[Class 86] [Also in Group XIII] A machine for making ice-cream comprises a rotating externally cooled pan 1, a stripper 21 reciprocating vertically on the inside wall of the pan and having spaced blades 22 with a passage between them through which the ice-cream may pass, and a guide vane 27 for directing the icecream back to the wall of the pan. The stripper contacts with the wall of the pan only during its upward movement, and the guide vane is removable and forms a collecting device for the finished product. The pan is fixed to a vertical shaft 4 driven by a motor 7, the shaft being divided at 9 for removal of the pan. A worm 10 on the shaft 4 drives, through a worm-wheel 11 and a crank, a connecting-rod 15 pivoted at 16 to an oscillating arm 17 and to the strippercarrying arm 19. A spring 23 acts on a cam 24 fixed to the arm 19 to force the stripper 21 against the wall of the pan, but during the downward stroke a stop 26 on the connecting-rod raises the stripper from the wall. The vane 27 is carried by a rod 28 rotatable in a bracket 29 and in the position shown in Fig. 6 its curved portion 36 directs the ice-cream towards the wall of the pan. By releasing a pivoted catch the vane can be turned through 180 degrees so that scrapers 39 on it contact with the wall and the ice-cream is collected in the vane which has a bottom 40 with a scraper edge. The bearing of the rod 28 on the bracket 29 is slotted so that the rod and the vane 27 can be removed.
