2 Claims.
My invention relates to an electrically operated device of the vibrator type constructed to operate as a pair of scissors.
Among the objects of my invention is to provide an electric scissors for cutting paper, silk, cotton, wool and other light and heavy materials; and such other objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fully appear and which are inherently possessed by my invention.
While I have shown in the accompanying drawing a preferred form of my invention, yet I wish it understood that the same is susceptible of modification and change without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Referring to the drawing, Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of my invention; Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of my device with the cover removed; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my complete scissors head; Fig. 4 is a detailed sectional view of my invention shown on line 44 of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 is a top plan view of my invention.
The embodiment selected to illustrate my invention comprises a hollow casing "1,- preferably -of two parts, in which is housed a vibrator mech- 26 anism ll having a coil I 2 and a plurality of E shaped laminations l3. Thecore 14 of said laminations 13 extends within the hollow portion of said coil I2.
A resilient supporting bracket I5 is attached to said laminations l3 and also to armature 13.
A lead wire I1 is attached at one end to terminal 18 of coil 12 and leads at its other end through the casing ID to an electrical source of supply. v Another lead wire l3 is-attached at one end to a stationary switch member 20 which is attached to an L shaped insulated member 2| which rests on and is attached to laminations l3. The other end of lead wire l3 leads through casing II) to an electrical source of supply.
A coil terminal 22 connects coil H and switch support 23 which is attached to L shaped insulated member 2|. Switch support 23 has a movable contact blade 24 positioned adjacent an extension 25 of stationary switch member 20, but
normally spaced therefrom.
In casing I0 is an opening 23 adapted to receive the collar 21 of push member 23. The collar 21 has a circular .groove 23 which receives the wall of the'casing I 0. Push member 28 has a shank 30- on which collar 21 is slidably mounted. Push button member 23 also has a head 31. -My head 32 comprises a bracket 33 which is provided with a central portion 34 connecting .-two end portions 35 bent substantially at right angles thereto.
To attach my head 32 I provide a pair of oppositely disposed slots 33 within casing l0 and on opposite sides thereof. Within slots 36 are perfectly fitted nuts 31 having screw threaded aperture 38. End portions 35 of bracket 33 are 5 fitted within notches 39 on either side of casing l0 and have a screw aperture 40. Screws 4| pass through said apertures 40 and 38.
Extending outwardly from bracket 33 and integral therewith is a stationary member 42 hav- 10 ing an upper and inner edge 43 sharpened at a shearing angle as shown in Fig. 3. Pivotally attached to stationary member 42 by pir. 44 is movable member 45, which has an upper inner edge 46 also sharpened at a shearing angle as 15 shown in Fig. 3.
A right angle and integral extension 41 of movable member 45 lies against the upper edge of the casing and has an opening 48 to receive the extension or vibrating shaft 49 of the armature I6.
The central portion 34 of bracket 33 has a raised portion 50 extending above extension 41 and the upper end of vibrating shaft 49 and serving as a guard therefor. 25
In use let us assume the device has been plugged into an electrical source of supply having an alternating current. The user pushes the head 3| of push button member 28. This moves the shank 30 against movable blade 24 which in 30 turn moves against extension 25 of stationary switch member 20 completing the electrical circuit and moving armature IS in one direction. The resilient property of supporting bracket I5 causes the armature to move'periodically in the 35 other direction. This provides a vibrating movement of the armature l6 and its vibrating shaft 43 causing movable member 45 to move in relatively to stationary member. 42. Articlessuch as paper, silk, wool or any other similar fabrics or 0 materials placed between said members 45 and 42 will be cut along desired lines.
Upon the release of pressure from head 3| of push button member 23, the resiliency of movable switch blade 24 causes it to move away from sta- 45 tionary switch member 20, thus breaking the electrical circuit and stopping the operation of the device.
Having thus described my invention, I claim: 1. In an electrically operated scissors having a 5 casing, an electro-magnetic mechanism housed casing and a movable scissors blade pivoted to the stationary scissors blade and connected to and movable by the armature, a switch mechanism comprising a stationary member positioned within the upper portion of said casing, a resilient movable member positioned within the upper portion of said casing adjacent said stationary member, and normally spaced therefrom, a push button member attached to said casing at its .up-
per and forward portion, said push button member manually operable from the exterior of the casing, and extending within said casing to contact said movable member, said push button member adapted upon being pressed from the outside of the casing to move said movable member into contact with said stationary member to complete the electric circuit and cause the scissors to operate, said movable member adapted by its resiliency upon pressure being released from the push button member to return the movable member to normal spaced relation from said stationary member to stop operationof the scissors.
2. In an electrically operated scissors having a casing, an electric within said casing and connected to an electrical source of power, scissors blades attached to and extending beyond the casing and operable by said electric driving mechanism, a switch mechanism comprising a stationary member positioned within the upper portion of said casing, a resilient movable member positioned within the upper portion of said casing adjacent said stationary switch, and normally spaced therefrom, a push button member attached to said casing at its upper and forward portion, said push member manually operable from the exterior of the casing and extending within said casing to contact said movable member. said pushbutton member adapted upon being pressed from the outside of the casing to move said movable member into contact with said stationary member to complete the electric circuit and cause the scissors to operate, said movable member adapted by its resiliency upon pressure being released from the push button member to return the movable member to normal spaced relation from said stationary member to stop operation of the scissors.
