Patented Feb. 11, 1941 UNITED sTATEs CONTROL nEvIoE For, ROTARY DUPLICATING MACHINES Wilhelm Ritzerfeld, Berlin, Germany Application October 14, 1938, Serial No. 234,887 In Germany October 19, 1937 4 Claims.
The present invention relates to a control device for rotary duplicating machines of the type in which a copyable mirror-script original is pressed against sheets previously moistened with a readily volatilizing liquid. These known rotary duplicators consist in a printing drum with means for holding the original, a counterpressure roller, a moistener if wanted supply means for the sheet to be printed upon and-also if wanted-means to take up the sheets upon.
The object of the invention consists in preventing one or other part remaining switched on when the drive of the machine is switched oi, as for example could be the case with the pressure roller and with the valves for the supply of liquid.
To this end, essentially the invention consists in connecting to each other two or more of the parts of the reprinting or copying machine which can be switched on and off, by means of known elements or any elements desired, for example, rods, levers, wheel, worm, friction, belt or chain gears or the like in such a way that when at least one of these elements is switched on or ofi, one or more of the other elements are simultaneously set in motion or stopped. As representatives of the first group of elements may be mentioned: motor, counterpressure roller, valves for delivering the liquid. Representatives of the second group: pressure roller, valves for delivering the liquid and e. g. a device for opening the clamping device.
A further characteristic of the invention consists in that the further switchingof at least one or the other elements of the mentioned first group can be proceeded with, and if desired in stages, after the other elements are already working, without further influencing other elements. The same process can be carried out when switching off but in the opposite order.
In the drawings two forms of construction made in accordance with the invention are 11- lustrated by way of example:
Figs. 1 and 2 show the connection of the motor switch with the pressure roller respectively in elevation and in part plan, the latter to a larger scale.
Figs. 3 to 5 show details of the connection of the lever for actuating the pressure roller with the valves for the liquid.
According to Figs. 1 and 2, I provide a printing drum I and a pressure roller 2 which can {iii-be pressed on to the printing drum lightly or printed ing roller l.
motor, counter:
strongly by means of an eccentric 3 in a known manner. The'pressure lever A is used for moving the eccentric 3. The motor switch 5 has a spindle 6 on which a disc I is fastened, which disc has a radial slot 8 open towards the periphery. A pin 9 of the adjusting lever Ill seated on the eccentric spindle 3a engages with the slot 8. H indicates the various pressure positions. The securing of the lever 4 in its position at any time is efiected by a spring loaded pin l2 (Fig. 2) which can enter into a hole at the corresponding place. If the pressure roller 2 is pressed against the printing roller l with the help of the lever 4, then the pin 9 rotates the disc I, whereby the switching in of the engine is afiected. If the motor is switched off then the pressure roller 2 is removed from the print- Ii. the disc I is rotated suitably far then the pin 9 emerges from the slot 8. This device has the purpose of making it possible to move the pressure lever, without the engine being further affected.
In the construction according to Figs. 3-5 an eccentric disc I3 is disposed on the spindle 3a of the pressure lever 4. Against the eccentric disc I 3 lies a small'osoillating arm M which is fastened to the spindle. I5. The spindle, I5 is under the influence of a spring l6.- To the spindle I5 is fastened a valve cone l8. Besides this cone it the spindle also carries a gear wheel I! which engages in a second gear wheel I9, on the spindle 20 of which a second valve cone 2| is disposed. This relates to a construction with two liquid supply pipes 22 and '23. Naturally one or more than two could be provided. If the pressure lever G of thepressure roller is shifted then the eccentric disc l3 oscillates the arm M in such a way that the valves I8 and 2! are opened. If a stronger pressure is adjusted the part M slides on to the side surface of the eccentric disc It so that the spindle i5 and therewith also the spindle 20 are not further affected.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention andin what manner the same is to be performed I declare that what I claim is:
1. A. rotary duplicator for reprinting from mirror script originals on blank, previously moistened sheets comprising a printing drum, a motor for driving said printing drum, means to moisten said blank sheets, means to press the moistened sheets against the surface of said drum, means to switch on and off said motor, said moistening means and said pressing means, means for further actuating said pressing means after switching on the motor, and means to start 4 actuating said pressing means before said motor motor for driving said printing drum, means to moisten said'blank sheets, means to press the moistened sheets against the surface of said drum, means to switch on and of! said motor, said moistening means and said pressing means, means to further actuate in stages said pressing means after the motor is switched on and of the means to open and close the valves of said moistening device, and means to switch 05 in stages said pressing means before said motor and said moistening device is switched ofi'.
3. A rotary duplicator for reprinting irom mirror script originals on blank sheets compris ing a printing drum, a motor to drive said printing drum, a hand lever to press said sheets against the surface of said printing drum, said hand lever being provided with a spring actuated nose, said nose being adapted to engage in recesses of a control element, an arm connected with said hand-lever, a pin arranged on said arm and'engaging a connection element arrangedon the axle of said motor.
4, A rotary duplicator for reprinting from mirror script originals on blank previously moistened sheets comprising a printing drum, a motor to drive said drum, a hand-lever to press said sheets against the surface of said printing drum, means to moisten said blank sheets, means to switch on and off said motor and said pressing means, a control element arranged on the axle of said hand-lever, said control element being connected with an arm, said arm being arranged on the axle of a valve lever of said moistening device, and means to make the movement of a plurality of valve cones of said moistening device dependent on each other.
