Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. MOSES, OF SHAWSVILLE, VIRGINIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD OF HIS RIGHT TO AARON GRAHAM, OF SAME PLACE.
I MPROVEMENT IN PROCESSES OF CLEANING BOLTING-CLOTH.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 221,932, dated November 2?, 1879; application filed October 22, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. Mosns, of Shawsville, in the county of Montgomery and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Process of Cleaning Bolting-Oloth; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled iittlie art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved method or process of cleaning boltingcloth, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and
particularly pointed out in the claim.
It is well known among millers that after short use the-bolting-cloth becomes filled or stnfi'ed with particles of the material sifted through. It has been attempted to remove these particles by brushing the cloth but this has proven ineffectual, first, on account of the gummy and sticky nature of said particles; and, second, on account of the beard or nap formed on the outside of the bolting-cloth, which has prevented the removal of the particles by brushing. The result is that long before worn out the cloths have been thrown aside as worthless and new ones substituted at great expense.
In carrying out my invention, the first step is to remove the beard or nap on the outside of the cloth, and this I accomplish by simply shaving it with a sharp razor. This being done, the particles adhering to the inside of the cloth may be removed by brushing it.
Afterward the cloth is carefully sponged with a dry fine sponge, by which all fine particles that may still remain are removed, thus leaving the cloth as clean and useful as when new.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim and desire to seizure by Letters Patent of the United States The herein-described improved process of cleaning bolting-cloth, which consists in first shaving the nap or beard off the outside of the cloth, next removing the partiolles adhering to the inside by brushing, and, finally, dry-sponging the cloth, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature. in presence of two witnesses.
WM. H. MOSES.
