COMPOUND TOOL.

- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.224,022, dated February 3, 1880.

Application filed September 8, 1879.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR W. LYMAN, of Genevayin the county of Ashtabula and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and use- The two figures of the, drawings are pcrspec tive views, Figure llreplresenting-"a' top view, and Fig. 2 being an inverted view of Fig. 1.

Corresponding parts in the two figures are denoted by similar letters of reference! The object of this invention is to furnish the public in general with a new article capable of use for drawing tacks, driving screws, opening cans, and such other uses as necessity may suggest; and to these ends my invention consists of a combined tack-claw, screw-driver, and can-opener constructedall in one piece, substantially as hereinafter more iully described and claimed. i

In the accompanying drawings, a marksthe body of my device, to the ends of which are wrought out devices capable of performing the functions hereinbefore expressed. In the ends of the body a, which is preferably curved upwardly, as shown, a V shaped cut, b, is made to form a claw, while in the same end, but interiorly of said cut, in a right 1ine,a tongue, 0, is stamped or otherwise suitably The first part, d, is pointed and sharpened, to

be used as a knife or any purpose within its range of use, but more particularly as a canopener, the plate 0 serving as aslip to prevent the knife from enteringthe can or other vessel too far, while the part j, which constitutes a screwdriver, moving on the perimeter of the vessel; determines and limits the cut to the proper distance from the circumference.

The knife-edge extends to a point within the outer end of the plate a, and the screwdriver extends beyond both the plate and knife.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

The compound tool herein described, consisting of the body a, having at one end a tack-claw, and immediately inrear of same a fulcrum, 0, stamped from the body a, and at the other end a blade, cl, and stop or plate 0, having a screwdriver, f, at right angles to said stop or plate e, all substantially as shown and described.
