IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-BAND SHAPE RS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 221,3241, dated November 4, 1879; application filed May 27, 1879.
- an improved shaping-block for the neck-bands of bosom-shirts, which block is used in connection with the bosom'boards, and readily adjusted for each size of neck-band, so as to facilitate the ironing of bosom-shirts and impart to the neckbands at the same time their proper shape andpositipn.
The invention consists of a T-shaped endpiece that is permanently secured to the narrow end of the bosom-board, and on which the V-shaped adjustable main block is guided and tightly clamped, in connection with auxiliary extension-pieces of different thickness,
attached by guide-pins and sockets to the cross-piece of the T-piece, for adapting the block to any size of neck-band.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a T-shaped end-piece of my improved shapingblock for neck-bands, the cross-piece of which is permanently attached by screws to the narrow end of the bosom board, as shown in Fig: ll
The slotted dovetailed center-piece extends at right angles from the cross-piece in the direction of the center-line. of the bosom-board, and serves to guide a correspondingly recessed V-shaped main block 13, which is furthermore guided by steadying-pins a, one at each side of the center-piece, the pins enterin g socket-holes a of the main block 13.
The sides of the main block are convexly curved, so as to correspond to the curvature of the neck-band.
The main block may be adjusted on the centerpiece and steadying-pins to a distance of half an inch or more from the cross-piece,
serving for shaping neck-bands of fourteen inches when moved up close to the cross-piece, and neck-bands of fourteen and onehalf inches when set at a distance from the crosspiece.
A screw-bolt and thumb-nut, b I), serve to clamp the main block rigidly to the center piece, so that the same is retained at the proper distance from the cross-piece.
Auxiliary extension-pieces O and U serve for enlarging the shaping-block, the narrower piece 0 being half an inch, the wider one inch, in width. They areiconnected to the cross piece by fixed pins 01, which are inserted into socketholes of the cross-piece.
The ends of the extension-pieces O and G are inclined or slightly curved, so as to form extensions of the sides of the cross-piece and main block.
The extension-pieces serve, in connection with the adjustment of the main block, for setting the shaping device for neck-hands of fifteen and fifteen and one-half inches and sixteen and sixteen and one-half inches, respectively.
The shapingdevice is used as follows: The shirt is placed in position on the bosom-hoard with the neck-hand around the shaping-block. The latter is adjusted to the size of the neckband, according to the number marked thereon. The smoothing-iron is then passed over the bosom and along the shapingblock, by which operation the neck-band is ironed at the same time, and thus the proper shape and finish are imparted thereto withoutthe trouble and loss of time at present experienced by the ironin g of the neck-bands.
By thus imparting to the neckband its proper shape, it fits better on the neck and dispenses with the puckerin g or other annoyin g irregularities of the same.
Having thus described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination of a fixed T-shaped end-piece, A, of the ironing-board with an adjustable \l-shaped main block, B, and with interchangeable extension-pieces G O of different widths, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of a fixed T-shaped end-piece, A having steadying-pins a a, of a my invention 1 have signed my name in presrecessed V-shaped main block, B, guided and once of two witnesses, this 26th day of May, ehunped at one side of the T-piece with in- 1879.
tercha-ngeable extension-pieces O C, of differ- FRIEDRICH L. VOLK. ent widths, at the other side of the T-piece, Vitnesses: substantially as specified. PAUL GoEPEL,
In testimony that- I claim the foregoing as CARL KARI.
