Description

W. A. TURNER.
Gas-Stove.
Patented Feb. 3,1880.
INVENTORI' V WITN EssEs;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. TURNER, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOB TO THE RETQRT GAS STOVE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
GAS-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 224,056, dated February 3, 18-80. Application filed September 26, 1379.-
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. TURNER, of the city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gas-Stoves; and
I hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a gasstove so that the gas and air will be more thoroughly mixed before the same are burned, and which shall be simple in construction, so that the same may be sold at a low price.
The invention consists in the peculiar con struction of the top of the stove, and in the manner of securing the top, bottom, tubular column, and the annular gas-supply tube together byone central bolt, all of which will be more fully set forth hereinafter.
Figure 1 is a view of the stove, showing the top, the perforated burner, the central column, and the bottom or stand. The outer cylinder is indicated in broken lines. Fig. 2 is a seciional view of the improved gas-stove; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view, showing the operation of the gas issuing from the annular tube and the effect upon the air drawn in by the same.
In the drawings, A is the top frame of the stove, on which vessels can be set. It differs in its construction from the spider heretofore used. The central disk, on, is provided with a countersunk hole to receive the head of the bolt, and three or more arms, a, extend from the central disk to the outer rim, d, which rim is provided with openings to allow the heat to escape, and is provided with a groove to the outer cylinder. Therefore the rim d, the central disk,-a, and the arms 0 are all cast in one piece, and the bolt 0, extending below the standard f, arranged to receive the tubular post g, and the outer cylinder has the cross- 5 bar a and a nut, by which the whole is firmly secured together. There are no loose pieces liable to be misplaced, and the whole is more firmly braced than was the case heretofore.
The projections a of are also cast with the top, and extend to the rim a so that no strain is exerted on the perforated sheet metal forming the burner. I
.The gas-tube is provided with holes, from which the gas in escaping rushes through the central opening, and thus carries the air with it, and both are thoroughly intermixed, and more thoroughly so than when a circular tube with openings is placed above the bottom plate.
The openingsl Z allow of free entrance of air to the interior of the tubular column g, and thus by the air entering the central and the annular holes an ample supply of air and perfect combustion are secured, which insures a higher economy in the use of gas.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a gas-stove top, the combination, with the burner, of the central disk, 01, east in one piece with the arms 0 0, extending horizontally to the periphery and downward to the rim d, arranged to leave openings between a vessel placed on the top and the rim (1, for the lateral escape of heat, as described.
2. In a gas-stove, the combination, with the top A, provided with the ribs 0, rim d, and
projections a a, the rim a and perforated burner, the column g, and base f, the whole secured together by the bolt 0, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. In a gas-stove, the combination, with the top A, the column 9, closed at its upper end by the top A and provided with a gauze burner, of the basef, provided with the central 8 5 opening, 70, the circular tube 5, provided with two or more openings, and the bolt 0, by which the whole is secured together, arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
. WM. A. TURNER.
