Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 222,722, dated December 16, 1879, application filed June 14, 1879.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BERNARD T. MURPHY,

of Marengo, in the county of Iowa and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Adjustable Roller-Hinge, of which the following is a specification.

The object of the invention is to furnish a durable and efticient device for hanging gates.

The invention consists, ssentially, of an adjustable roller-hinge, by which the gate is attached to the gate-post, and which admits of the vertical adjustment of the gate and its swinging in one direction laterally.

In the drawings, Ais a slotted plate ofmetal, held movahly on the gate-post B by the bevelheaded screws or bolts a, that pass through the slots 1); and in aslot, c, is pivoted a camlever, G, that is movable in a vertical plane, and, when passed down, will operate to push out the plate A, so that the edges of the slots b shall bear against the beveled or conical heads of the screws or bolts a, and the plate itself and its hinged part be thereby held in the desired position.

Having thus described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The within-described gate-hinge, consisting of the slotted plate A, secured on a post by conical-headed screws or bolts a, cam-lever G, pintle d, earsf, and grooved rollerD, constructed and arranged substantially as herein shown and described.

2. In the construction of a gate-hinge, the combination of the slotted plate A, screws or bolts a, and cam-lever G, substantially as and for the purpose described.
