Dec. 3, 1940. M. W.'FLETCHER' BRUSH Filed Jan. 15, 1 940 Patented Dec. 3, 12940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to brushes and more especially to a utility type hand brush.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple, practical and efficient brush of the char- 5 acter described.
Another object is to provide a brush of the character described having an integral handle and bristle holding element.
A further object is to provide a brush having a 10 bristle holding element of twisted wire or the like having a continuation thereof forming a comfortable and sanitary handle.
Other objects and advantages will appear and be brought out more fully in the following spec- 15 ification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a front view of a brush embodying my invention; and
Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
20 Referring more particularly to the drawing, I show a brush having a bristle portion 5 and a handle 6. The handle 6 consists of a continuous wire I which is wound spirally and has a circular portion 8 which is twisted with a second wire 9,
25 the bristles 5 being held in the twists of the wires 8 and 9. Wire 8 is continuous through the bristle portion and enters the spiral portion comprising the handle and a straight portion I which extends at the end of the handle into a loop I I and thence back into the spiral portion 1 of the handle. Loop II is convenient for hanging the brush on a hook or the like.
The handle 6 is shown as consisting of a single wire, however, it will be understood that wire 9 can, if desired, be continued and twisted with wire 8 to form the spiral handle portion I.
It will be clear from this description that handle 8 is integral with the wire which holds the bristles and that there is no possibility of 10 the handle ever becoming separated from the bristle portion. Furthermore, it will be clear that the handle being of wire is completely sanitary and can be kept clean with a minimum of effort.
It will be understood that the foregoing description is illustrative rather than restrictive of the invention and that changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the subjoined claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
A brush as described, comprising a continuous wire forming a substantially circular brush portion, a helical handle, and a suspension loop at the end thereof, said bristle portion. having a second wire spirally twisted therewith, and a plurality of bristles secured thereby and extending radially therefrom.
MARJORIE W. FLETCHER.
