Description

M. BLANC Feb. 4, 1941.
HANGER Filed March 11, L939 Patented Feb. 4, 1941 UNETED STATES PATENT Fries 1 Claim.
The invention relates to improvements in hangers especially adapted for hanging light laundry and has for its primary object the provision of an improved foldable hanger which is 5 of simple construction and highly eilicient in use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
10 The invention Will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which Fig. 1 is a front view of a hanger embodying the invention;
15 Fig. 2 a top plan view of the same;
Fig. 3 an enlarged section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 an enlarged section taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1; and 20 Fig. 5 an enlarged section taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises a suspending element I having a supporting hook at its top and operatively connected with transverse supporting arms II and I2, said parts being formed of wire bent as indicated. The suspending element I0 is welded at I3 to the arm II adjacent its inner end and extends slightly below said arm where 30 it is provided with a pivot eye for the reception of pivot rivet I 4 and by means of which the other supporting arm I2 is pivoted to fold relatively to arm I I as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1. The inner end of the arm I I is provided with 35 a depending upwardly opening hook I which is adapted to receive and support the arm IZWhen in extended position as best shown in Figs. 1 and 4. The supporting arms II and I2 have their ends I6 bent downwardly and provided with sup- 40 porting eyes IT to which are attached the ends of a flexible sup-porting element I8, preferably in the form of a cord and of a length to be stretched by the arms I I and I2 when in extended form as best shown in Fig. 1.
By this arrangement a simple and effective hanger is provided which may be readily folded 5 into compact form for transportation or other purposes as desired and which may be readily extended into operative form. As will be noted, when in extended form the supporting element I8 will be properly stretched for supporting light 10 articles of laundry such as handkerchiefs, stockings and the like. The specific form and arrangement of parts is a simple and effective one for the purpose.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying the invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A hanger comprising a wire supporting arm; a wire suspending element rigidly secured to said arm adjacent one end thereof, provided at its upper end with a supporting hook and extending slightly below said arm and there provided with a pivoting eye, the adjacent end of said arm being formed into a depending hook opening upwardly;
a cooperating wire supporting arm pivoted to the eye at the lower end of said suspending element and arranged to swing into and out of said hook for folding into compact or extended form, said arms being provided with downwardly bent outer ends having supporting eyes at their bottoms; and a flexible supporting element secured to said eyes at the ends of said arms and arranged to be stretched thereby when extended.
