Description

BURST NECKTIE HOLDER Filedv April 5, 1939 Patented Feb. 18, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in necktie holders.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character which may be easily attached to the front collar button of a shirt and engage the knot portion of a four-in-hand tie, thereb-y preventing lateral displacement of the knot with respect to the collar.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character including a spring clip capable of frictionally engaging the collar fastening member of a shirt so that pin arms formed integral with the clip may extend through the knot loop and pull end of the tie, thereby anchoring the same against relative sliding movement. I
A still further object of this invention is to provide a necktie fastener including a spring clip member capable of attachment to the front collar button or fastening of a shirt having projecting pin members presented to the knot portion of a four-in-hand tie and flange members or disks mounted on the projecting pins for limiting the entrance of the pins into the tie knot.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character which is extremely simple in construction,
comparatively easy to manufacture and comprising a compact unitary structure which will be entirely obstructed from View when in operative position.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description, taken with the drawing, wherein,
Figure 1 is a plan view of an embodiment of the invention illustrating the same applied to a front collar fastening and showing the necktie locked in a centered position;
Figure 2 is a similar View of the device shown attached -prior to the positioning of the necktie;
Figure 3 is a front elevational view of the invention illustrating the same greatly enlarged;
Figure 4 is a vertical cross-sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows, illustrating the manner in which the pin members engage the four-inhand necktie knot;
Figure 5 is a vertical cross-horizontal crosssectional View taken on line 5--5 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows, further illustrating the manner in which the pin members engage the tie knot;
Figure 6 is a perspective View of a further modified form of the invention illustrating limit; stops on the pin members; and
Figure 7 is a side elevational view of the modification shown in Figure 6, further illustrating 5 the limit stops.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustrating the invention and wherein like reference characters will be employed to designate like parts throughout the same, the reference 10 character 5 in Figures 1 to 5 inclusive, will generally be employed to designate a U-shaped fastener preferably formed of wire or the like and including a loop portion 6 adapted to encircle a front shirt button or collar button I extending 15 through the closure flaps of a collar 8 and through the neckband of the shirt 9.
The loop portion 6 is of a diameter slightly smaller than the collar button head 'I to insure against displacement and the end portions of the 20 loop Ill are bent inwardly as at II to provide a restricted opening I2 which may allow the passage of the shank of the collar button l. The ends of the loop I0 extend downwardly for a portion of their length and are bent upon them- 25 selves as at I3 to provide parallel extending pin members I4 having pointed or sharpened ends to allow for the insertion into the knot I6 and slide portion Il of the necktie I8 as shown clearly in Figures 4 and 5.
When the device is used, it may be placed on the collar button 'I prior to the positioning of the necktie or it may be slipped in place over the collar button 'I after the tie has been properly arranged. After the fastener 5 is in position, 35 and the necktie is in the desired location, a slight downward pressure is exerted on the knot of the tie to cause the pointed ends of the pin members I4 to penetrate the loop I6 of the knot structure and the slide end I1 of the tie I8. After the pin 40 members are inserted the tie knot will stay in its original position and the knot will not become loosened allowing side slipping of the tie with respect to the collar. Due to the hook shape of the pin members I0 and I4, the tie will be held up 45 toward the peak of the meeting edges of the collar, thereby adding -to the symmetry of the ensemble. It is to be noted that the necktie fastener is completely concealed and does not distract from the aesthetic beau-ty of the collar or 50 tie.
In Figures 6 and '7, a modified form of the invention is shown and comprises a necktie fastener 5a having a loop portion 6a adapted to encircle a collar button or other collar fastening.
The loop 6a is provided with parallel portions 'la which are indented as at 8a to form a restricted passage 9a. The parallel portions 'Ia extend downwardly for a portion of their length and are return bent as at lDa to form penetrating prongs l la adapted to perform the same function as the pin members I4 shown in Figures 1 to 5 inclusive. The free ends of the penetrating prongs lla are pointed as at |2a for the purpose of allowing for the easy penetration of the necktie knot loop and the slide end of the tie.
Mounted midway between the bent portion Illa and the free pointed end |2a of the penetrating prong I la is a disk |3a adapted to limit the penetration of the prong into the necktie knot andV assist in holding the knot of the Itie in a forwardly extended position. The necktie fastener shown in Figures 6 and 7 is used in identically the same manner as the form of the invention shown in Figures 1 to 5 inclusive and may be adjusted to suit the desired location of the tie employed.
It will be noted that the tie fastener may be employed in connection with hand tied bow neckwear as well as the four-in-hand tied type and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the sub-joined claim.
What is claimed is:
A necktie holder comprising a single blank of wire having a loop portion for being received on a collar button, necktie penetrating prongs formed on the free ends of the loop portion extending at an acute angle thereto to engage the knot structure of a necktie and lock the strands thereof against displacement and limit stops `formed on the prongs adjacent but spaced from the ends thereof to limit the entrance of .the prongs into the necktie structure, said stops cornprising disk shaped members encircling the ends of the prongs.
