Description

G. R. 8a M. M. LOOMIS. Feed-Steamer.
No. 222,358. Patented Dec. 9,1879.
mmum'u U W i GEORGE E. LOOMIS AND MYRON M. LOOMIS, OF J ONESVILLE, MICHIGAN.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
IM PROVEMENT IN FEED-STEAMERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 222,358, dated December 9, 1879; application filed September 4, 1879. i
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we,GEoReE R. LooMrs and -MYR0N M. LooMis, of the village of y Jonesville, Hillsdale county, State of Michiit gan, have invented a new and Improved Feed- ,Steamer; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description there- I of, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures marked thereon, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation .of our improved feed, &c., steamer. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, and Fig. 3.is a horizontal section thereof, taken above the fire-box.
The same part in the several figures is denoted by the same letter.
Our invention relates to an improvement in feed-steamers, and is adapted to heating water and generating steam for cooking, wash- 1 ing, scalding, bathing, &c.
A, in the accompanying drawi n gs, marks the lower section or base, supported upon legs, in the usual way, and having the fire-box B.
This box, which is preferably tapered up wardl y at its rear and sides, and extended horizontally, as at b, to the door I), through which the fuel is putinto the box, is provided with an upward conical or pyramidal extension, B
- to conduct the products of combustion up into the combustion-(shamberfof the steamer. The
object of thus directing the products of combustion is to disseminate the same so that I both the upper portion of the water or liquid, ,;as well as the lower portion thereof, will be .1 simultaneously heated, which will more .fully f appear hereinafter. i
0 is the boiler, also, preferably of a conical shape, adapted to be supported on the base A, and having an inner. tapering or conical combustion-chamber, 0, opening into the base A,
having the firebox.
The boiler is fitted on the base A, with the extension B of the firef box extending upfinto its correspondinglyshaped combustion-chamberO, leaving apassteam-chambers.
conduct the steam from the boiler or steamer to the vessel containing the food to be steamed.
or cooked, or to any other desired point for sage or space between said firebox extension B and the combustion-chamber,walls. r The.
object of this is to permit the ascending products of combustion in the fire-box extension B to descend, after heating the upper portion of the liquid or water in the boiler, and heat the lower portion of the liquid or water.
The boiler or section C is provided with a 1 number of heating-flues, D D, extending. en-y" tirely through it from end to end, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3. Fitted upon the boilerlis a smoke-pipe, E. The products of combustion, passing from the hot-air chamber 0, pass up through the flues D, reheating the water or liquid in the boiler, and from thence pass off through the smoke flue or pipe E. The boiler is also provided with the water try-cocks c 0" i and the filling-funnel d.
F is a hose-pipe titted upon the bent tube 0, which latter passes through the base of the a removable smoke-pipe and opens into the The pipe F is designed to washing, scalding, bathing, or other purposes.
The pipe F may be provided with a perforated nozzle or spraying device, as shown, if I desired.
Having thus fully described our invention,
we claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat- The fire-box B, with extension B, boiler O, with fillingfunnel d, flues D and tube e, projected through smoke-pipe E, in combination, substantially as shown and described.
Dated onesville, Michigan, August 1, 187 9.
