Description

H. BLILA WATCH HOLDER Jan. 7, 1941.
Filed May 6, 1940 Enventor HOWARD BLILA BB v? (Tttorneg j Patented Jan. 7, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.-
This invention relates to watch holders especially adapted for use in motor busses and other vehicles constructed chiefly of metal and employing electric motors or generators for or in their operation.
As is well known watches are subject to injury when exposed to electric or magnetic fields because parts thereof become magnetized in such a manner as to impair their function as time keepers hence it is an object of the invention to provide a holder in which the watch is kept insulated from the effects of such fields.
In busses and automobiles, watches are subjected to much jolting hence a further object of the invention is to so construct the parts of the holder that the watch is cushioned at the supporting points.
A further object is to provide a construction of watch holder by which the piece is securely held but easily removed when the possessor leaves the vehicle. Other objects will appear from the disclosure herein.
The invention is embodied in the example herein shown and described, the features of novelty being finally claimed.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a view in front elevation showing the outline of a watch therein in broken lines.
Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation also indicating the watch therein in broken lines.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line IVIV Fig. 1.
The main frame of the structure includes a strip of metal or other suitable material bent to provide a back portion 5, a front portion 5 and a bottom portion 5 The said front portion has secured to it by a suitable adherent a strip of cushioning fabric 6 such, for example, as billiard table cloth. Supplementing the adherent in attaching the said fabric strip 6 it is extended around the rear of the bend at the top to the back and fastened there with a plate 1 and screw 8. With this construction if by accident or use the adherent should become weakened and the fabric 6 loose, the latter can be lifted without removing the whole strip, fresh adherent applied and the strip restored to its proper position.
The bottom portion 5'" of the said frame strip is bent over upon itself to form a loop at 5 to receive the middle portion of a U-shaped frame 9 of stout spring wire. Each of the arms of said frame 9 is bent to form a coil 9* and rearwardly and angularly extended portions 9 formed to engage the opposite sides of the rim of the watch. The said portions 9 should be normally spaced apart to engage with pressure the rim of any ordinary watch at points above the horizontal diameter of the watch. But said portions 9' are provided with tubular covers H) of rubber or other suitable cushioning .and insulating material. To prevent the tubular covers H) from slipping off the arms 9 the ends of said arms are threaded and provided with nuts as shown at II.
On' the upper side of the frame bottom piece there is supported a circular slightly concaved shaped disk l2 of metal or other suitable material, it being fastened to the upper side portion 5 with its concaved side uppermost by means of a centrally located screw [3 on the disk and nut M to an angular bracket l5.
The said cup shaped disk is filled with a resilient gummy adherent l1 and superimposed on and held by said adherent is a thick disk [8 of felt or other fabric constituting a cushion and insulating material. The said adherent is preferably that known as Battery compound for sealing storage batteries.
The'portion of said bracket [5 to which the watch holding frame is attached is shaped to hold the watch in an inclined position facing the driver of the vehicle when the other portion of said bracket is .attached to a projection of the vehicle as by the screw Hi.
The forms and materials of the parts can be changed without departing from the gist of the invention as claimed.
What I claim is:
1. A time piece holder including a main frame portion consisting of a strip of suitable stiff material bent at one end to form a back rest for,
the time piece and at its other end to form a loop, a spring frame generally of U-form secured at its lower end in said loop of the main frame, the corners of said U-frame having coils and the arms of said frame each having a portion at its end extending at an angle thereto for yieldingly engaging opposite edges of the time piece.
2. A time piece holder including a main frame portion consisting of a strip of suitable stiff material bent at one end to form a back rest for the time piece and at its other end to form a bottom piece and a loop, electric insulating material on said back rest, a receptacle secured on said bottom piece to contain an adherent material, a cushioning and electric insulating member secured on said adherent material, and a spring frame of wire generally of U-form secured at its lower end in the aforesaid loop of the main frame, said U-frame having resilient coils, the arms of said frame each having a portion at its end extending at an angle thereto for yieldingly engaging opposite edges of the time piece, and material on said arms for electrically
