4 Claims. (Claw-43) My invention relates to a dry shaver to be used for shaving hairfrom the face or other parts of the body, and the-objects of my invention'are:

First, to provide a new and novel dry shaver head for dry shavers;

Second, to provide a dry shaver in which the blade is double, edged and may be reversed. so that both edges may be used; 1

Third, to provide a dry shaver head in whic the blade is positioned at an obtuse angle from the axis of the handle end;

Fourth, to provide a dry shaver of this class with novel means foryreciprocating the blade;

Fifth, to provide a dry shaver of this class with 1 novel adjusting means;

Sixth, to provide a dry shaver with a reciprocating bladein the head and arranged'to be reciprocated by means of arotatable stem passing through the handle of the shaver, a portion of which is cut away to exposethe shaft or stem so that it may be engaged by a suitable device for imparting rotary movement thereto;

Seventh, to provide a dry shaver: of this class in which the number of parts employed in constructingthe shaver is reduced to a minimum, there being required only." a handle, a blade,

guard, and a shaft in the production-ofumy shaver;

Eighth, toprovide a shaver of this class in O which the blade is vibrated or reciprocated by deteriorate or get out of order and which is very economical to use;

With these and other objects in View as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon whichform a part of this application in which: I

' The shaft 6 near its extended end is provided with a reduced portion 60 which is mounted in a bearing in the forwardly extending end [0 of the handle casing I, this reduced portion 60 being concentric with the shaft 6. Extending from 50 this portion 6c is another reduced end portion 6d which is mounted eccentric with the shaft 6 shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawing, and this eccentric portion Sd is provided with an offset point fie at its extremity, which point is concentric and 5 positioned directly in line with the axis of the shaft 6 so that when the point 6c is engaged by the shaft adjusting screw 1, the point lie is pivoted centrally with the shaft adjusting screw 1 so' that when the shaft revolves, the eccentric o portion 6d operates eccentrically while the point 66 being concentric with the shaft 6 remains in constant central position with the shaft adjusting screw 1. The front extended end Id of the handle casing member I is reduced in diameter and adapted to receive an annular hollow cylindrical portion 3a, of the shaver head 3 which fits snugly on the portion Id and forms a tight fit therewith.

The shaver head 3 is provided with a slotted portion 3b which is positioned on an angle with the cylindrical portion 3a as shown best in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing, the side 30 being open and over which is mounted the :cap 5. This cap is provided with fine slots 5a in its front face and is U-shaped in cross section and is supported on the portion 3b by means of screws 5b'which extend into the member 3b on opposite sides for holding the cap member rigidly in position on the head portion 3b. The slot in the head portion 31) is adapted to receive the blade 4 which is adapted to reciprocate therein. with a plurality of narrow slots 40. which conform. with the slots 5a in the cap 5 when they are in certain relative position and forms shearing portions between the slotted portions of the blade and cap with the reciprocation of the blade, thus'clipping the hair which extends inwardly through the slots 5a and are sheared by the ridge portions 4b of the blade between the slots 4a.

This blade 4 is provided with slots 4a and ridges 4b on opposite sides so that it may be reversed and both edges used and it is supported in its relation relative to the cap 5 by means of screws 3d at the opposite ends of the head member as shown best in Fig. 4 of the drawing. This blade 4 is also provided with a slot 40 through which the eccentric portion 6d of the shaft 6 extends so that when the shaft revolves, this eccentric portion causes the reciprocation of the blade 4, the head being provided with an orifice 3e large enough to permit the eccentric movement of the portion 6d. It will be here noted that any wear in the shaft as far as end thrust is concerned may be taken up gradually by means of the shafts adjusting screw 1.

The operation of my dry shaver is as follows: When it is desired to shave, the dry shaver is taken by the handle I at the portion In and the knurled portion 6d pressed against a strap or other long object and moved rigidly in one direction which causes the fly wheel to revolve rapidly. Then the front face portion of the cap 5a is positioned to engage the face, and the shaver moved along. The revolution of the fly wheel 8 causes the reciprocation of the blade 4 and the hair is clipped close to the skin. It has been found that the fly wheel when properly started will revolve for several minutes under dry shaving operation.

Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination, and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not Wish tobe limited to this particular construction, combination, and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination, and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

- 1. In a dry shaver, the combination with a handle, of a head positioned at an obtuse angle to said handle, a blade reciprocably mounted in said head, said blade provided with alternate This blade is provided grooves and ridges in its edge, a cap member provided with alternate grooves and ridges in engagement with the edge of said blade and secured to said head, said blade having grooves a d ridges in its opposite edges whereby it is eversible, said blade having a slot extending transversely therein, an eccentric shaft in engagement Lwith the walls-of said slot for reciprocating said blade, said shaft provided with a point concentric with the shaft on the extended end of the eccentric-portion thereof, an adjustable bearing in connection therewith, and fly wheel means in connection with said shaft for revolving the same.

2. In a dry shaver, the combination with a handle, of a head positioned at an obtuse angle to said handle, a blade reciprocably mounted in said head, said blade provided with alternate grooves and ridges in its edge, a cap member provided with alternate grooves and riges in engagement with the edge of said blade and secured to said head, said blade having grooves and ridges in its opposite edges whereby it is reversible, said blade having a slot extending transversely therein, an eccentric shaft in engagement with the walls of said slot for reciprocating said blade, said shaft provided with a point concentric with the shaft on the extended end of the eccentric portherewith, fly Wheel means in connection with said shaft for revolving the same, a recess in the handle of said shaver and extending partially around said shaft, and said shaft provided with tion thereof, an adjustable bearing in connection a knurled portion for engagement by friction device to apply rotary motion to said shaft.

3. In a dry shaver, the combination with a handle, of ahead fixedly positioned at an angle other than a right angle to said handle, a blade reciprocably mounted in said head, said blade provided with alternate grooves and ridges in its edge, a cap member provided with alternate grooves and ridges in engagement with the edge of said blade at a right angle to the plane of the blade and secured to said head, said blade also having a slot extending transversely therein, an eccentric shaft in engagement with the walls of said slot for reciprocating said blade, said shaft provided with a point concentric with the shaft on the extended end of said eccentric portion thereof, and an adjustable bearing in connection therewith.

4. In a dry shaver, the combination with a handle, of a head fixedly positioned at an angle other than a right angle to said handle and provided with a blade supporting slot extending in W opposite directions to the longitudinal axis of said handle, a relatively wide thin flat blade reciprocally mounted in said slot and extending outwardly of said slot at one side, said blade provided with alternate grooves and ridges in its edge, a cap member provided with alternate grooves and ridges extending straight across its edge face in engagement with the edge face only of said blade at a right angle to the plane of the blade and secured to said head on opposite sides of said blade, said blade having grooves and ridges in its opposite edges whereby it is reversible for use, said blade having a slot extending transversely therein, an eccentric shaft in engagement with the walls of said slot for reciprocating said blade, said shaft provided with a point concentric with the shaft on the extended end of the eccentric portion thereof and an adjustable hearing in connection therewith.
