1 Claim.
The subject matter of this invention is a window lock of the type having a support fixedly sustained by one window frame and having means adapted to be forced against a companion window frame to prevent slidable displacement of the window frames relative to each other. The dominant object of the invention is realized in the provision of a simplified and functionally and structurally improved window lock including a support having means for slidably guiding a channeled shaped member having sides widely straddling the support which adjustably and threadably sustains a relatively elongated bolt rotatably associated with the sides of the channeled member for rectilinearly displacing the latter relative to the support to cooperate with and frictionally engage a Window frame to prevent shifting thereof relative to its companion Window frame. Other objects, advantages, and features of the invention will be readily understood from the teachings of the following detailed disclosure considered in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of the window lock according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
The window lock generally denoted I0 includes a support or block II, a channeled member or bracket l2, and a threaded bolt 3. v The block embodies laterally extending lugs |4 appropriately perforated to receive screws M for fixedly fastening the block tothe lower slidable window frame I 6 The block is provided with a centrally arranged and longitudinally disposed groove |5 having vertical walls for slidably guiding the rectangularly shaped base l8 of the bracket l2 which includes the upstanding sides I9 and 20 widely straddling the sides of the block.
According to the invention the adjustable bolt I3 is utilized to shift the bracket in pressural relation against the companion slidable window frame 2| to prevent displacement of the latter relative to frame l6. To this end the body of the support is provided with a threadedbore 22 meshing with the threads of the shank 23 of bolt l3.
The shank is rotatably received in the opening or bearing 24 in side 20 of the bracket and is provided with the terminal manipulator or eye 25. The threaded shank has a reduced portion 26 rotatably sustained in the opening or bearing 21 in the hub 28 struck out of the side IQ of the bracket. The reduced portion 26 together with shank 23 define the annular shoulder 29 which constitutes be continuously held in an assembled or retained relation with the block or support previous 10 to mounting the latter on a Window frame. Without this retained relation of the bolt and bracket, the loose connection between shank 23 and hub 28 would allow tiltable separation of the support from the bracket or yoke. 15'
Integral with the reduced portion 29 of the shank is the flange 30. This flange cooperates with hub 28 to shift side H! of the bracket in a direction towards the block when the manipulator is rotated in another direction. 20
Where it is desired to lock or fasten frame 2| against movement in respect to the companion frame l6, manipulator 25 is rotated in one direction. It follows that shank 23 is rectilinearly displaced relative to the fixed support. Since 25 shoulder 29 at this time abuts hub 28, side I!) of the bracket or carriage will be shifted in a direction towards the frame 2| and of course side IQ of this bracket at this time will be shifted away from the support. 30
Where the bolt is rotated to actuate the carriage I2, the latter will be displaced rectilinearly relative to the support by reason of the vertical guide faces of groove 5 cooperating with the sides of base l8. Continued rotation of the bolt 35 in the same direction ultimately causes side l9 to engage the frame 2|. Further rotation in the same direction sets up a frictional and pressural engagement of side |9 against frame 2| and consequently the latter is prevented fro-m being shifted in respect to its companion frame I6.
In case it is desired to release this pressural engagement the bolt is rotated in a counter direction. In this connection flange 30 abuts hub 28 and thus drives side I 9 away from the frame 2| and of course towards the support or block I While the invention has been specifically described in detail, it is to be understood that it is not limited to specific details described but is 50 capable of other adaptations and modifications within the scope of the appended-claim.
I claim:
In a window lock for engaging and disengaging a window frame, a support having a centrally 55 arranged cut out portion disposed at the lower' part thereof, a bracket comprising a base slidably guided by the walls of said out out portion and including a pair of upstanding sides widely 5 straddling the sides of said support, a bolt in part rotatably sustained by said sides and threadably associated with said support and having a shoulder for actuating said bracket for rectilinearly displacing one of said sides towards and against 1 said frame upon rotation of said bolt in one direc-
