from the bottom of the freezer.
What I claim and desire to secure by Patent of the United States is:
1. A machine for manufacturing edible. ice comprising a rotating, externally cooled freezer, a stripper moving up and down along the inside wall of the freezer, mechanical means; for conv'eying the ed ble ice mass back to the wall of the freezer, said means consisting, of a guide vane which is arranged at a distance from the inside wall of the freezer with which it is adaptedito Letters stripping means.

3. A machine according to claim 1, in which the guide vane extends to the bottom of the freezer andis provided at .the lower end thereof with a bottom plate the edges of which operate as 4. A machine according to claim 1 in which the spindle of the guide vane is guided in a slotted bearing on the bearing arm, the portion of the said spindle which in the working position of the guide vane is located below the portion whichis encased by the bearing being reduced in diameter so that it can be easily removed through the slot after being raised.

A machine according to claim 1, a rod unit connected to said stripper and comprising a pair of pivotally connected lever members, a crank connected for driving said rod unit, an oscillating lever, a fixed pivot for pivotally mounting one end of said oscillating lever, the other end of said oscillating lever being pivotally-mounted on said rod unit-on the pivot connecting said lever members, and means for normally holding said rod unit with its said lever members in the extended position.

A machine according to claim 1, a rod unit connected to said stripper and comprising a pair of pivotally connected lever members, a crank connected for driving said rod unit, an oscillating lever, a fixed pivot for pivotally mounting one end of said oscillating lever, the other end of said oscillating lever being pivotally mounted on said rod unit on the pivot connecting said lever members, and resilient means connected,
between said lever members for normally'holding said rod'unit with its said lever members in the extended position. v

A machine according to claim 1, a rod unit connected to said stripper and comprising a pair of pivotally connected lever members, a crank connected for driving said rod unit, an oscillating lever, 43. fixed pivot for pivotally mounting one end of said oscillating lever, the other end of said oscillating lever being pivotally mounted on said rod unit on the pivot connecting said lever members, the lower lever member which carries the stripper-being extended beyond the pivot connecting the other lever member, a cam carried on said lower lever member, and aspring carried on said other lever member and engaging said cam, whereby said stripper contacts said freezer wall on the upstroke but is displaced therefrom on the downstroke.
