BY iWP/M ATTORNEY;
Patented Sept. 24, 1940 UNITED "STATES ooMmNED NOISEMA'KER, 'rov AND PLACE 1 I CARD HOLDER David OohmBrobklyn, N. Y.
Application December 8, 1939', Serial No. 308,130
This invention relates to soundvibrating toys commonly called crickets of various shapes and simple construction, the main object being provision-of integral means in such device for holding cards and supporting the cards in substantial upright position the sound reed having double utility, in one instance acting as a base for the the card support, and in the other as a sound reed for the toy. 1
Another object is the provision of an ornamental card holder of 2 simple main parts the body member being shaped to simulate a fruit, insect, bird, or animal to lend decoration to a dining table as a place card holder.
15 These and other objects will be apparent from the following description and attached drawing forming part hereof.'
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my device shown resting on its base holding a card at its upper end.
' Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. i I
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view of my device showing another integral fastening means.
Fig. 4 is a rear view of my device showing means integral of the under flanges and also means integral of the base for fastening the device to a garment to display a card in upright position. 7 Fig. 5 is a plan view of an embodiment showing card holding means formed on an upper integral extension.
Fig. 6 is asection taken on line' 6--6Fig. 5, showing means integral of the upper body portion for pinning the device to a garment.
Fig. 7 is an embodiment showing the devicein the form of a flower or the like having means on an extension for card holding and means for pinning the device to a garment for use as a price tag.
Referring to the drawing, l represents a stamping of sheet metal in a suitable shape for.
example as a beetle having at its upper end a substantial transverse upward bowed slot l I, having vertically spaced apart edges l2, l3, which converge toward the respective ends I4, l thereof, the lower edges I 3 of said slot defining an upwardly directed gripping tongue I6, adapted to engage a card l1, inserted in said slot and laterally flex the same so as to frictionally bind it against the upper edge 12 of the slot.
The lower end l8 of the stamping which is preferably bent at an angle with the upper portion, has 3 bentunder flange edges l8l, I82 and I83 which flanges form means to clampingly 12 Claims. (01. 46-175)" hold flat spring metal strip base member IS. on I which the'd'evice may beat rest to so support suitable card in the device without overturning. Said strip has the usual central depressedportion I95 adapted on vibrationthereof to facilitate noisemaking. Anysuitable indicia may be on the card such for example as the name of a person so that the card and device may cooperatively be a displayed place card and holder for use on a dinner table. The body of the device maybe shaped to simulate'insects, birds, fruit, flowers, gems orarticles, etc., and may be orna-= mentally painted under the lithographingprocess prior to shaping. When the .card has been removed from the slot the device may then be used as a noisemakeror cricket, the spring base acting as a reed for vibration when actuated by a persons thumb the device being held in the hand as is well known in the art.
Other card holding'means may be used such as the tongues 16 of Figs. 2 'and'7.
In Fig. 4 are. shown integral means l9l, I84 for fastening the device to a garment or the like, said means being respectively formed either on the spring base or on extension of flange I 8] In this embodiment the device. may function as a combined price tag and noisemakerl Cardholding means l6 may be formed on an exten- Parts may be used without others. The dis- I closure is intended to be illustrative rather than limitative.
