My invention relates broadly to revolving doors and more` particularly to an improved construction of lock for revolving doors.
One of the objects f my inventionis to provide an improved arrangement of lock for revolving doors in which a minimum number of parts are required for installation on the Wings of the revolving doors and in the drum structure coacting therewith.
Another object of my invention' is to provide a simplified Aconstruction of lock for revolving doors in which the lock mechanism is wholly protected within the ceiling structure of the drum of the revolving doors in a position in which tampering is prevented. l
Still another object of my invention is to provide a simplified construction of lock for revolving doors by which the revolving doors may be locked from either side thereof in a manner which insures against tampering with the lock,
A fur-ther `object of my invention is to provide a construction of lock for, revolving doors in which means carried by the wings ofthe revolving doors coact with latching mechanism within the ceiling structure of the drum` of the revolving door for positively locking the wings of the revolving doors in a position substantially transverse of the revolving door drum.
Other and further objects of myinvention reside in the arrangement of locking mechanism Vfor revolving doors as set forth` more ifully in the specification hereinafter following by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 11 is a transverse sectional view taken on line lI-Il of Fig. 3; Fig. 12 is a transverse sectional view taken on line I2|2 of Fig, 3 Fig. 13 isla plan view of the rockable locking lever employed `in the locking mechanism of my invention; Fig. 14 is a side elevational view of the rockable locking lever; and Fig. 15 is a plan view showing the appearance of the ceiling plate which is installed in the revolving door drum, the view showing the appearance of the plate when looking upwardly toward the ceiling of the revolving door drum. 4o My invention provides a simple form of lock for revolving doors which requires a minimum amount of hardware on the wings of the revolving doors with incident simplification and assembly and reduction in cost. I provide two of the diametrically extending wings of the 'revolving door assembly with projectible and retractible bolt members. The revolving door wings are moved to a position within the revolving door drum in which the wings extend transversely of the drum and which enable the bolt members to be moved vertically upward through apertures in the ceiling structure of the revolving door drum. The bolt members may be manipulated fromeither side of the revolving door Wings so that it is possible to lock or unlock the revolving door from either side thereof. moved upwardly through an aperture provided in the locking plate mounted in the ceiling structure, a notch inthe bolt member becomes aligned with a spring actuated rockable latching lever. The rockable latching lever is initially moved out of position by the projected tapered end of the notched bolt. When the limit of travel is reached, the spring of the spring actuated rockable lever snaps the rockable lever into the notch of the notched bolt. The bolt member secured to the revolving door wing is thereby made fast to the ceiling structure, making it impossible to rotate the revolving door assembly. Either of the key actuated locks on either side of the door wing may be operated to move the rockable lever out of the notch in the bolt member for permitting the bolt member to be disengaged from the locking mechanism and returned to a retracted position; with respect tothe revolving door wing, thereby enabling the revolving door wing to again freely rotate with respect to the drum of the revolving door. The bolt members may be actuated from either side of the revolving door wing and the locks may be functioned from either side of the revolving door-wing.
Referring to the drawings in more detail, reference character I designatesthe drum of the revolving door with ceiling structure 2 extending thereover. The revolving door wings are indicated at 3, 4, 5 and 6 rotatably mounted with respect to the drum by means of shaft I. The
1 locked position of the' door wings is indicated in Figs. l and 2 where wings 3 and 5 extend transversely of the drum and lare maintained in position by means of bolt members indicated at 8 and 9 passing through aligned apertures I0 and II, respectively, in ceiling plates I2 and I4 which are secured in the ceiling structure 2 of the revolving door drum. The ceiling plates` I2 and I4 are arranged in positions in theceiling structure of the revolving'door drum which are off- 45 set from the transverse centerline of the revolving door drum sumciently to allow bolt member 8 carried by wing 3 to project through aperture I6 in'ceiling plate I2 at the same time that boltmember 9 carried by wing 5 may be aligned 50 with and projected through aperture iI in ceiling plate I4.
The manner of mounting bolt member 8 with respect to the wing of the revolving door will be clear by reference to Figs. 3-11. A socket mem- 55 ber I5 is secured to the upper portion of the door wing 3 by means of screws I6 which enter one side of then revolving door wing 3 and screws I 'I which pass through the revolving door wing from the opposite side thereof. The headsof screws I6 60 are normally covered by bolt member 8 in either its retracted or-.projected position to eliminate any possibility of tampering with the lock system. Inasmuch asA screws II secure the socket member I5 to the revolving door wing `by pas- 5 sage through the opposite side thereof, the removalof the socket member I5 by access to one side of the door wing only is impossible. The socket member I 5` has diam'etrically oppositeslots I8 and I9 formed therein. Slotl I 9 is positioned in alignment with a slot 20 passing entirely through the revolving door wing. Actuating rod member 2| is secured in bolt member 8 and passes through aligned slots I9 and 28 and terminatesin a manual grip portion 22. The man- 75 ual grip portion 22 may be manually grasped at As each bolt member is' one side of the revolving door wing to enable the bolt member 8 to be projected vertically through aperture I0 in ceiling plate I2. The slot I8 in socket member I5 is somewhat offset from the position of slot I9 and forms a guide for actuating rod member 23 which terminates in the manual grip portion 24 which may be readily grasped for projecting bolt member 8 vertically through aperture I0 in ceiling plate I2. It will be noted that actuating rod member 23 is relatively short, whereas actuating rod member 2l is relatively longer for the reason that actuating rod member 2I extends through the door wing 3, whereas actuating rod member 23 merely extends through the wall of socket member I5. Both the manual grip portions 22 andY 24 perform the same function of projecting the bolt 8 vertically, except that one of the manual grip portions is operative fromone side of the door wing, whereas the other manual grip portion is operative from the other side of the door wing. The door wing is illustrated as carrying the rubber weather strip 25 and felt contacting strip 26 along the vertical edge thereof. The door wing is shown as carrying a horizontally extending felt strip 2'I along the upper edge thereof for maintaining tight engagement with the sides and ceiling structure of the revolving door drum.
The structure of the ceiling plate is shown more particularly in Figs. 7-9. Supporting plate 28 is carried by ceiling plate 2 and provides mounting means at opposite ends thereof for the separately actuatable locks shown at 29 and 36. The separately actuatable locks 29 and 30 are operative by means of a key 3| insertable through either of the key receiving face plates 32 and 33 shown more clearly in Figs. 4 and 12. Each of the locks contains a tumbler mechanism operative to shift the position of the diametrically extending cams 34 and 35. The cams 34 and 35 are mounted eccentrically with respect to the lock casings 29 and and are adapted to swing in an arc as shown for example in the lower portion of Fig. 8 for shifting out of the path thereof the rockable lever member 36.
The construction of the rockable lever member 3S is shown more particularly in Figs. 13 and 14 consisting of a symmetrically formed member having recessed portions 36a and 361) in opposite extremities thereof within which the cams 34 and 35 are adapted to engage. The angularly rockable lever 36 is resiliently mounted at its center beneath two transversely extending yoke members 31 and 38 secured in spaced relation to supporting plate 28 by screws 31a and 38a respectively. The central portion of rockable lever 36 is recessed as indicated at 39 to provide a substantially bifurcated portion which embraces bolt member 38. A centering pin 4U projects from the center of rockable lever 36 in alignment with a similar pin 4I carried by projection 42 extending from supporting plate 28. A coil spring 43 is confined between pins and 4I tending to continuously press rockable lever 36 into engagement with bolt member 8.
It will be observed that the bifurc-ated portion 39 of rockable lever .por-.tion 46 is chamfered as indicated at 44 forming an engaging lip for the notch `45 formed in bolt 8. This chamfered portion of .the rockable lever enables the bolt member 8 to force the rockable lever 46 transversely when the door is being initially locked, enabling the rockable lever to snap into position in notch 45. Bolt member 8 cannot be retracted until a key has been inserted through the lock face plates 32 or 33 and .the associatedangularly snif-table cam is moved to a position in which rockable lever 36 is shif-ted out of alignment with notch 45 in bolt 8'. Bolt 8 is thereby released and may 5 drop of its -own weight under .the action of gravity in socket member l5 or be withdrawn by manu-ally grasping either manually actuable members 22 or 23.
IThe unlocking operation may be performed from either side of the revolving door wing. Rockable lever 36 is floatably mounted so that one end thereof may fulcrum about one angularly shiftable cam while the other end thereof is being moved under key operation. The displacement is such that the bifurcated portion 39 of angularly rockable lever 36 is displaced sufliciently to permit [the free passage of bolt 8 through aperture I0 either to effect engagement between chamfered portion 44 and notch 45 or t-o eiect release thereof. In the engaged or the released position of the door, th-e angularly shiftable lcams yof the locks are each in centrally aligned positions :and rockable lever 36 has the recessed ends 35a and 36h thereof resting against the Iangularly shiftable cams 34 and 35 ready to be immediately shifted out of position by operation of the projectible bolt member 8 in eiecting a locking operation.
The duplicate lock installation carried .by ceiling plate I4 is identical in construction with the lock mechanism already described. It will be observed that a minimum number of accessories are required for mounting on the wings of the revolving door, thereby Vgreatly simplifying the revolving door structure and improving the appearance thereof. The lock mechanism is pra-ctically burglar proof inasmuchas the operating parts of the lock are substantially confined. Moreover, the mounting ofv the locks in the ceiling of the revolving door drum renders the locks quite inaccessible land any tampering therewith must necessarily attract attention. j
One of the chief advantages of the arrangement of my invention is that the locking operation is performed without the use of a key. All that is necessary for the attendant to do is to move the revolving door wings into a position in which the .bolt member may be projected upwardly thr-ough the ceiling aperture and engaged by the spring actuated latching member. 'Ihe door is thus made fast but is ready to be unlocked from either side of the door wing by operation of either of the key actuated locks.
While I have described my invention in one of its .preferred embodiments, I realize that modiiications may be made and I desire that it be understood that I intend no 'limitations upon my invention other than may be imposed by the s-cope of the appended claims. What I claim :as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows: 1. A lock system for the drum and rotatably supported wing structure of a revolving door, comprising a latching device ldisposed in the ceiling structure of the drum of the revolving door,
a projectible .and retractible bolt member carried bythe wing of the revolving door and adapted to be engaged .and retained by the latching device when the bolt member is moved to projected position through the latching device, and key controlled means operable from either side of the bolted door wing and operatively connected with said l-atching device for shifting the latching `device to release said bolt member. 2. A lock for revolving |doors comprising in combination .a supporting plate adapted to be mounted in the ceiling structure of a revolving door drum, a pair of locks carried by said supporting plate in spaced positions, sai-d supporting plate having an -aperture intermediate said locks, 5 a projectible and retractible bol-t member carried by a revolving door operative with respect to said drum, a latching device extending adjacent said aperture and releasable by either of said locks, said .bolt member .being projectible through the l0 aperture in said supporting pla-te and being engageable by said latching device for maintaining the revolving door Wing :associated with said bolt member in predetermined relation to the ceiling structure of the revolving door drum. 15 3. A lock system for the rotatably mounted wings and drum structure of a revolving door, comprising a `projectible and retractible bolt member carried by a selected revolving door wing and operative from either side thereof for pro- 20 jection or retraction, and locking means mounted in the ceiling structure of the revolving door drum and operative from either side of lthe selected revolving door wing for latching said bolt member in projected position. 25 4. A lock system f-or a rotatably mounted Wing structure and a revolving door drum, comprising means vc-arried lby a selected wing of the revolving door, projectible and retractirble with respect to the .ceiling structure of the revolving door drum, 30 a :pair of locks disposed in the ceiling structure of the revolving door drum and adapted to bridge the thickness of lthe revolving door wing and the projectible and retractible means associated therewith for action from either side of the re- 35 volving door wing, means for latching said rst mentioned means in projected position, and lmeans controlled by either of said locks for disengaging said iirst mentioned means when said first mentioned means is in projected position. 40 5. A lock system for a rotatably journaled set of revolving door wings operative within a drum structure, comprising means carried by at least one of the revolving door wings and projectible and retractible with respect thereto from either 45 side of the associated revolving door wing, means carried by the ceiling structure of the revolving door drum and spaced to span the limits of thickness of the revolving door wing and the projectible and retractible means associated there- 50 with, for latching said rst mentioned means when said means are moved to projected position through said ceiling structure, and means for unlocking said projectible and retractible means from either side of the revolving door 55 wing.

A lock system for the rotatable wing structure of a revolving door including a drum structure, comprising projectible and retractible means carried by at least one of the revolving 60 door wings and operative from either side thereof, locking means mounted in the ceiling structure of the revolving door drum and operative from either side of the revolving door wing and the projectible and retractible means associated 65 therewith, said locking means including a spring actuated lever movable to either of two limiting positions for engaging or disengaging said projectible and retractible means.
7; A lock for revolving doors comprising in 70 combination a supporting plate adapted to be mounted in the ceiling structure of a revolving door drum, a pair of locks carried by said supporting plate in spaced positions, a projectible and retractible bolt member carried by a revolv- 75 ing door operative With respect to said drum, a latching device extending between 'said locks and shiftable in position by either of said locks, said bolt member being projectible throughk said supporting plate and being engageable by said latching device for maintaining the revolving door Wing associated With said bolt member in predetermined relation to the ceiling structure of the revolving door drum.
8. A lock system for a rotatably mounted Wing structure and a revolving door drum, comprising means carried by a selected Wing of the revolving door and projectible and retractible with respect to the ceilingr structure of the revolving door drum, a pair of looks disposed in the ceiling structure of the revolving door drum and adapted to span the thickness of the revolving door wing and the projectible and retractible means asso- .ciated therewith for action from either side of the revolving door wing, latching means in said ceiling structure for engaging said rst mentioned means when said rst mentioned means is projected through said ceiling structure, and angularly shiftable means controlled by either of said locks for disengaging said latching means from said rst mentioned means When said first mentioned means is in projected position.
9. A lock system for the rotatable Wing structure of a revolving door including a drum structure,comprising projectible and retractible means carried by at least one of the revolving door Wings and operative from either side thereof, locking means mounted in the ceiling structure of the revolving door drum and operative from either side of the revolving door Wing and the projectible and retractible means associated therewith, said locking means including a spring actuated lever having a central engaging portion and a pair of end engaging portions, said lever being displaceable for engaging said projectible and retractible means at said central engaging portion when the said projectible and retractible means is projected through said ceiling structure and said locking means being operative with respect to the said end engaging portions of said lever for disengaging saidr lever from engagement with said projectible and retractible means from either side of the revolving door Wing.

A lock system for the drum and rotatably supported Wing structure of a revolving door, comprising a pair of locks disposed in spaced relation in the ceiling structure of the drum of the revolving door, there being a locking aperture in the ceiling structure intermediate said locks, a latching device extending between said locks in alignment with said aperture, means for conining said latching device for rockable movement about either of said locks as a fulcrum to clear a path through the locking aperture in said ceiling structure, and a projectible and retractible bolt member carried by a Wing of the revolving door and adapted to extend through the locking aperture in said ceiling structure and to be engaged and retained by the latching device when the bolt member is moved to projected position through the said aperture, said latching device being rocked about one of said locks upon operation of the other of said locks for clearing said locking aperture for retraction of said bolt member.

A lock system for the drum and rotatably supported Wing structure of a revolving door, comprising a pair oV locks disposed in spaced relation in the ceiling structure of the drum of the revolvingdoor, there being a locking aperture in the ceiling structure intermediate said locks, a latching device extending adjacent said locks, spring means for normally shifting said latching device to a central position with respect to said locks in alignment With said aperture,
a projectible and retractible bolt member carried by the Wing of a revolving door and adapted to extend through the locking aperture in the ceiling structure in a position engaging said latching device for maintaining the revolving door Wing in predetermined position, said locks being operative from either side of the revolving door wing for disengaging said latching device from said projectible and retractible bolt member for enabling the bolt member to be withdrawn from the aperture in said ceiling structure for eiecting unobstructed rotation of the revolving door.
12. A lock system for elements disposed substantially normal to each other comprising a bolt member mounted inthe plane of one element and adapted to enter an aperture in the other element, a locking member mounted in said other element and extending transversely With respect to said bolt member, said bolt member being notched to engage an intermediate portion of said locking member and adapted to be prevented thereby from axial movement with respect to said locking member, unlocking means mounted in said other element on yeither side of the plane of the rst said element and operatively connected with opposite ends of said locking member, the intermediate portion of said locking member being shiftable out of engagement with said notched bolt member upon the actuation of the unlocking means connected with one end of said locking member.
